The flirting was getting out of hand. When Ilya was not demonstrating his frustratingly admirable work ethic, he was sauntering over to the snack stand with one thing in mind: pretending to have any interest in Shane Hollander.
It was a cruel, sick joke.
Shane knew what was going on, and he would not be falling for it. Ilya was obviously a teasing, homophobic asshole.
From an outsiders perspective, perhaps it was not so obvious how Shane knew it was all a mean-spirited prank. To the untrained eye maybe it looked like genuine flirting on Ilya's part.
From Shane's point of view, it was as clear as the ultra chlorinated water of the pool.

Every three years in July, the Summit of Twelve Kingdoms occurs. It's now July 2017, and 26-year-old Omega Crown Prince Shane Hollander of the Atlantic Kingdom is attending for the first time. There, his Omega catches the attention of military commander Prince Ilya Rozanov of the Northern Kingdom, most well known as the Golden Alpha. Seeing each other from afar, Shane dreams of the Alpha and researches what it could mean.
As the summit comes to a close, mercenaries paid by an unknown source abduct Shane, but he wasn't the only one taken. Why were they taken? Could Soulmate Bonds really exist? Who paid the mercenaries? Was Shane the target? Who is looking for them? Will their abductors get the opportunity to sell them to the highest bidder? These and many more questions are inside... His best friend is asking for a divorce, he has a boring job and his boring co worker pities him enough to invite him to spend a few weeks with him and his family on their annual vacation to their summer cottage. And he's so pathetically lonely he accepts.
At 22, Shane has his whole life ahead of him. He's the captain of his university's hockey team, he's suspected to be the first draft pick in the MLH and he's able to maintain a 4.0 GPA on top of all that. His lack of a social life doesn't really bother him, he'll have time to date once he's achieved his life long dream. He's sure a girl will come along eventually.
OR Ilya is Shane's dad's hot co worker who ends up at the cottage one summer.

Shane spluttered, swinging his feet out of Ilya’s lap as he sat up. He knew he must look insane, eyes wipe and mouth gaping, but Ilya could not have just said what Shane thought he said.

“Well, yes, but that’s besides the point.” Shane couldn’t help his bark of laughter despite his heart still hammering a hole through his chest. “We trust each other. It gives you time to find your own experiences, but if not, well, you know I’ll take care of you.”
“I–,” Shane started, not sure how to process this new information. That Ilya would even want to have sex with him. Both of them are completely unaware of the fact that fate—or some very thorough algorithm—has already matched them as soulmates. And on a side note, Shane Hollander may be oblivious to the fact that Ilya Rozanov doesn’t actually mind this decision nearly as much as Shane thinks he would.
