Little could the assembled press pack have known, however, of how we were about to be treated to the biggest sporting scoop of the last decade, if not century.
“I need to step back from tennis for a bit.” Alcaraz declared without fanfare.

Summary
Rose volunteers for a nonprofit that rescues sex-trafficked omegas, and Shane thinks it's a great cause. He even attends their fundraising galas.
Then, one night, Rose calls to ask for a favor: She wants Shane to let a recently-rescued male omega live with him. In his apartment.
His name is Ilya, Rose explains, and the thing is, despite omega hormone levels, he acts and smells just like an alpha. He can't keep staying in an omega group home because he's scaring the other omegas and endangering the staff.
But he could live with Shane, Rose insists. "You're a big strong alpha hockey player, so he can't intimidate you physically. But also he needs to feel safe, which he can with you, because you're not like other alphas." She pauses. "You know?"
By which she means Shane has never had a full rut, his scent glands barely work, he can't form a knot, and he has no interest in sticking his dick in anyone. Which, whatever. It's fine.
But if being a failure as an alpha means he can help this omega, Ilya, who's apparently as much of a biological anomaly as Shane is…
Shane says yes.
And maybe it's a stupid decision. But he knows that it's also the right one.

The brain cared about the one who proved, through the fire of biological imperative, that they would not hurt you, would not use you, would not abandon you to the wolves.
Or: after years of avoiding heats, his suppressants fail and Shane falls into early heat in the middle of hockey camp. Ilya finds him and takes care of him, while being terrified.

Summary
People have been telling the story of Sepang 2015 much too often. Valentino Rossi vs Marc Marquez - the riders only a tool for the narrative, two dimensional, an extension for history making and story telling.
In the static notion of lifting Valentino to the status of a God, Marc is the tortured martyr who becomes larger than life. It does not sit right when Marc makes a mistake, because it never is, always is intentional. And it sits very uncomfortably not right when Marc crashes into Bez when he’s chasing his first podium this season. And it sits absolutely not right when Marc's cool mask breaks and Bez is being confronted with someone who's never recovered from the grief of losing a friendship.
