“Oh, you’re kidding, I love that book,” says Steve Harrington.
Eddie wonders, for about half a second, if he’s somehow fallen into a different dimension. He stares down at the battered copy of 'The Silmarillion' just in case he’s accidentally been reading like… whatever jocks read, a basketball like — handbook, or whatever. He isn’t. It’s still 'The Silmarillion'. Eddie looks up at Steve Harrington, who is standing at the bottom of the stairs Eddie is sitting on, sunlight in his hair, sneakers shifting awkwardly on the tarmac of the school yard. “Uh-huh,” Eddie says, sort of dumbly.

When Eddie gets a message on instagram from an account claiming to be the famous pop-star Steve Harrington, he knows immediately it's a catfish. He's not dumb. The account has no pictures and people like Steve Harrington don't just randomly DM guys like Eddie.
Still. What would be the harm in letting it play out? It's not dangerous if he knows he's being catfished. No, if he knows about it, then it's basically like a fun little roleplay. No harm, no foul.

Not everything in life is about finding love, you know. Sure, it would be nice, but he's just content to be alive right now. The Grim Reaper practically waved at him six years ago from across a trailer park that was no longer there, sucked into an earthquake that came out of fucking nowhere.
So why is Harrington suddenly everywhere and why does Chrissy seem to be having an internal melt down about Robin Buckley of all people?

Steve should be terrified. He’s shoved higher up the wall he’s pinned to, the boy’s eyes wild beneath his tangled mess of hair, his breath all rasp and spit and fear.
The bottle presses closer, harder, almost enough to break skin.
Steve knows it won’t, though, because this isn’t the first time he’s been here.
Or, Steve keeps finding himself back in the boathouse where everything started, wrapped up in the arms of a boy who can’t stop dying. Saving him means ending his torment, and it also means falling in love.
