There is something wrong with James. It’s only logical. People do not like him overly much; he has often been told he’s rude, arrogant, dismissive, annoying, obnoxious.
And then there is the very popular phrase ‘What is wrong with you?’ which James has never known how to answer. In the past, it never occurred to him that there could be something wrong. Not when he wasn’t actually sick, or in the hospital for an odd fall or a surgery. He understands now, years later, that his health was never the concern addressed with that question.

Troy Barrett has always been sensitive, it's something his father tried and failed to beat out of him. It was engrained into his very bones, but he'd learnt to push it down to only crack once alone. He laughed with the jokes, joined Dallas's name calling, or starting fights, and trained hard.
He'd done everything he could to keep his job stable in his team. And he'd been traded, to fucking Ottawa after making the dumb decision to tell Coach that Dallas was being weird. He could have handled it, but he had to go and tell.
Ilya Rozanov was an arsehole, but a carefully curated one. He didn't act like Barrett did, he was careful, and now said arsehole was going to be part of their team.

“Sokka seems almost startled and a bit guilty, before he relaxes again and says, his voice very soft, “Oh. Yeah, it’s gorgeous.” He sighs, before shaking his head and turning to face Zuko with a lopsided smile.
The ex-prince feels his chest seize and wonders briefly if he’s having a heart attack. What the hell was that? he thinks, a little panicked. Abruptly, he realizes that Sokka is talking and blurts out, “I’m sorry, I- I zoned out. What were you saying?”
Sokka laughs a little. “I was just asking how it is teaching Aang how to breath,” he explains.
Zuko’s snort of laughter is more than a little forced but, hey, in his defense, he’s still a bit worried that he’s about to keel over from a heart attack.”

Isaac was asleep on the couch, his legs curled up.
Chris didn’t know where Isaac usually spent his nights. He had heard that he was staying with the McCalls before… before, but he had no idea if that was still the case. Chris thought he should probably shake him awake and send him on his way. He tried not to think too carefully about what he was doing as he covered Isaac with a blanket instead. He tried not to think too carefully about turning the reading lamp on and the fact that even if Isaac woke during the night he wouldn’t exactly need the lamp to see by.
He definitely didn’t look back as he stood in the doorway, hand on the light switch, because checking on a sleeping child as the final course of the night before turning in wasn’t a thing he needed to do anymore.
