The NHL, like most professional sports leagues, didn’t allow unmated omegas to play. Most omegan pro players had been call-ups from the AHL, where they’d been scouted out of college after mating. Even then, their careers were short, and they made less than one percent of the roster over the NHL’s nearly century long history.
There was no precedent for players like him. A prodigy that had caused waves when he’d been bumped up to Bantam Hockey at eleven years old. Analysts had been talking about the potential of his eligibility for the 2009 draft class when Shane had made Tier 1 in the off-season. He was only weeks away from pre-season training with his new team.

The second Shane entered he felt eyes on him, and very quickly heard him say, “Who are you?”
“I’ve been sent to kill you.” Shane said. Rozanov immediately moved, grabbing a knife from under his pillow and launching himself at Shane, Shane grabbed his wrist and stuck his gun into Rozanov’s side, “But I do not want to, so maybe drop your knife, sit down and we can talk.”
Shane watched in the dark as Rozanov considered, before dropping the knife onto the floor and moving back to sit on his bed after Shane let go of his wrist. “You are good, not anyone could have gotten in here, and you stopped me very easily.” Rozanov moved and slowly leaned back to turn on a lamp, when he turned to look at Shane his face fell.
“You know who I am?” Shane asked.
“Yes, the few pictures we have of your face are burned in our minds, you are The Hitman, everyone knows who you are.”
