It’s less cohesive than the innards of a pig. That’s the problem with memory bound by emotion. Love is diffuse. The memories of the Melting wouldn’t leave her, and neither did the grief. Glinda tried everything she could to fall asleep: switching rooms, rubbing lavender lotion on her hands, even drinking a foul tasting concoction that one of her handmaidens swore would put her to sleep as soon as her head hit the pillow (it didn’t). And even when she did manage to fall asleep sometime just before dawn, Elphaba’s screams jarred her awake.
So one night Glinda found herself sitting at the desk in her study with a blank sheet of paper in front of her. Dear Elphaba, she wrote, and then watched the words waver at the top of the page. She crossed them out and started over. Dearest Elphaba . It was ridiculous. Elphaba would never read her words again. But she found that they came anyway, faster than she could commit them to paper.
Or: Glinda begins writing letters to Elphaba in the aftermath of the Melting. When she pushes herself beyond the point of exhaustion four years later, Chistery decides to take matters into his own hands and deliver the letters to Elphaba in an attempt to save Glinda's life.

“Everything’s going to be fine. I love you.” And the words shatter something inside. Elphaba gives her a small smile, but it's edged with sadness. She presses her lips together to hold back her grief. It’s a wild and angry thing that rattles the bars of the cage she has around it.
Elphaba leans back, arms moving to swing the doors shut and Glinda panics. She unfreezes and lets impulse take over.
Her right arm stays curled around the Grimmerie, holding it close. Tight enough to bruise. Her left hand reaches out to Elphaba’s collar, tugs hard on the black material, and surges forward.
AKA
Couldn’t help but think that they should’ve kissed during their last scene together, so I wrote it. Featuring an eventual happy ending but with some devastation first.

Summary
Elphaba Thropp, was gone- dead. She was no longer.
Glinda never did heed her warnings, for wishing only does wound the heart. This ache of reality carved its path into her, pulling and prying at her softest parts, that soft underbelly of love that she couldn’t put out. Torn apart by grief, mutilated by self hatred and isolation.
Or
Glinda upland had lived months in the aftermath of Elphabas death. No longer can she take it. So she does the only thing she can think to do, join her in death.

Glinda The Good is ill, they were saying. Deathly ill. Agonizing as we speak, even. She might already be dead, for all we know.
And, though exagerated in many ways, there was some truth to the words. Glinda's illnes had started long ago, too long to pinpoint an exact moment. The very day she was born, perhaps. But the particular trigger, the foundation of said rumors, had originated a little under four years ago. The day half of Glinda's heart died.
(Gossip, as it turns out, is an extremely useful thing. It can cause riot and peace, reveal truths and break promises. It can even bring people back from the dead. Isn't that wonderful?)
Or: After years of performance and solitude, Glinda finally breaks. Rumors about Glinda The Good's wellbeing bring Elphaba back home.

She tried not to ever say anything too sappy to Elphaba, who never knew how to accept such things gracefully, but she couldn’t help it. “I miss you,” Glinda admitted softly. Again, the line went silent for a beat too long. Glinda opened her mouth to soften the admission, but before she could, Elphaba’s quiet voice filled her ear.
“I miss you, too.”
After graduation, Elphaba and Glinda find themselves in separate cities and therefore apart for the first time in years. They keep in contact through letters, phone calls, and occasional visits. When Elphaba won’t stop being elusive about how she’s faring after being cut off financially, Glinda worries a completely appropriate amount. (She tries to offer a completely appropriate amount of help, too.)
