you call the shots, babe (i just wanna be yours)

Summary:

Angels and Bandits lead singer Ben Solo is touring the festival circuit sans Rey for the first time in years and, predictably, he's a mess about it. But his wife—and his favorite strap—know just how to set his body and mind at ease.

Notes:

when i say this wouldn't have been finished without nine and blue, i MEAN this wouldn't have been finished without nine and blue. i decided literally last NIGHT to write this for michelle's birthday. that's a wild idea, but fingers went zoom, the phone/discord tree was activated, and go, go team! we all of us want michelle to have the very best birthday possible!!!

my thanks to nine for taking my flurry of alt text and photos and turning them into the beginning four bleets (my kingdom for a bluesky generator). nine also gave this the beta once-over. an angel!

my thanks to blue for cheerleading this and gently taking my limp, last-minute moodie out of my hand and creating this lovely one instead.

and my thanks as always to the not safe for punky bluesky prompt account. the pic in the moodie of the man with the pillow over his face is #57 and it is a delight.

before the fun begins, just a note: this is the third in my angels and bandits series. while i don't think it is strictly speaking *necessary* to read those two first, it might be more fun that way! chapter two is about 75% done and will be up sometime in the next two weeks (depending on my editing schedule!) so hit that subscribe button to stay locked in for the porny bits.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

moodboard for 'you can call the shots babe (i just wanna be yours)' by janejanajuno. moodboard by the incredible blue. it's a deep red background with four black and white images held up by transparent black tape. it also features winding earbuds, a snippet of writing on torn cream paper, and a cream ticket that spells out good times. the first black and white photo is a picture of a muscular man in bed with one hand holding a pillow over his face and the other held down somewhere by his pelvis. one is of daisy ridley wearing a white graphic t-shirt, a sparkly vest, and hoops. her hair is up in a bun and she has tendrils pulled out and large hoops. fun fact, it's one of my fave pictures of her. one is of adam driver in a black t-shirt that says romantics. he's wearing a bandaid over the bridge of his nose. the plast is of a woman from the knees up to her rib cage kneeling on a bed. she's dressed in lingerie and a harness for a strap-on.

Bleet 1 by @bensoloisdaddy: is it just me or do they sound better when the wife and spawn are at home Reply one by @jazzmomma: Eyeroll emoji Reply two by @jackedbyjannah: is this rage bait Reply three by @vulptexvixen: pack it up, he’s not going to bring back the lapdance lottery, babe, and he’d definitely never going to fuck you. touch grass Reply four by @thelastpaige: acoustics: famously susceptible to matrimonial fidelity

Bleet 2 by @rosieposie: i think the new song Ben wrote for Rey is one of their best yet *sparkle heart emoji* Reply one by @mr_rosieposie: right? makes me so excited to hear the rest of the new album! maybe we’re in store for another round of Grammys this year! Reply two by @thedrummerbeau: i think it’s mid Reply to reply by @rosieposie: and i think you should walk into the sea

Bleet 3 by @mrsbensolo: you guys see the rumor they’re getting divorced Reply one by @angelsandbanditsnews: are you on something—he’s literally dedicated a song to his wife every single night Reply to reply by @mrsbensolo: oh yeah, then why isn’t she here?! Reply to reply to reply by @angelsandbanditsnews: his kid got the flu? or don’t you read?

Bleet 4 by pop crave: Angels and Bandits wrap up the summer festival circuit with a sold-out set at Hinterland with pyrotechnics and a love ballad.

Two weeks alone with a germ-festooned five-year-old who hadn’t quite mastered coughing into her elbow was enough to wreck even the most fastidious of persons—and Rey wasn’t remotely in the running for that particular title.

The door to the den was closed most of the way, but the dulcet sounds of Frozen—and her daughter’s far less tuneful croak—still found their way through the slight crack to reverberate momentarily in the stale sickbed air still permeating their Upper West Side penthouse. At a particularly dissonant harmony, Rey winced. Either Stella had inherited Rey’s tendency to go flat and stay flat—or this was the final vestiges of the flu battling out its last gasp.

Either way, she was really over Elsa’s plight. Rey needed to introduce this child to KPop Demon Hunters or Mamma Mia or…anything else. Anything at all. Maybe she could coax Stella into watching a few episodes of Bluey while Rey tackled the laundry.

And possibly vacuumed? She was starting to forget the color of the rug that was buried somewhere under the blanket forts and crumpled tissues littered all over the living room.

Ben was coming home tomorrow and she’d like to welcome him back into an environment that didn’t resemble a construction zone. Or a lab experiment gone awry.

She might even do something really whimsical, like shower.

Leaning one elbow on the celadon quartz countertops Ben had conceded to in Rey’s campaign to introduce color into his black-and-white apartment, she reached for her phone right as it lit up with an incoming text.

Poe: Hey, babe Rey: Poeseph, as I live and breathe. How was Iowa? Poe: Rey, my darling, I fear i do not have the necessary inches for corn country Rey: Bruised your ego? Poe: Like hell. Meanwhile… Rey: Well. You already knew Ben’s a fucking giant. Was he preening? Poe: he put in a valiant effort

Poe: he put in a valiant effort Poe: But his heart wasn’t in it Poe: He misses you Poe: You and Stella both Rey: Yeah. Yeah, i know. The number of texts i have blowing up my phone is—well, it’s very Ben Rey: We miss him back Poe: Speaking of Stella, how is my peanut? Rey: Recuperating but she’s easily at 90% Poe: Is that well enough that nana and pop-pop could take her for a night?

Rey: I’m sending this directly to Leia Poe: Jesus, I thought we were pals. please don’t do that to me. Rey: picture of a grey tabby sitting at a barstool at a kitchen island. Their front paws are folded over each other and they look a little evil. Like a little evil mastermind Rey: Would be nice to be owed a favor Poe: *whistle emoji* You’re evil but you’re my kind of evil

Rey: smug emoji Rey: Why tho Poe: Idk, you’ve got a whiff of rapscallion about you Rey: No, my dear idiot, why do Leia and Han need to take Stella for the night? Poe: Oh Poe: Well Poe: Far be it from me to interfere Rey: Said you absolutely never Poe: But i think ben could stand to get dicked down by you asap

Rey: We need to know less about each other Poe: Ok, but you know i’m right Rey: I’m going now Poe: Just think about it Rey: BYE, POE Poe: Byeeeeeee, babe, love youuuuuuu Rey: change your profile pic, you vain numpty Rey: love you too

Tapping her phone absently with the chipped remnants of last month’s manicure, Rey stared out the window and down at the miniature people crowding the winding paths of the park below. This changed things. As much of a (beloved) irritant as Poe could be, she was also sure he was correct. He knew Ben down to his bones. And so did she. If her husband needed fucking, she had a tried and true solution.

Rey took another look around the apartment and at her faint reflection in the window. She no longer had time for laundry. She had time for an emergency cleaner, a rushed visit to Leia and Han’s, and, if luck was on her side, an appointment with her waxer.

“Stella, my love, do you want to have a sleepover with Grandma and Grandpa?”

And a stop at La Perla. La Perla was a must.
