Chapter 31: Roast

Chapter Text

Finally the roast was ready

Finally the roast was ready. Michael and Katherine helped Iris plate up the food for everyone as Tito and Jermaine set the table. Marlon and Randy agreed to wash the pans and plates up and Rebbie Latoya and Janet would clean the dinning room after. It gave Iris a feeling of happiness. That everyone pulled together to help like a normal family should.

The dining room was warm and cozy, it had the original wooden paneling still on display. The room was warmed with the fireplace, its moldings reminding her of Hogwarts. Jackie set the fire's up earlier that evening as it started to cool. He did the one in here and the one in the family room. There were  a couple large paintings scattered around the room, Iris wanted to have a closer look at them later. The chandelier was breath taking, made to look like they used candles, and hovered over the large gorgeous table. There were huge floor to celling windows opposite the table, with plush green velvet curtains. This was a great place for a family dinner. It felt grand but not in a way that made you uncomfortable.

They carried their plates to the table and Katherine gave grace. Which Iris truly thought only happened in movies and had to bite her lip when they did it the first time they ate together.

Iris glanced around nervously as everyone tried her food. They all seemed to enjoy it, so she tucked into her. She could honestly have a roast every day of the week. It was one of the superior dinners. "This is wonderful," Rebbie said, "Thanks Iris."

"You are welcome," Iris said as everyone chimed in their agreements.

"What's this?" Tito asked holding up a yorkie.

"Only the best food known to mankind," Iris replied deadpan, "It's a yorkie pud."

"Like Pudding?" Jackie asked taking a bite of his.

"No," Iris laughed. Watching Tito and Jackie grab more Yorkshires off the plate she had in the middle. She had four on her own plate.

"You are a wonderful cook my dear," Katherine complimented.

"Thank you," Iris replied. "My Godfather wasn't in my life for long but he loved food so he taught me some absolutely crazy recipes. Whenever i cook i feel closer to him and moony and my mum."

"What's a moony?" Janet asked.

Iris snorted with a grin. "It's a nickname. My dad and his friends had nicknames. My uncle Remus was moony, My godfather was Padfoot, My dad was Prongs. When i was little i was Prongslet and then when i got older i was Firewing."

"Firewing? Why Firewing? Those are really interesting nicknames," Jermaine said.

"Family secret," Iris grinned with a laugh. Jermaine groaned, he wanted a cool nickname like that.

"So Firewing, what do you like to do? We really don't know much about you," Latoya said.

"What would you like to know?" Iris replied. The family all looked ready with questions. " I like to read, i like to travel, I love learning new languages."

"Are you fluent in any other languages then?" Jackie asked.

Iris smiled, Michael thought about her snake speech ability and wondered about other magical languages. "Yes, My godfather Siri taught me French when i got to spend a summer with him. He got me to love languages. And he said it's always good to flirt in other languages," Iris snorted. "I am fluent in French, Spanish and Greek. I am almost fluent in Latin and German."

"That is so cool! How do you say you are an idiot in French?" Janet asked that had the family laughing.

"Tu es un imbécile" Iris replied.

Janet dramatically turned to her left, which was Latoya, and said "Tu es un imbécile." Which had the whole family laughing.

"You are a very smart girl," Katherine complimented her. Her boy had picked a wonderful girl. She had worried, Iris was rather improper and was non religious, but she was kind and smart and beautiful. Michael looked at her like she hung the sun herself. He orbited her like she was his earth and he was the moon. "Did you like school?"

"Thank you. And i had a very turbulent school experience. I had a couple teachers who should never be allowed around kids," She said holding up her hand with the scar Umbridge left her.

"A teacher did that?" Jermaine asked horrified.

"Well, she made me do it to myself. My school wasn't very well governed and the people that should have protected me and others didn't. I loved school, i loved being away from my relatives and i loved learning. But my schooling was so shocking a lot of what i got to learn was after i left. My friend Hermione and I bonded over studying outside of school." Michael took her hand and rubbed along her scars gently. She had shown him all her scars and he had kissed them all. He made her scars feel beautiful. He made her comfortable sharing them now and no longer covering them up.

"I am sorry that happened to you," Rebbie said as the table became a loud wave of noise all displaying their anger and shock for what she had gone through. Iris gave the family a smile. "Do you like sport?" She asked to hopefully bring down the atomosphere.

"I like formula one," Iris said, realizing that since she was in 1984 she could go see a race with Ayrton Senna, with Michael fucking Schumacher! "But other than that i haven't really cared about sport. My cousin really likes football and my best mate loves a bit of darts."

"I have heard of formula one that's a racing sport isn't it?" Randy said.

"Yeah it's sick." Iris replied.

"Do you play any instruments?" Katherine asked.

"I play Violin and Piano, i also did Ballet. My relatives didn't like me but my aunt always wanted a girl. So she had me doing all she wanted a daughter to do. Mondays was violin, Tuesdays Piano. Then every other day of the week was ballet. I continued it as much as i could once i went off to boarding school."

Michaels head snapped to hers, he had no idea she had any kind of musical background or dance and he wanted to drag her away right now and demand she show him. "I will play for you later," She whispered to him with a grin. He quickly placed a sweet kiss to her lips. His brothers and sisters made a huge show hating the PDA but secretly they loved seeing their brother so happy and carefree. Jackie hadn't known Iris long but he could see why Michael adored her.

"Do you still do Ballet?" Tito asked.

"When i can, i wouldn't say i can go be a prima ballerina but i always practiced in abounded classrooms at school and would take ballet lessons during the summer holidays. Moony and Padfoot cried the first time i danced for them," She replied. She didn't tell them that when she messed up during practices she would be beaten by her uncle and left to starve under the cupboard under the stairs. She tried not to think about that. She loved the music and she loved dance and she wouldn't let her horrid family ruin that for her.

"Do you have any tattoos?" Janet asked.

"No, but i do plan on getting some. I just don't know when i will," She replied.

"Who was your first kiss?" Latoya asked with a cheeky grin thrown at her brother.

Iris snorted thinking about it, "My first kiss was with a boy called Cedric. We dated for like a week when he broke up with me as we were competing in the same tournament at school."

"That's a silly reason to break up," Tito said.

"Yeah but my school was very competitive and i wasn't originally supposed to be in the tournament." She said. She had complex feelings about Cedric and didn't want to speak ill of the dead, or other world dead.

"Who was your first serious relationship?" Randy asked. He looked at Michael who was hanging on Iris' every word and released they hadn't had this conversation yet.

"I don't know if i have been in a serious relationship. I have dated Cedric, a boy called Blaise, a girl called Daphne-"

"Oh you like women too?" Marlon said. He would say his siblings and he were all quite open as they grew up watching drag queens and queer people perform. He knew his father would hate it, and his mother wasn't a fan but he didn't personally care.

"Yeah I'm Pansexual. I am attracted to people not their gender." She said she worried they wouldn't like it but they all just nodded along to her explanation. "I would say that Daphne was my most serious relationship and we parted on good terms. And then i was with Oliver wood but that ended very quickly."

Michael calmed himself. He felt jealous. She had much more experience in relationships then he, but then he remembered they were soulmates. They were married and they were having a baby. He had locked her down. She loved him, he knew that on a level that couldn't be argued. He woke up every morning and thanked God for sending him this angel.

"Do you have any secret talents?" Marlon asked.

"Not really, but i am double jointed." Iris said bending the tops of her fingers. She always felt it looked very scarlet witch. The table all gasped and gagged in jest. She laughed happily.

Michael looked at his wife in total awe, bless beyond anything to be with her.
