Summary
News reporters took what they could, and ran with it. People panicked. Reports of contaminated food, cannibalistic inmates, and bodies shriveled to the state of mummies would be blasted over every TV and newspaper in the nation for weeks to come.
It wasn't the typical mark of a serial killer. In fact, there was no proof that the killings came from a serial killer at all...
But there were a few people took in the suspicious nature of the case, and the victims, and knew that it was more than just a simple illness.

And — and Light truly takes a moment to comb through the litany of information he has gathered obsessively over the years; hours of clicking through websites, days spent combing through entire sections of libraries, weeks spent in the biology department of his university — the human body, a fascinating organism that produces, creates and reacts from chemicals and environments; fighting foreign substances and fighting itself when it needs to.
The intimate feeling of blood rushing through his wrists and organs sitting in his torso feels heavier than ever. “What about skin to skin contact?”
L stills, locked in motion, face only showing traces of emotion through his eyes slightly cracking wider; an instinctual reaction borne from needing to widen the visual field if the body reacts to something it perceives as dangerous.
(Or, Light’s fascination with the human body and L’s lack of boundaries crash together. Surprisingly, it doesn’t end badly.)

William slowly got up and padded to the bunks. He climbed up and, hesitantly, crawled onto the bunk to lay next to Dakota, still invisible. His body made no impact on the blankets.
Dakota had no idea that there were two sets of eyes on his book.

Must have been some weird sense of nostalgia, he reasoned on the first day he ventured out to the store on his way home. He never really made sense of why it became a habit or why he even started to begin with. Tommy's always been more of a creative type- scribbling in school books, rotting away in GCSE Art, planning elaborate stories in class, yet he’d never considered chalk a medium he would explore. But four months down the track, Tommy is wasting a significant amount of money each week and ruining all his favourite sweaters with chalk dust.
