Summary
He bent down and began soaking up the tea, gathering the pieces of the shattered mug into a little pile as he went.
When he soaked up all the liquid, he tossed the towel into the sink and dropped down beside the pile.
He could fix this. He could.
He sifted through the jagged edges until he found two that looked like they went together, the edges and colors matching. But when he held them together, they didn’t fit quite right. It was as if pieces even smaller had broken off so they couldn’t go together again, and Kevin sifted through the pile for them, but they were so minuscule he couldn’t tell which they were or if they were even in the pile at all.
His eyes heated, and his throat felt tight as he set the pieces down and picked up two others, trying to make them fit again. But it was the same problem, over and over and over, until tears were rolling down his cheeks.
It was stupid to cry over a broken cup, but –
He grabbed a piece, turning it over in his hand, a little Ferris wheel car visible.
It was the first trip he and Jean had ever taken together outside of games.

Or, Kevin does something that triggers Jean and spirals into self-loathing.

Summary
His feet were moving before his brain had fully processed everything, and he was throwing himself down beside the backliner. There was nothing that could knock Jean down hard enough that he would not get back up again. He would only stay down if he couldn’t get back up.
Jean was pale, his pained breaths shallow.
“Show me what hurts,” Jeremy spoke as calmly as he could, but something wasn’t right. An eerie feeling hummed across his skin. He threw off his gloves and his helmet.
“I can’t, I can’t,” Jean was gasping over and over. His eyes were wide beneath the bars of his mask, gaze flickering back and forth up and down in a frantic pattern.
“What? You can’t what?” Jeremy’s hands hovered just above him, looking for the wound, the blood to staunch, something, anything he could do to help. He thought about stripping Jean of his gear, but thought better of it, not knowing where or what the injury was. A slow stream of blood poured from his nose. What was wrong? Why wouldn’t Jean just show him what was wrong? “What hurts?”
Jean’s eyes locked with Jeremy’s, grey and wide and terrified.
“I can’t feel anything.” It sounded like he was choking.

Summary
“You are scaring me, Jeremy.”
There was a scuffle and shuffling, Jean’s voice further away saying something to someone, telling them to do something, breaths more ragged now. “Jeremy, what’s going on?”
“I’m sorry,” Jeremy said again. “I’m sorry, I tried, Jean. I really did. But I’m so tired of trying. I just need it to stop.”
“Oh, oh mon–” Jean swore in French. “You did not. Jeremy, you did not.”
“I’m sorry,” Jeremy whispered. He leaned over so he was lying on the ground now, curling up on his side so the phone was wedged between his ear and the ground. His head felt light, his body numb.
“No,” Jean sobbed. There was a horn somewhere. “No, you did not, Jeremy. Why?”
“I’m so tired,” Jeremy mumbled, his eyes slipping shut. It was all going fuzzy around the edges now. His chest did not feel so tight anymore. “I just wanted to hear your voice one more time.”
“Non, non, keep talking to me, okay? Keep talking, stay awake.”
“Too tired,” Jeremy slurred, his eyes remaining closed.
“You are okay, you are going to be okay.” Distant shouting, another horn.

Summary
Jeremy straightens from the counter to find Jean only feet away from him, staring at him with wide eyes, lips parted. There’s a grocery bag at his feet and what seems to be takeout containers that have split open.
He swipes at his nose with the back of his hand, moving to shield the counter with his body, his back to the drugs so that he’s facing Jean, but it’s too late. Jean has already seen it all.
He stalks towards Jeremy, not even looking at him as he grabs him by the shoulders, forcing Jeremy out of the way.
“Jean, I –”
Jean leans over to inspect the contents of the counter, running his finger through the line Jeremy still had left and rubbing his fingers together. Picking up the bag of little white pills and inspecting the contents. He drops it back onto the counter before slowly turning to Jeremy.
There is no shock in that steely gray gaze anymore, only anger. And maybe hurt.
“What is this, Jeremy?” Jean’s voice is low and rough.

Summary
They arrived before the sun had even begun to crest the surface, and took up their duties of untying the board and finding a spot to lay out the towel. Jeremy took a bit longer, paddling around and looking down at the water. He had told Jean on the way there that new beaches were hard because you had to learn where the rocky or really shallow parts were to avoid hitting them.
Jeremy rode wave after wave, and Jean watched with a warm feeling in his chest. The beach remained quiet even after the sun had risen, Jean and Jeremy the only souls within sight.
Jean dug around in their bag for the water bottle, pulling it out and taking a long drink from it, before sticking it back in the bag to keep it shaded from the sun.
He looked back out at the water and –
And where was Jeremy? It should’t have been hard to spot the blonde, he was the only one out on the water within this cove, and yet…
~~~~~~
Or Jean and Jeremy go to the beach so Jeremy can go surfing. It results in Jean having to face his fear of the water to save his sunshine captain...
Taking over the West Coast’s garage band scene, they’ve sold out shows and are working on yet another album release! Come back later for an in-depth interview with lead singer and guitarist, Jeremy Knox, for an exclusive look at their musical process—”
Jean turns the TV off with a scowl. When Kevin had suggested a band with an opening for a bassist, Jean didn’t expect it to be them; he’d rather die than sing of sunshine and rainbows.
i'll be killed regardless for trying to sing at all.
After Evermore’s decline, lead bassist Jean Moreau struggles to decide where to go next.
Trojan Horse happens to have just the opening, even if they’re everything Jean was programmed to stand against.
Summary
Andrew can't stop replaying the memory, pushing on it like a bruise. He wants the sick sort of pain that proves that actually, he can still feel things. It's fresh — barely a few hours old.
If he closes his eyes, Andrew can put himself back there. Back under the glare of the fluorescent lights humming above them in the locker room, the roar of the crowd getting fainter as the stadium empties. His own heart thumping too fast as the adrenaline of the game bleeds out, leaving only exhaustion behind.
Neil's lips, chapped and cherry-red, making sounds too soft for the harsh moment.
"We can't keep doing this," Neil had said. He wasn't able to look Andrew in the eye. "I just… we don't want the same things."
Summary
What happens when 'happily ever after' has its own ending?
Jean Moreau had never truly believed in those words. 'Forever' was as much a fantasy as his fourth year at USC had been. It was as much a fantasy as Jeremy himself was. Dreams ended. The sun set. Nothing good lasted, so of course they didn't either. It was best not to hope.
Jeremy Knox did believe in those words, even after so long of having to live one day after another that tried to prove him wrong. Dreams could be made real. The sun always rose. They'd had such a good life and hard times never lasted forever. Hope was the best thing to hold close.
Three years after the End, Jean and Jeremy find themselves on the same professional exy team in Chicago. As past, present, and future collide, they have to confront old wounds and long silences to make the most dangerous decision of their lives: What is worth a second chance?
Summary
“Music is the only thing in my life that has never let me down. The only thing that has been consistently there for me.”
It’s 1975, and The Kings’ Men are one of the biggest bands on the planet - a juggernaut of hit rock songs, in the midst of a marathon North American tour, and more money and groupies than sense. But lead guitarist Kevin Day has severely injured his hand in a skiing accident, and Jeremy Knox has received the call up to replace him for the remaining tour leg. For an artist who has been trying to make it solo, it’s a dream come true.
Bassist Jean Moreau is angry, and withdrawn, but he and Jeremy click quickly, and as the tension between them grows, a different kind of tension is also brewing within The Kings’ Men. And when the curtain calls time, will they all go home alive?
