“Huh?” says Jabber, scrolling through their interactions in his head. A lightbulb comes on. “Oh, wait, you think-” He starts laughing. “You think you hit me a lil’ too hard, so now I’m out for payback?”
Zanka blinks. He’s putting on a very brave face, but underneath it… “Is there somethin’ else I coulda done to piss you off like this?”
Jabber Wonger, twenty-late-year-old masochist galore, has himself an arrangement that satisfies his interests in all ways but one. Summary
Zanka knew that carrying out a relationship with a Raider as a Cleaner would be complicated. He knew he'd have to be careful. More than careful. He'd have to be perfect- no matter what, no one could find out about the truth. Not when he knew what the consequences would be.
Naturally, he slips up anyways, accidentally mentioning Jabber's name at HQ, and it’s all over.
Except its not. Because there's good news and bad news.
The good news was that Zanka hadn't actually said Jabber's name. Instead, he'd said a nickname. A nickname that nobody knew referred to Jabber.
The bad news was that now all the Cleaners thought that Zanka had a girlfriend named Abby, and if he wanted to keep his job, his family, and his relationship with Jabber, he was going to have to keep up the charade.
What could go wrong?

Follo liked to pretend he didn't know what the shifty eyes and arched brows were referring to. Pretended they didn't always get shot his way after interactions with a certain blue-eyed boy who seemed to orbit him as of late. Feigned ignorance as to why she could possibly be scrutinizing him. Follo had nothing to hide. He’d never done anything wrong or worthy of suspicion in his life.
Rule one of the Cleaners: never admit anything personal to Riyou, no matter how many scathing looks she sent your way. He's watched far too many innocent souls fall victim to her trap countless times. That girl was like an encyclopedia of embarrassing anecdotes, which she would gladly whip out at the most inconvenient of times. To humble you, to admonish you, to blackmail you into doing her chores. The moment you confessed some vital piece of information to her, she’d store it away to weaponize later.

Follo has been slowly realizing his minor interest in Zanka might just be a crush, and he might actually have a chance at it being reciprocated. What to do about it? Attempt to take him on a not-quite date—preferably without alerting the suspicions of the gossip-spreading monsters in the Cleaners.

Summary
Zanka occasionally wondered why he was the one who had to crash into Jabber, because Jabber was a bed of tidal pools stranding venomous creatures and jagged shells, flaying the soles of anyone staggering through him. It could have been anyone. The thought settled between his teeth, and he gritted them together wishing that he could bite down on a truth with enough force to shatter it in his molars.
In which Zanka volunteers for an extremely unpopular assignment in the East Ward for the seventh time straight, and gets caught in the rain.

Briefly, a look rushed over Dazai Osamu’s face— an emotion so quick, Chuuya couldn’t put a name to it. Then, his face mellowed out into a smile that had Chuuya itching for a fight; that screamed I think I’m the smartest person in the room, with just enough smugness and condescension to really rile him up.
“No,” Dazai said and looked weirdly vulnerable, like he was admitting some big secret. “No, you don’t.”
Or: the fight against the DOA ends badly for everyone involved. Now, the only person capable of ending everything before it even happens, would rather be dead and buried alongside his friends than deal with time travel of all things. Worse, when whatever adverse reaction No Longer Human had to the book has burned Dazai off the timeline as a whole.

My vision is like El Dorado and this fic is like the only, single sign to the road of it that I have found in all of this world!
Seriously, I hope to find more fics like this. I don't think it's unreasonable to say I'm a fyizai shipper who went crazy after they found out about fyodor's ACTUAL past and had zero qualms to actually try to find canon-compliant young!fyozai- well, young!Dazai now- Fyozai content.
Hate that there's literally NO other fic of them being like this- still both geniuses. Still cunning. Still irrevocably mentally tangled with eachother. Just the very minor difference of Dazai being a, well. A minor.
It's just SO filled with potential and I'm side eyeing ao3 like I'm waiting for people of certain other ships and fandoms to come and save this one. Lmao
