Chapter Text
Ahsoka awoke. This was confusing. She was fairly certain she’d just been awake, and yet was most definitely awake now. Her location also confused her. It was… not where she’d just been. It was not somewhere she should even be able to go. It was a place that had stars in the night sky, unlike the world she’d been trapped on for so long. The ground beneath her feet was mostly transparent, and in front of her there stood nothing. A complete lack of anything. Even the Force didn’t extend past this great barrier.
It was the World Between Worlds. Kark.
Ahsoka had never liked the place, on either of her two previous visits. Mainly because they were following times she should have died. This void didn’t help her dislike of it, so she turned around.
She was definitely here for the same reason as last time, because Mace Windu stood in front of her.
‘Hello there,’ she greeted, hoping she wasn’t interrupting his afterlife too much.
‘Citizen Tano. Welcome.’ He didn’t sound happy. Then again, he rarely did.
‘Good to see you again, Master Windu. How has your afterlife been?’
‘Mostly pleasant,’ he added, smiling at the question, ‘however some of Skywalker’s antics were quite… irritating to watch.’ Ahsoka sighed. She knew this all too well, having faced him on Malachor.
‘Indeed. His attempt on my life was unpleasant.’
‘At least he didn’t succeed. Force knows he did with me.’ Ah. So Anakin had killed Master Windu. That explained a lot.
‘He did. My fate was changed here by one of your lineage.’ He looked surprised, impressed, and horrified at this news. It wasn’t a great look.
‘Unfortunately, the Force seems to have it out for your lineage.’ Well, this would end poorly. ‘It wants me to grant you Mastery.’ Master Windu sighed. Of all the things for the Force to want, that was not what Ahsoka had expected.
‘I hardly feel that I am worthy of that, Master.’
‘I disagree. Your actions have shown you are more than deserving of the mantle.’ He smiled at her. Her? Deserving of Mastery? She couldn’t believe it.
She dropped into a deep bow. In front of her, she heard the snap-hiss of Master Windu’s lightsabre. It hummed in her montrals in a rather comfortable manner. She had greatly missed the feel of it, especially after she’d sacrificed her own kyber crystals to get Sabine home, something they’d all been in agreement with (except the Mandalorian).
Either way, it was a shock as Master Windu (did she call him Mace now?) first Knighted her, then granted her the rank of Master. She stood after he extinguished his lightsabre.
‘Congratulations, Master Tano.’ Mace(?) treated the moment with all the sincerity it deserved. ‘May the Force – where the kriff are your lightsabres?’
‘I destroyed them to help another,’ Ahsoka explained, amused at the High Councillor’s use of curses. He considered this for a minute, then nodded.
‘Good work.’
‘Thank you.’ She bowed again, not as deep this time.
‘There is one more thing the Force wishes me to do. You are to know, that under the Sentient Rights Act, you are granted the right to access to a copy of the full legislature of the Galactic Republic, if you so wish. May the Force be with you.’ He bowed to her, and she returned it, going as deep as she could to show her respect for the Master.
When she straightened up, he was gone. She hesitated for a minute, then let her feelings into the Force. It was safe here, the Empire or its Remnants couldn’t get to her. She still worried, even though they’d been gone years ago. With the mixture of shock-grief-regret dissipating around her, she strode across the floor.
She expected a choice in where (when) to go. The Force, however, was not going to be so vague. There was one doorway out of the World.
Well, at least this was going to be easy.
