Shosanna Dreyfus had never been the romantic type, and that still held true.

Shosanna had to silence Fredrick and get him out of here.

She was lost in these nostalgic and angry thoughts while she was on the ladder several meters above ground. Shosanna was so busy changing the title of the next film on the marquee she hardly heard a male voice calling her from below.

If she hadn't been clinging firmly to the ladder, Shosanna probably would have fallen.
She had heard those words uttered hundreds of times since working at Le Gamaar, and they were exactly the same she had stamped on her left hip for over three years.

Looking at Emmanuelle's hand for a long moment, Fredrick thought that he would give anything just to grab it... or even hold it in his for a while. The comfort that contact would provide him would be so soothing for the loneliness that he constantly felt, like a thorn in his flesh. Even just imagining such a thing brought tears to his eyes.Fortunately he managed to push them back and hand the lighter to Emmanuelle to allow her to smoke her cigarette. Her face, as gorgeous as that of a Greek Aphrodite, came so close to Fredrick's.
She had her cigarette stuck in her beautiful full lips, her gaze pointed downwards in the direction of his lighter, and her hair was disorderly, sticking out from under her brown hat. She was the most glorious thing Fredrick had ever seen in his entire life.

Buried in the gray and black SS uniforms, she noticed Francesca's gaudy clothes, her poodles, Goebbels' gelled hair, and then him.She stared at him and somehow, he must have felt her gaze and turned to look back at her.
Fredrick was dressed in the same uniform he wore during their only lunch together here - that detail was impressed on her as if a bucket of cold water had been thrown in her face.
He didn't recognize her at all... it was as if he were staring at a perfect stranger, and it chipped at Shosanna's heart.

Irritation, as sour as expired milk, rose in Shosanna's throat.
Who the fuck did Fredrick Zoller think he was, and how dare he enter her kitchen and give her orders like that? She had received a Michelin star only a few months ago!

Shosanna had noticed hours ago that Fredrick hadn't shown up to the last show of her Linder festival that night, and she had greeted the news with a huge sigh of relief.Remaining in peace without him, even for just one evening, almost seemed like a mirage. Only, she realized later, she had nevertheless looked for him in the small crowd of people who had gone to Le Gamaar that evening, and cursed herself for her foolish deed.
Shosanna tried so hard to hate Fredrick with everything she had, in a constant exercise of contempt now meshed in her mind, that she sometimes forgot that she wasn’t as totally indifferent to him as she really wanted to be.
The problem was that Fredrick's presence had become so fixed and stifling that it was almost a habit for Shosanna to have him hovering around at every possible opportunity.
Or at least that was the explanation she gave herself every time her eyes sought out his clean, boyish face amongst all other people.

The unexpected presence of Fredrick Zoller (God, did he never leave her alone?!) frightened Shosanna, waking her up to the point that she stumbled on her foot and slipped badly on the floor. The hard, wet asphalt slammed into her right ankle, inflicting a sharp pain that pierced her brain and ripped a choked Merde from her mouth.
A pair of large, warm hands approached her very gently, but Shosanna stiffened even more, turning into a motionless marble statue. “Please, don't touch me,” was all she said to the soldier crouching next to her, as she attempted to get to her feet and place her right foot on the ground.
“I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to scare you,” Fredrick Zoller whispered to her, his voice as thin as the sound of a flute. Shosanna's ears did not fail to notice his usual sweetness and gallantry when he addressed her, as if she were a precious and caring person when, in reality, she was the complete opposite of what he thought.

Yeah, perhaps Munich was not as magical or charming as Paris – which had by now become his favorite city; It was no coincidence that he had always learned French at school with great alacrity, almost as if he felt that this would be a special place for his life -, but for Fredrick that was home and he wanted to take Emmanuelle there.
He wanted her to eat at the same table as her beloved sisters for Christmas lunch, he wanted to take her skating on the frozen Isar, he wanted to lead her hand in hand through the Christmas markets with the air smelling of cinnamon and spiced wine, he wanted to give her fresh flowers every day, he wanted to prepare the nativity scene with her, he wanted to watch Charlie Chaplin films sitting on Das Haus Kino's velvet armchairs commenting on every funny scene in her ear.
Fredrick wanted to admire Emmanuelle in the light of the Munich street lamps, with the feather-light snowflakes that would adorn her blond hair and her gaze full of love for him.

Shosanna and Fredrick became extremely close.
They laughed a lot, even though their characters were progressively sliding towards tragedy. They were able to understand each other with a glance, to bring out the very best acting in a scene... Shosanna always smiled when they were together, in and out of her character.
It was a truly unique thing, never experienced before in her whole career.
Too bad for that signed clause that anguished her and always came back to her mind when she realized that her budding work relationship with Fredrick was leading to something more personal every passing day.
It didn't matter how nice and sweet Fredrick was to her and how much he talked to her about his life, passions, secrets - he was born and raised in Munich, had six older sisters, spoke seven languages, listened often to Rammstein to concentrate before scenes, learned to play the piano like Daniel, and he read a lot of books about the Nazi occupation in France.
He was a coworker, just a co-star... he was automatically off limits.
[Shosanna is a young actress casted by Hans Landa. His co-star, Fredrick, is amazing... too bad she signed an an anti-fraternization clause]
