It's about as pointless as trying to put a leash on an animal once it's already roaming wild. Would be plain cruel at that point.
"You didn't even try", Nero says bitterly.
Dante sighs so solemnly that his shoulders fall. "Kid, I've been trying for forty years"After their return from Hell, a turbulent attempt at coexistence drives the twins apart. Vergil drifts, and Dante spirals.

Summary
Vergil wants to go back to earth to clear up unfinished business with Nero, and Dante is happy to drag them both out of hell, finally. But when the twins make it back, sorting out their goals ends up being not nearly as easy as they had hoped, and Nero is desperately fighting himself and his family, as he’s unwillingly getting dragged into another demonic mess.

Just because he's won their fight doesn't mean Vergil has submitted. Even he says he can still fight. Once, Nero would be proud of his father's newfound humanity and tenaciousness, but he's beyond patience. He promised that he would make his father submit, that he would keep his new family together, and by Sparda himself he was going to do it.
Even if it means domming the hell out of his father and sucking that brand of stubborness through his dicks. Not that their demonic sides disagree.
