The next thing that happens, though, Natsu catches wind of before his friends do. A man who looks to be in his forties—standing out because he’s dressed a lot more humbly than the rest of his counterparts—glances at Lucy as she appears in his periphery and then his eyes go wide and delighted. He takes her by the shoulders before she can pass him by, and Natsu is ready to charge straight at him, the rest of the guests be damned—before he registers that he has a large, friendly smile on his face and he immediately removes his hands from Lucy once he has her attention and greets her. His voice is loud enough to garner the attention of the rest of the partygoers and they all go quiet, listening in.
“Layla? It is you, isn’t it? My god, you haven’t aged a day!”
Lucy’s entire body goes rigid.
Natsu immediately wants to burn this entire godforsaken place to the ground.

Natsu rushed forward. “Wendy!!” he yelled while he kneeled down onto the floor, Lucy still in his arms. Wendy quickly rushed forward and gasped when she saw Lucy. “Gods, what happened?!” she said while collapsing on the floor in front of them.

Summary
Hi, do you remember those like "Lisanna replaces Lucy in Team Natsu, and now abandoned Lucy has to get revenge" fanfics? Because holy shit, so do I! Those were a massive part of my childhood. I've grown up, and I wanted to write a love letter to that genre of fics, but with no Lisanna bashing, just two girls who are compared to each other. No guild bashing either, just misunderstandings and the weight of perceived expectations.
Or: Before, when Lisanna was still dead, Lucy didn't mind people saying they were similar. In fact, she took it as a compliment that they saw a bit of their dead loved one in Lucy. Now that Lisanna is back, however, it's different.

Hop hadn’t been around long, but he knew a few things.
Pokemon weren’t to be messed with. Humans weren’t to be messed with. Feelings weren’t to be messed with. As long as he tried to stay out of these things, he should be good.
But when he wakes up after an accident to find that he had already started meddling in feelings long ago, Hop struggles to adapt from a world that he saw through rose-tinted lenses to one that is now bright red.

He groaned. His left eye really hurt and his arms were sore and something really hard and cold was on his lap-
He paused. That last one didn’t seem quite right. Gaining the courage to angle his head upwards, when Hop’s vision finally cleared he saw a Yamask firmly stationed on his lap- and fast asleep by the sound of it. It lay clutching its mask like a kid would cradle a toy. It wasn’t a Galarian Yamask either- it was a normal one, gold and all.
Now, Hop really likes pokemon. Like, a LOT. And he had no issue with pokemon who’s looks or types were less than conventional. However, his knowledge about pokemon told him that a ghost pokemon sleeping near him didn’t mean good things.

As long as Hop could remember, he had always been in his brother’s shadow. His amazing, talented, powerful shadow. Not that he minded. His brother was amazing, he deserved all of the attention and love he got, especially from his family.
Hop loves him too, more than anybody else in the world. Heck his brother is his world! His hero, his protector... Out of everyone he’s always been there for him. Even if he didn’t do anything to deserve it yet, but he would. Just like how Leon earned his way to the top of Galar. That was why Hop had to be the very best, he had to become Champion
If he didn’t then Hop would just be left behind. His brother would go to new trainers who showed potential and they would be the one’s he’d rather be around. They would be worthy of him, they deserved him more as any sort of relative than Hop ever could…
Hop wouldn't even be a thought, he’d be nothing to him, he’d fade away…
Hop always knew that was a possibility he just never thought it could happen quite so literally to him
(AKA: Hop and Gloria’s trip to rescue the little Woloo takes a different turn and he becomes cursed into fading away... literally)
