Summary

Summary
Caleb built a routine for himself when he started his higher studies: classes at the University, working part time at the library, and recharging in the dorm with Mollymauk and Fjord.
Slowly, new things got introduced into that mundane living: cuddling with Mollymauk, Fjord spending most nights at Jester’s place, falling asleep holding Mollymauk, and ultimately being kissed by him.
Now, after a year of falling into a new comfortable order beside his new partner, Caleb’s normal is thrown off again, by one Essek Thelyss.

They're both exhausted, but rest won't find them like this. Essek proposes sleeping in the garden, under the stars, with their cats. It's easy for Essek to be there for Caleb until he goes to cast.

Summary
Essek came to the shelter simply hoping to be able to breathe again. He doesn't dream at being healed or reintroduced to society as if nothing happened. He just wants to be able to get through a whole day without worrying about a panic attack or nightmares plaguing his sleep, without recoiling from closeness and feigning arrogance instead of being open.
He can't even begin to imagine what must be going through Bren's mind, coming here for the third time in the last ten years. Why is he back if he's already been living on the outside for years now? Does anyone ever truly get their lives back? Or is it just people like Bren that fail to do so- people like Essek?

It's late enough into the evening that Caleb is startled by the knock at his door. Not that he was asleep. It's been a few months since he's slept at a decent hour consistently. He quietly pads up to the peephole to inspect his unexpected visitor. The sight leaves Caleb stunned for a moment, but he quickly spins the key in the lock after recovering and pulls the door open fully.
"Essek." He breathes out, mostly confused and concerned, but also a touch relieved. "I didn't know you were in the city." They have not talked in months that is.

So wearing an enchanted anti-magic set of jewelry to be at the mercy of his amazing partner sounds like the best course of action.

Caleb approaches, but the man doesn't raise his eyes until he is taking a seat right next to him. There is a quick up-and-down, which Caleb is not exactly a stranger to, so he smiles wryly under the attention. "Lythir?" The drow's intonation is slightly lilted, seductive, but the way he says the name betrays some nervousness.
There is a pang in Caleb's chest at the possibility of having to leave without getting to have a conversation, but he shakes his head truthfully. "If you're waiting for someone I can leave." he says, but doesn't move until told to. Lavander eyes pierce through his as if they are trying to find his intention from one sentence.

In the handful of months that have gone of Essek's first semester at Tidepeak University he's managed to create quite the reputation for himself. His perfect score at the entrance exam already offering some aid in that, plus the perk of rooming by himself in the dorms.
That is until a human man by the name Caleb Widogast seems intent to slot himself into his otherwise mostly solitary world. If not for his intelligence and talent Essek would have outright refused- or is it perhaps the warmth, openness and complexity that makes him want to keep Caleb around?
