Elphaba's eyes narrow. That feeling's back again, too, thrumming in the palms of her hands. There's a biting retort on her lips. But then she spots something else on Galinda's arm, just below her jewelry: pink rose petals and delicate leaves shaded faintly in green.
"You—what is that?"
"What's what?" Galinda looks down, then tilts her head up as she looks at Elphaba through long eyelashes. Slowly, like she's talking to a child, she says, "It's a tattoo."

Yet it was beautiful. Black goes good with pink.

In careful, deliberate ways, Elphaba has found she and Galinda are not so different. In careful, deliberate ways, they have also learned from each other— what it means to be certain that you never need to be anyone but exactly who you are; what it means to know that there is someone who would never ask you to change. What it means when one day, you look in the mirror, and you see that you have anyway, because change is so very easy when someone loves you that much.
Which is to say, that in some fashion, Galinda, who has never been careful or deliberate, has barged her way into Elphaba’s quiet life and for once banished her own impulses in favor of new ones, in favor of the slow, connective kindness that can only be unearthed by the gentlest pair of hands.
(Or, the five times that Galinda asks Elphaba to tell her a secret, and the one time Elphaba asks her.)

Elphaba smiles, feeling emboldened by the sudden remembrance of the verifiable facts that Glinda had been the one to initiate all of this and that Glinda had kissed her and that Glinda still hasn't left her lap, and that Glinda said not to apologise for making her rather seductively hiss. Elphaba slides both her hands slowly to Glinda's hips, squeezes once when they get there, "Well, you are wearing lipstick."
Glinda hums. Then she's lowering her head again. Only, this time, she angles it down and presses the lightest kiss to her jaw. She lingers longer there. And Elphaba sighs, guiltily, happily, feeling desperately needy for a real kiss.
