Damon's been gone for god knows how long, so if he spends his first night back home with Elena in his arms, counting her eyelashes, or something similarly embarrassing, it's nobody's business but his own. Enter his brother creepily stalking through the halls, worrying about Damon loud enough to wake the dead.
Placed in time rather ambiguously to hide its possibly non canon-compliantness. Damon comes back from the dead and/or kidnapping, deathly danger, or similar in nature, then his girl invites his brother to cuddle with them. Turns out he doesn't actually mind.

It's like nothing's changed, they are back on the road, and Sam and Dean are arguing in the front like an old married couple, driving him crazy. Everything is just as it was before Sam left them to go to Stanford four years ago, except for how now he's grieving, ready to blow up any second, and - predictably - Dean indulges him. Oh, and Dad's missing. The fact that people can't tell which twin is which is the least of his problems, really. He also just really really hates Wendigos.

When he first hears about Harry, it's not like in a movie at all. Time doesn't slow down, there's no glass shattering to pieces on the floor. It's fast and almost incomprehensible, the only thing he knows is that he's more scared and confused than he's ever been in his whole life.
