Summary
Mumbo feels doomed to take and rob from everyone he's ever dared to love, while Cub doesn't entirely understand what the big deal is. If you want it, especially if you need it, there's no reason you should fuss. Just ask and it's yours. Everyone on the server would understand. Especially if it's eating people. Like, everyone eats people from time to time, Mumbo, and most of us aren't doing it to survive. Chillax.
Cub does not understand the extent of what Mumbo is, of what Mumbo needs, but regardless, Cub would be more than happy to fear him.
(this can probably be read as platonic or romantic but in my brain it skews more romantic. if a clearer line is drawn as the story progresses I will remove this note lol)

Summary
Scar let out an excited chitter as he swam a few slow circles around Grian, eyes locked on the large container in his hands. Grian had promised that he was going to bring him a present earlier in the week, and it looked like it was time for him to receive it.
“Alright, hang on–” Grian laughed as his fins brushed up against him. “Let me get the lid off.”
Scar paused his swimming, hovering in the water in front of Grian and the container, his eyes wide as he watched him remove the lid. There was a splash, a shudder of movement, and–
Oh! There was a catfish in the water with him!! A little spotted grey and black and white catfish, tiny, barely four inches probably, swimming around him in circles in a way that paralleled the way he had swam around Grian earlier.
“Grian!” Scar gasped, holding out his hands as the catfish swam between his fingers. “She’s so cute!”

Summary
Tango was fumbling with one of the little fidget devices he’d built over the years, made from scraps or odds and ends from the labs, they could spin, blink, roll around, or do countless other little things. When he wasn’t in the mood to work on any handicrafts like glassmaking, he would disassemble and reassemble all these little things instead. Today, unlike usual, he had company. Company in the form of his boyfriend...and wasn't that such a strange thing to think? Then again, stranger had happened. From the spark in Zed's eye when the redstone lit up, to the sight of the glass beads adorning sun kissed skin, all Tango could hope for was to always manage to keep Zed's eye. Considering the gaze of pure adoration he was under, to the point he was flaring again, well...that might not be such a challenge at all.
{In which redstone gadgets are cool, Tango fights his emotions and loses, and flares aren't about to stop Zed anytime soon.}

Summary
Why bother to even make it? Because of that itch of anxiety and the way it broke him a little further every time Zed came to see him, of course. And what did it even matter? He didn't understand, he was mimicking what was in a notebook Doc had put together for him, blaze-born courtship ritual had to do with these sorts of things. With the beads. He'd tried again and again to get it just right, imagined the amber-flecked glass landing on sunkissed skin, and thought maybe he'd finally just ask Zed to stop. Please stop. He'd never want this, never in the way Tango did, because Tango had been in love for awhile now, even if he hadn't noticed. Where was this going? Tango didn't know. The under-city had claws. It wasn't a place for such a bright, excessive, gorgeous person who clearly came from long days in the sun. Yet he'd make the trip beneath bedrock to see him, and Tango wouldn't dare to take it for anything more than just the man's obsessive curiosity.
But those beads were around Zed's neck now...and they looked beautiful.
So he would keep his mouth shut.{In which Zed runs into trouble, Tango sees the stars, Cub has a gun, and it's finally time to scrape some courage together.}

Summary
Cub liked this cafe. The one that Scar frequented near campus was nice, too, but it got busy and loud fast. Cub wasn't always in the mood to deal with that, but sometimes he did want to do something other than just go to work and then go home. Today in particular, he was glad he did. It wasn't easy; sometimes, his vision would play tricks on him in the brightness of the over-city, so far removed from the pitch-black world he'd been raised in. The only light occasional flickers of turquoise skulk flora growing over the stone. They'd tried to warn him that day, just the same as every day before, tried to protect him as they always did, his only friend in the world. Friend being quite an overstatement. It had been too loud, too bright, he'd been too slow, and had it been anyone else well...Cub wasn't sure if he'd still be breathing today.
Much less breathing fresh air.
Yeah, he was glad he'd stopped by the cafe today. It was good, for once, to run into a familiar face.{In which Cub can't have heard that right, Sausage is a ray of sunshine even if neither of them had seen the sun before, and they have 26 years of catching up to do.}

Summary
Pix was getting what was good for him. He was getting paid, and the labs were a shield against anything too terrible happening to him, so long as he was careful. He turned a blind eye to the things that made his heart feel heavy....but hey, this city was broken long before he was even born. There was no reason for him to shoulder the burden of trying to fix it. Maybe if it had mattered so much, his predecessors ought not to have so irreversibly screwed it all up in the first place. Then again, it wasn’t all their fault, either. Only so much you could do, in a place like this, with bedrock and secrets, straining and lies. It was enough to give anyone pause.
Pix tried not to do much pausing, though. That is, until he accidentally saves a little voidwalker from plunging to his death, gets his wallet stolen, buys some sandwiches, and witnesses the anarchy. As it would turn out, those were all such horrible things...but maybe...no, definitely...they were blessings in disguise.

Summary
Xisuma was the head of Over-City Relations with the Under-City Labs. What exactly did that mean? Well, a few things.
Mainly, he received and categorized orders from various different clans, levels, pyres, and other groups of what-have-you. Orders for what? Supplies from the over-city, of course. And from who? A rather eccentric man indeed. Keralis flirted the same as he breathed, to the point that it had become a running gag amongst himself, Xisuma, and XB, the burly fish hybrid who also helped run over-city relations. It had been this way for years. Xisuma was fine with that. They'd hardline negotiate over prices for vital supplies one moment, and then the next Keralis would lay out some smooth words, blink up at him with huge brown eyes through dark lashes, longish hair always plaited neatly to the sides, ponytail a bit askew from the railcart ride down...and Xisuma would feel like crumbling. Because there was nothing here, not really. After all, Keralis had never even seen his face.{In which Xisuma questions his line of employment, Keralis questions his flirting techniques, and XB thinks it'll either go well, or he'll make 50 bucks. Win-Win}

Summary
Joe’s Hyper Shack was a popular place, and Joe was very proud of it. It was the most popular coffee shop in the university quarter of the city, and was always bustling with activity, though it did have it's moments of tranquility. He made drinks that went from sugary flavor bombs to motor oil that had the Joe Hill's guarantee to keep you awake for twenty four hours straight...those did great during finals week! He made fun of his longest-running employee for being a wannabe goth boy, he decorated with psychedelic colors, and he played his favorite game in the world. That is, considering he was the owner of a coffee shop across the street from a university, he'd been witness to many 'hey, let's grab coffee' situations over the years. He'd grown adept at nailing down when couples were a sure thing or if they were bound to fall through. And nothing made him happier than suckering Hypno in to betting a couple bucks on his hunches.
{In which Joe Hills sells tasty motor oil, Hypno clashes colors, and Scar and Grian are to wrapped up in each other to realize they just lost Hypno twenty bucks}

A boy blessed with healing magic was always destined for this line of work. It was important work, and Impulse never complained about that. Even if it meant saving lives over studying engineering like he wanted to.

“Oh! Hey... you!” Scar greeted, turning to them with that blinding smile. Scar looked so much like Grian remembered, though the pointed ears and sharpened teeth were new. “You’re, uh...”
“You know Scar?” Mumbo asked, surprised for perhaps the first time since Grian had met him. “Where’d you meet him?”
“Uh, yeah!” Grian answered, throwing their hands up. “We’ve known each other since-”

Summary
The depths were always the loudest places.
To Etho, with his fox ears, it was always the hiss and grind of machinery, the buzz of electric lights, and the hum of redstone circuitry. This was the place he'd found his strengths, though, connections that now spanned all the under-city. He's walking back from checking in on one of his depots when he notices a chip in the wall. And isn't it strange?
How so much has changed, and so many years have gone by...and yet when he peers down the narrow alleyway, it looks exactly the same as it did that day. Like a snapshot frozen in time. From twenty years ago, when he'd seen colorful feathers and faces hardened to the hurt of a world he was far too familiar with...to the point where perhaps they were already broken.But if he left them there, then he'd be admitting he'd shattered as well, and that was the last thing he could bear to allow as the truth. And if it wasn't true for him, then it wouldn't be for these kids, either.
{In which Etho picks up some strays, Doc is not ready to be a father, the avian trio is weighing skepticism against pancakes, and all of them broke a long time ago...together though, maybe they can pull together something new.}
