“Are… Dad… are—are we gonna… go to McDonald’s?” JJ asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Luke pulled out of the parking lot and glanced over at him. “Do you think you deserve McDonald’s?”
JJ stared down at his lap, fingers twisting together, then nodded.
Luke shook his head. “You’ll be lucky if you eat anything tonight.”
JJ turned toward the window, the world outside blurring as a tear slipped down his cheek. He didn’t make a sound.
“J… look at me.”
Slowly, JJ turned back. Luke took his eyes off the road for a second, just long enough to see his face.
“Wipe your face.”
JJ turned away again and rubbed at his cheeks with the backs of his hands, trying to erase any proof he’d been crying.
“You need to start behaving,” Luke said, his voice low and sharp, “before I spank you so hard you can’t sit for a week.”

“Don’t you see, Harry? We’re the same, you and I,” Tom whispers softly, grabbing Harry’s wrist. Tom strokes the thin skin, causing Harry to look at him. If he could, Tom would pluck those eyes out so they wouldn’t look at anyone else.
“No, I don’t think so,” Harry protests. The boy’s eyes stray to the discarded stones, the stones Tom almost used to kill those children. Displeasure seers through him at the lack of attention. Tom taps his pulse point with his thumb, coaxing Harry’s eyes back to him.
“Of course we are, and we need each other.” It’s a lie, but it comes out more sincere than Tom ever imagined. Harry inclines his head, sizing up the truth of Tom’s declaration for himself.
“Okay, sure,” the boy decides suddenly.
Harry Potter was his.
Tom Riddle meets Harry Potter at Wool's Orphanage where he immediately becomes a thorn in his side. Upon the discovery that Harry was like him, Tom decides he cannot and will not let Harry go. Even Harry's endless complaints and inevitable devastation if he ever found out Tom's plans cannot stop him from pursuing political domination.

Bruce Wayne’s newest philanthropy project is focused on children's services. But handing over check after check doesn’t seem to give him the feeling that he’s doing anything.
At least there's Batman. But it’s lonely work, living by the moonlight.

The vigilante is like a breath of fresh air. Eager, friendly, and surprisingly good company, even for a patented loner.
As their interactions on the street grow, Bruce’s walls begin to crumble. But once he starts asking questions, he can’t stop, and he can’t take personal stake in the affairs of Batman.
