The sounds of footsteps retreat, blissfully followed by the creak of the door swinging shut behind the three. Dick breathes shakily, screws open his eyes to find a figure kneeling by him. His chest seizes, then loosens up as he registers the boy’s mask, the silk blue cape draped over his shoulders and curling onto the now blood-speckled bathroom floor.
Your cape’s getting dirty , Dick wants to say, only for his teeth to grind back on a groan as the masked boy lifts him into a sitting position.
“Sorry," Bluejay murmurs. "I know it hurts."
