All Alphas have superhumanly keen eyesight, but he had to admit that he didn't see this coming.
When Bond's target managed to escape him and flees back to London, the only way for Bond to get close is to go to a party frequented by the posh and wealthy - a 'plus one' type of event where your 'plus one' has to be an Omega, preferably of the fatuous variety. Bond despairs, because there's no way he can find one of those on short notice that he also trusts to watch his back as he walks into the metaphorical lions' den.
But then Tanner raises his hand.
Because Tanner knows a guy, and he's closer to home than expected...

“Yes I thought that was fairly obvious.” Bond dead paned.
“Oh my god” Q stood up, hands flailing upwards exasperatedly “And you couldn't just be normal people and ask me out? You had to corner me in my office and make me think you were going to leap and eat me alive at any moment?!”

James Bond and Alec Trevelyan run the gang north of the Thames. M runs criminal element south of the river. Someone has been attacking both gangs and trying to start a war between Bond and M. One night, at Bond's club, 'The Layer Cake' a present arrives for James and Alec from M. The present is a skinny pale dark haired computer genius with the face of an angel. Now what are they going to do with that?
