After years of being neglected, ignored, having all of dad’s failures projected onto him, Robert Robertson the Third took control back in the only way he knew how.
Burning the whole damn thing to the ground.
Now a villain, life is actually pretty chill. He’s got a cute dog, a sturdy warehouse, and oh right, a firebrand hero he is completely, utterly, pathetically, maddeningly obsessed with. A hero who plays the moral high ground but always somehow ends up on his knees, at Robert’s mercy.
Damn, life is good.

Summary
“Stay safe,” he says, pressing a kiss to Waterboy’s cheek.
“See you after the shift,” he says to Robert. He then tilts the man’s face up and gently kisses his temple. Waterboy waves goodbye to him as he leaves. Robert stays frozen for a few seconds.
It was a tame kiss, much tamer than Flambae’s normal kisses. But that’s the thing that gets Robert. It was gentle, domestic, even. It was such a small action, but there was actual love behind it.
The kiss throws Robert off for the rest of the shift. Punch-Up makes a point of calling him extra quiet, and Prism asks if he’s ok three separate times.

How many times had someone laid their hands on Robert and didn’t mean him harm?

Depending on how you define it, this plan meets with an unanticipated level of success.

“There’s a leader—rank—board for d-dispatchers?” Waterboy blurts. Robert's lips tip upwards, an amused little smile.
“Of course there is,” he drawls. “What, did you think you guys were special? Corporate likes to look at numbers going up and down."
“What are you guys even judged on?” Prism asks. Robert raises a hand, counting on his fingers as he speaks.
“Team synergy, mission success rate, call completion efficiency, subscriber satisfaction…” his smile widens wryly. “Collateral damage.”
“Where are you in the rankings?” Unable to contain his curiosity, Sonar cuts back in. Robert levels him with a blank stare.
“You spent an hour mid-shift last Tuesday ‘powdering your nose’,” he deadpans. “Where do you think I am?”
The Z-Team finds out about Robert's continued lack of furniture, the upsetting state of his wallet, and the dispatching team's leaderboard. They hatch a plan. Robert suffers a normal amount.

So of course when Robert realized he wasn't powerless, he could only laugh at the irony.
An immortal man who wishes he was dead really was the icing on the cake.
