Then he puts it aside. "It's stupid."
"No it's not."
"It is. It's really stupid."
"But you'll follow it?"
According to the contract, neighbors don't kiss, don't intrude on each other's lawns, and don't have feelings. Interpretations can but shouldn't vary.
Jay's going to stay far, far away from him now.

As a physics teacher, Jake is a big fan of the scientific method. You test, you observe, you adjust.
And so far, he observes that things are going well: the school musical is under control, the students are chaotic but talented, and Sunghoon is behaving in ways that are very certainly unrelated to Jake.
(Or: Jake spends most of a term misidentifying the problem and accidentally recruits an entire musical ensemble into fixing it.)
