Summary

Miraculously, she manages not to slam her entire body into the dirt and actually lands on her feet, sliding a little at the force of the blow. Then, with all her effort, Pearl takes her axe in both hands and brings it in a massive swing downwards, cleaving the mass in half. The hospitable older woman who runs the bijou restaurant appears before their table wearing a sunny smile. Before he gets the chance to even twitch, Jaeyoung materializes a few bills out of thin air and hands them to her with a grin that is too smug to be friendly. She receives the payment with a warm “thank you, please come again,” collects their already neatly stacked dishes, and rushes off because, despite its small size and its harder-to-find location, the restaurant is busy tonight.
“Oops,” Jaeyoung says in that cheeky way that suggests he feels more smug than sorry, “too late.” (ch. 13)
