Summary
“You are planning to rob me or what?” He hears Rozanov call, and he can’t help but smile slightly even as he rolls his eyes, closing the door to the linen closet and feeling strangely lighter than when he opened it, reassured that he’s just trying to read into a blank page, that today doesn’t mean anything more than Rozanov doesn’t mind him being around, which is strangely flattering.
“I don’t know,” he calls back. “Don’t Russians like diamonds and fur and stuff? Where should I start looking if I want to know what my options are?”
He hears Rozanov laugh, and it makes him smile.
When he joins him in the living room once more, Rozanov tugs him down to lean against him again. Shane goes easier this time, settling into it, knowing it doesn’t mean anything other than the fact that he just happens to be the closest warm body, the person on Rozanov’s roster who filled today’s slot.

Shane’s eyes flitted down to his half-empty beer, the condensation soaking his hand. He took a sip, half to have something to do besides avoid Ilya’s stare, half hoping it would provide a little liquid courage. Unfortunately, it had sat for too long, the liquid becoming room temperature, and Shane couldn’t help his grimace as it slid down his throat.
Ilya, who still hadn’t looked away, let out an amused huff at Shane’s evident misery.
“Do you want something better?” Ilya’s voice was low, a bit hoarse. Seductive, if Shane had to put a name to it, but that could have been the hopeful part of his brain talking. He only arched an eyebrow in response, not trusting his own voice to carry his words. It seemed to be enough for Ilya. “Follow me.”

It’s a difficult concept for Shane to grasp, taking up space like that. Birthday parties are always so loud and demanding of everyone’s attention, and Shane doesn’t know how to handle it, always stressed that people don’t actually want to be there or are just patronising him. The idea that people want to get together to celebrate Shane, besides his parents and husband, is completely foreign to him. The idea that his hockey team would show up for his birthday is incomprehensible.

A video of Ilya Rozanov goes insanely viral one weekend. It’s him stopped on a red light, riding one of his bright sportscar, windows down with loud music, singing and bobbing along to Bad Bunny songs, an unlit cig between his lips, blissfully aware smoking (pun intended) hot he looks.
Few days later, he gets modelling/brand offers he gladly accepts to cure his boredom while Shane is out doing his own brand deals. To get Ilya into the mood, directors let him play his own playlists and do his own thing.
It breaks the internet.
If there’s one thing that Hayden accidentally outing them Shane is thankful for, it’s the fact that he can now stake his claim on Ilya. He just did not expect it’ll be against most of the internet and a quarter of the league.
