Work Text:
The water was growing colder every single minute. Both Shadow Milk Cookie and Pure Vanilla Cookie, in their purest forms. Shadow Milks eyes fluttered shut, taking in the moment as the water soaks into his dough thoroughly. Pure Vanilla cant stop staring at Shadow Milk ever so gently, basking in his beauty. He had always been so beautiful.
The water rippled as they made slight movements, it being almost perfectly still. To think of them having such an intimate moment, being so physically close to each other like this.. It helps them both escape from everything happening recently, before reality can fully set in.
War was coming, and so was Dark Enchantress Cookie.
It would not take a miracle to figure out. With the beast cookies joining her side, as well as having her huge army, it would take lots of power to take her down. Now that the ancients have awakened, they would definitely be more powerful, but is it really enough to stop the impending doom lying upon them?
Shadow Milk Cookie thought to himself silently, but it was as if his thought were loud. Even while bathing together, They both couldn’t take their minds off of it. This violence, this war, this damage. The doom coming for them. They needed to forge a plan, but it felt almost hopeless for Shadow Milk Cookie. He usually would do his best to help prepare for stuff like this, giving encouragement to Pure Vanilla and everyone else, such as Black Raisin cookie, who he had been taking a liking to, or even Strawberry Crepe Cookie in their management of the wafflebots.
The wafflebots would certainly play an important role in rebuilding the kingdoms damage and such, or even just patrolling the area, but that would only be if the kingdom was even able to stand tall. Who knew if this war would mean great success or a kingdom to come crumbling down? Perhaps something in the middle would be the most expected.
Pure Vanilla Cookie raises his hand up suddenly, extending his arm towards Shadow Milk. The water ripples and swishes around, in courtesy to his sudden movement. He places his warm and soft surfaced palm on Shadow Milks cheek, caressing him gently. Shadow Milks eyes flutter open at the touch, and is met with a warm smile from Pure Vanilla.
He’s so graceful.
“…Pure Vanilla?” Shadow Milk finally questioned what this sudden hold on his cheek was for, but to which Pure Vanilla just responded with silence, before he started humming, closing his eyes as if he could stay like this forever.
Such vulnerability to be like this, in their purest forms, was once again the very thing Shadow Milk thought of… Back then, in the spire, he never could of imagined doing this. When he first arrived at the Vanilla Castle, he was rebellious and still loved to play tricks. He also refused to do anything for a few weeks, but nonetheless he now has given at least half of his trust to Pure Vanilla, along with being open to give even an ounce of vulnerability.
But could this really just be worth a singular ounce?
”….The waters getting cold.” Shadow Milk whispers, Pure Vanillas warm hand still caressing his cheek with care. Shadow Milk surely had learned to be kinder in the few months he’s been here in the Vanilla Kingdom, but he still didn’t understand it all.
In fact, there were a lot of things he just couldn’t understand.
For one, why would Pure Vanilla be so kind, so compassionate and understanding towards him? He had relentlessly tormented him and even changed his view on the world, though just for a rather short period of time.
“Maybe you weren’t so lonely after all?”
“Maybe it’ll be easier if i say this….I want to be your friend.”
“….Friend…?”
It rang in Shadow Milks head a thousand times, over and over. He could never wuite let that moment go, just as he cant let the present moment go right now.
“…Thank you, Shadow Milk.. for accepting my invitation, those months ago.”
Shadow Milks didn’t even realize he was looking down at the water until his eyes shot up to look at Pure Vanillas. It was as if he read his mind, and it was so confusing. That was only meant to be Shadow Milks power, You little Soul-Jam stealer.
And that was still something he liked to call Pure Vanilla, but only in a teasing way. He never really meant it for the most part.
Shadow Milks stared at him for a few seconds, before quietly but firmly murmuring “You…Please don’t get the plot twisted. You know that it took me a long while before I could face my true feelings…I… I did not want to admit that i felt truly alone.” Shadow Milk stated, returning his gaze to the water, avoiding eye contact.
“…It might have taken awhile, yes… But you ended up still accepting my friendship, no? And.. I am still truly grateful that you have bettered yourself. I understand that you- No… We may all have flaws, but it’s better to look at the most important things. The positives. And… I can certainly list some about you.” Pure Vanilla spoke in a gentle and patient tone of voice, loving and calm. Despite Shadow Milk refusing to return eye contact, he continued to stare into his eyes with complete beauty and happiness. The water is cold, but the room feels warm, compared to earlier.
…
”…Oh, yeah? List some for me then, grandpa. I would like to hear it.” Shadow Milk teased, clearly amused now. His vibe felt different from earlier, to Pure Vanillas relief. He didn’t want him to feel troubled when they were being so connected and intimate.
“Well, to start… Your funny, beautiful and handsome…Creative, sweet..” Pure Vanilla started genuinely listing them all out, closing his eyes and smiling warmly. Shadow Milk put his finger over his lips to shush him. “Alright, Alright… thats enough for today…” Shadow Milk was so cute when flustered. Pure Vanilla opened his eyes once more, to which he was met with a blushing Shadow Milk, turning his head to look at Pure Vanilla.
“….I suppose the water has gotten cold, huh? I guess we should probably get out.” Pure Vanilla stated quietly, changing the subject, still with warm love in his eyes. Shadow Milk nodded silently.
- . . .
Shadow Milk opened the door to Pure Vanillas room slightly, feeling a bit worried. It’s evening, yet he hasn’t seen him to come down to eat even once. “Pure Vanilla. I noticed..That you haven’t eaten anything today. Have you been thinking about the war or something?” He asked quietly, trying to not startle Pure Vanilla. Though, he remained silent, to which Shadow Milk took as invitation inside.
“Do you want me to get it for you? You know I hate having to move around so much, Halfpenny, but…” Shadow Milk proposed the idea. Though, that second sentence caught Pure Vanilla off guard, and it gave him a bit of guilt. He didn’t want to burden Shadow Milk at all, considering they both also have to deal with the immense amount of politics going on.
Pure Vanilla turned his head slightly to look Shadow Milk in the eyes, giving him a smile.
”Oh, please don’t trouble yourself. Im sure that I’ll remember. Thank you, though, Shadow Milk. I… did not know you were capable of being so helpful.” Pure Vanilla shifted in his seat, turning his head away though still looking at shadow milk, before turning his attention back to the paperwork lying in front of him on his desk.
“Other-half.” Shadow Milk replied in a flat tone. Pure Vanilla could tell his excuse wasn’t approved. “…Gee, I might as well just go get it for you.” Shadow Milk stood for a few more seconds, staring at him with narrow eyes, before turning and walking off. Pure Vanilla tried to pay it no mind.
The potential end is coming. He’s not sure if Shadow Milk also knows or thinks this, but despite being the Cookie of Truth… He still wants to lie and shut the potential truth off from Shadow Milk Cookie. However, back when he awakened, he chose not to shut either the truth nor deceit out. He danced with both truth and deceit, as they both shouldn’t define who he is, and he can be his own person fully embracing both.
The truth is just as beautiful as deceit, and in order to live…in order to survive, one must embrace both. Both need to coexist with each other.
It didn’t take long before Shadow Milk was already back with food in hand. He walked up to Pure Vanilla, not taking his unusually soft gaze off of him. Before, his composed expression was always laced with malice and some sort of disdain, but now…Its completely rid of that.
“Here is your dinner, you hopeless servant.” Shadow Milk said, placing the food on the desk next to a pile of paperwork in front of Pure Vanilla. Pure Vanilla stared at the meal for a few seconds, before looking up to meet his sinister expression, which is merely out of playfulness, followed by a smirk. Pure Vanilla gave him a deadpan look.
“Last time I remember, the servant was the one bringing the royal the food. Are you sure thats not you?” Pure Vanilla chuckled, to which Shadow Milk immediately threw his hand up on top of his forehead, the other hand imitating tears, like the dramatic self he is. “Last time I remember, you are supposed to be thanking me gracefully for delivering this amazing meal to you. I had to use my oh so fragile body just to grab this for you, how dare you say such a cruel thing, you half-penny?!~”
Pure Vanilla still couldn’t help but giggle even more at his playful attitude and theatrical act. “Anyways, My job here is done, and make sure to eat. I will be checking!~ ♪” Shadow Milk said, walking towards the door.
Pure Vanilla knew he probably was going to leave the food untouched, and he also knew that sitting in here doing paperwork alone was so lonely and stressful too. “ah…Shadow Milk, actually..Is it okay if you can stay in here for the time being? You can talk about whatever you would like while i work. Though, it’s okay if not…” Pure Vanilla interrupted his attitude slightly. He didn’t look Shadow Milk in the eyes when he turned around, as he usually does.
“..Hmph, fine. I have a few questions about some stuff, despite formally being the absolutely amazing fount of knowledge.” Shadow Milk started making his way to Pure Vanillas bed, which he sat on the edge of, resting his head in his palms, leaned in forward.
”Yeah? Like what, exactly?” Pure Vanilla wondered what questions there were to be asked, especially when Shadow Milk Cookie probably knew almost everything there is to know. He listened intently, writing on the paper in front of him.
”I want to know the exact situation going on in your own words. In terms of the war between us and Dark Enchantress Cookie, i mean.” Pure Vanilla paused, his eyes widening slightly. In your own words. He had a feeling that Shadow Milk already knew everything, but wanted to hear what Pure Vanilla had to say about it all.
“Uhm..Well, ah…” Pure Vanilla didn’t know what to say, and that was the truth. “I.. don’t really know what there is to say. Im taking it you probably already know everything happening anyway, right? And besides… Im sorry i had to drag you into this, despite being on our side now. I understand that your fellow..Companions, are probably not too happy about your switch-up.” Shadow Milk raised an eyebrow at his apology. There was no need.
“Theres no need to apologize, Nilly. You think I don’t like some of the intense atmosphere anyway? This kingdom is so boring, I sometimes feel like i could die of boredom.” It felt obvious that Shadow Milk was rather just trying to lighten the mood a bit, and that this was only a half-truth.
…
”Shadow Milk Cookie… Must I remind you that its perfectly okay to be fully honest to yourself and others?” Pure Vanilla paused, before continuing. “It’s…Okay to say that you feel worried. I do as well.” Shadow Milk stared at Pure Vanilla angrily. He might have started to trust him at least a little bit now, but witches, did he still make him absolutely furious sometimes.
“You,” Shadow Milk started, slowly standing up. “Must have absolutely gone crazy.” Pure Vanilla stared at him for a few seconds, before standing up as well. “Shadow Milk, did I touch a nerve? I am sorry. I didn’t mean to….ah…” Pure Vanilla didn’t want to force him to stay, but he quickly walked up to him, stopping Shadow Milk In front of the door by grabbing his wrist. A firm grip, but not tight.
“augh…!”
Pure Vanilla looked at him in confusion. He didn’t have a tight grip on his wrist, so it surely couldn’t hurt, and Shadow Milk is not the type to easily flinch or be startled like that. “Bluebird?…Whats wrong?..Does your wrist hurt?” Pure Vanilla questioned, loosening the hold on his wrist greatly, keeping a patient expression.
“It..Its fine. Anyway…You need to eat your food. I don’t want you to be distracted from me anymore too, so i’m just gonna go. Thats the only question I had.
”…Could i perhaps still take a look at your wrist? You don’t seem like the type to be easily startled, and especially since that sounded like a yelp of pain…I hope you don’t forget i am a healer.” Pure Vanilla asked calmly, eyes remaining gentle, to which Shadow Milk could look into forever.
“I…Would rather you not. And as I said, I must be going.” Shadow Milk started to get nervous, to which Pure Vanilla got worried instantly. From this point on, he knew something was up, causing him to immediately tighten his grip again.
“Bluebird.” Pure Vanilla said firmly. He was stubborn sometimes, but Shadow Milk was way worse. Their bickering could go on like this forever. Shadow Milks eyes widened slightly. “Please let me see if theres anything in need of healing.”
Shadow Milk froze, something he barely ever does in term of flight or fight responses- and despite Pure Vanilla feeling bad about possibly invading his privacy or his boundaries like this, he truly wanted to make sure he is okay. He lifts Shadow Milks sleeves up, to which Shadow Milk only stares and watches in horror, standing there frozen.
“….Bluebird…” They were both silent. Even the smallest of noise could break it.
“….Yes?”
“Are you…alright? What is this…?” Pure Vanillas voice was strained. It was filled with worry and pain, but also deep compassion and understanding.
“……Get out of my way.” Shadow Milk whispered in an angry and serious tone of voice. He has felt so much more trust for Pure Vanilla recently than he used to, but he still couldn’t allow himself to be vulnerable in this kind of way.
The cuts looked fresh, much to Pure Vanillas sorrow for Shadow Milk, filled with love and compassion. He wanted to help him the most that he could, but it seemed like Shadow Milk might never let him in.
“Shadow Milk, I hope you do know that I don’t think this is disgusting or anything of that sort, i’m also not disappointed, I just….I just want to know if you’re okay with telling me why you would do this.”
….Silence. It filled the room and gave everyone a sense of unease. Compared to earlier, The room felt so cold. Shadow Milk felt nothing but fear and anger right now, and Pure Vanilla felt nothing but sadness for Shadow Milk and kindness. It made Shadow Milk extremely uncomfortable. How dare he just barge into his space like that? At this point, he was convincing himself that he didn’t even care if Pure Vanilla ate food that night. That was a lie. Merely just him trying to use his own trickery on himself.
“You..” Shadow Milk then suddenly pushed Pure Vanilla away abruptly, calling a halt to this stupid comfort. “YOU ARE SO INTRUSIVE! YOU ARE SO DISGUSTING!!! Back then… When you said all that to me… IM DONE WITH TRYING TO CONVINCE MYSELF IT PERHAPS WASN’T JUST A BIG LIE! YOU SLIP THROUGH THE CRACKS ONCE, JUST ONCE, LIKE HOW YOU DID BACK THEN…. AND NOW YOU PRETEND YOU KNOW AND UNDERSTAND IT ALL!!!”
“COOKIES LIKE YOU ARE THE MOST DISGUSTING!!” Shadow Milk yelled, not in the right state of mind to even process anything going on. Today had been perfectly fine, amazing, even. But even just a slip up like this could cause a great fall. Did Shadow Milk really wanna be seen as….This? This great monster, who you have to walk on eggshells all around until you can even start to form a strong enough relationship….?
He ran out of the room, eyes in his hair breaking into tears and an unfufilled need to get away from Pure Vanilla and the Vanilla Kingdom as soon as possible. But deep down, he knew that there was a feeling. A feeling that would fill him with immense dread once he realized he would have banished himself from the own kingdom he secretly now loved, not knowing that Pure Vanilla would welcome him back any time.
He would regret that decision sooner or later.
So instead, he simply chose to run off to his own room, get under the covers, and try to act as if nothing had ever happened. As simple and easy as that. He would never have to bring it up again, he would not have to be watched or have sharp objects taken away from his reach.. He would just be able to do whatever he wants, as he pleases. Thats what the beast of deceit does. Lies and lies, trickery and trickery, and a overwhelming sense of need for control, for power.
And thats exactly what Shadow Milk Cookie convinced himself he would have.
- . . .
“….Bluebird.” Shadow Milk had been in the garden of white lilies, admiring them closely. He didn’t find any interest in them, but it was as if he was trying to study them in order to get why Pure Vanilla cares about them so much. He assumed it was because of White Lily Cookie herself. Pure Vanillas voice was heard by Shadow Milk, but went unnoticed or ignored because of what happened the day before.
“I wanted to say… Im sorry. I didn’t mean to intrude in on your space without proper permission. I was…being stubborn, and ignorant. Please forgive me. All i want to do is understand you and make you feel like you’re able to trust me freely. I never meant to cause you any harm.” Pure Vanillas voice was gentle. Calm, patient, and had a slight tint of romance. That was always there though, nowadays. Because Pure Vanilla was in love with him. And Shadow Milk was in love with him too.
Pure Vanilla rested his hand on Shadow Milks shoulder, being soft with his touch. In truth, Shadow Milk had wanted to apologize, but didn’t want to give him an impression that it would be a frequent thing, and he also didn’t want to let his guard down that quickly, that easily. But it pained him to hold such big things in.
It pained him a lot.
“….Pure Vanilla…” Shadow Milk glanced at him for a second, before fully turning his head to stare at him.
“….Apology accepted. I guess.” He looked away immediately. Was he embarrassed? Still a bit shy after all that? None of them know. And he was still hesitant to actually show his true self, to show that it wasn’t just an ‘i guess.’ He fully accepted the apology, and wanted to apologize himself as well.
He glanced back at Pure Vanilla for a second time, only to find Pure Vanilla still staring at him. “Gee, Nilly! Do you ever stop staring?” Pure Vanilla only chuckled at his words, and Shadow Milk finds himself not being able to say any more before he is pulled into a deep embrace. His eyes widen and he tenses up, before he finally loosens up. This is Probably the least of what he expected. He never quite returns the hug, but he allows it. It felt warm, kind, and comforting. It felt like it was another way of Pure Vanilla saying 'Im here for you if you ever need anything.'
And this almost brought tears to Shadow Milks eyes.
The moment might have been more short-lived than he thought, but it felt like it lasted forever. Pure Vanillas servants requested him to follow them to the solarium of unity based on news about the upcoming war, and he hesitantly agreed, leaving Shadow Milk behind.
Pure Vanilla gave him a quick kiss on the cheek, smiling, before standing up and walking away quickly to catch up with his servants, which caught Shadow Milk off guard. Staring at him as he walked off, he felt more love for him than before.
Just how long would this love last before it was crushed to pieces by Dark Enchantress Cookie?
- . . .
"Pure Vanilla Cookie, we have aquired these letters for you. They are directed to you, your majesty. Some of them have hidden code language in them, which we suspect to be from Dark Enchantress Cookie or the beasts... One of them we were able to successfully translate, but the rest of them...Seem like complete gibberish to us. Even with the help of Strawberry Crepe Cookie and their wafflebots new translation system, It just cant be deciphered." The workers speak in a calm yet worried tone. They know that there is little time left, and want to help Pure Vanilla in the best way they can.
"....I see. What were the contents of the letter that was able to be translated?" Pure Vanilla strikes all the good questions, speaking in a calm and firm voice as well. He feels reluctant to say that he too is worried.
"Well...Hmm..It is quite long, so i suppose i can just sum it up for you, if thats alright, Your Majesty." The servants clears their throat before speaking once more.
"It describes the date of the war..Which if i say so myself, it is pretty important, so I am glad we were able to translate this one thoroughly. It says that the first battle will be in the Dark Cacao Kingdom, which will take place on January 11th, 1/11.... And the second battle is here, in the Vanilla Kingdom, on february 22nd, 2/22. These are the most important contents regarding our kingdom, as the rest is a bunch of nonsense except for the other battle dates."
....
Harmony, balance, and trust.
These are all essential things that are almost required in order to have a beautiful relationship with someone close to you. It is truly beautiful what love can do to a person. And as much as love can be a beautiful thing, it can also be a great spawn of regrets. Regrets that you can never take back, that will linger with you forever and ever.
It is all worth it to see what kind of person you become in the end. Will you still love them? Maybe, maybe not. whats matters most is that you had that connection, and that you've grown and learned from it. And in the end, one of the things Pure Vanilla has learned so far....
He cant take his mind off Shadow Milk for one second.
Even when its relating back to the upcoming war about to happen, he cant help but think about all the ways he can protect not only his kingdom, but Shadow Milk as well. Him and the kingdom are the most important things to Pure Vanilla, and in his eyes, are even more important than Pure Vanilla himself.
All of the sudden, Pure Vanilla snapped back into reality. "Ah... I see, I suppose that we will need to prepare for that day then....And please, do the best you can with translating those letters. We never know if it may have some important contents. Though..Please do also make sure to take care of yourselves and such. I wouldnt want you all to be overworking yourselves and being stressed out over the importance of this battle. I am sure that we will win and live on in great success, nonetheless." Pure Vanilla smiled warmly at the workers, who both Pure Vanilla and the workers had been accompanied by guards the entire time.
They all smiled back, grabbing the untranslated letters and taking them in for further inspection. If it was truly just gibberish, it would have proved to be a simple waste of time, and a waste of resources as well. He hopes theres some actual meaning in trying so hard to translate these. None of them can even tell what some of the letters are, and the clock is ticking. Time is running out by the second.
And yet... Shadow Milk Cookie isn't going anywhere. And it seems hes been behind the walls of the solarium of unity this entire time, listening in. As the former Cookie of Knowledge, it was only natural he still wanted to know absolutely everything.
"Shadow Milk?" Pure Vanilla stepped out of the solarium, immediately noticing him.
Shadow Milk was unaware that he would notice him so quickly, and didnt even see him come out, so he jumped a little bit.
"Ah..! Nilly! I was just trying to see what you guys are talking about. Some letters unable to be deciphered, hmm?~ Seems like this former Cookie of Knowledge is here to your aid! I must say, though, I am quite hurt that you didnt immediately think to come ask me to help out." Shadow Milk quickly explains his stalking presence, still keeping his somewhat playful personality.
"I suppose you could help, considering you probably would know the hidden symbols and such...I think I would be too concerned about if you would lie to us about what it says just the shock value, though. Does seem like something you would do, eh?" Pure Vanilla chuckles right after finishing his words, to which Shadow Milk puts a show on expressing his horribly shocked and hurt emotions.
"Wow...How DARE you! Suppose you didnt need my help after all, Im gonna just go and torment those annoying townspeople again, then!~" Shadow Milks hums in a sing song tone while walking away, to which Pure Vanilla has a blank expression in response. his lips crack into a soft smile, with that absolutely annoying patient and kind look again. Ugh.
"...OH, and dont forget about your little preformance, either! Dont attempt to kiss me just to catch me off-guard, alright?!" Pure Vanilla walked closer to Shadow Milk once he stops in his tracks. "I didnt kiss you to purposely catch you off-guard. I kissed you because I wanted to." He calmly replies, smiling once more, shutting his eyes happily as well. Shadow Milks face is rather shocked.
"You...You...!" Shadow Milk didnt know what to say in response. Pure Vanilla awaited his reply patiently, fluttering his eyes open once more. "....Can it be my turn now?" Shadow Milk asked, but it was rather something to prepare Pure Vanilla than an actual request.
Pure Vanilla nodded softly, and to which Shadow Milk leaned in, swinging his arms around Pure Vanillas head and neck gently as he floats. Their lips were brought into a deep kiss, them both closing their eyes in enjoyment. This had been the first kiss they share on the lips together. And to both, it was certainly romantic and full of passion and happiness. The enbodiments of truth and deceit, sharing such an intimate and romantic moment like this, together...It lifted all their pains and worries, even if just for a few seconds.
It was only about a minute, but it felt like the kiss had lasted hours.
- . . .
Shadow Milks door was always locked, no matter what. Perhaps it was a symbolic way into his feelings of how he always keeps his true emotions locked away behind his facade, but whatever it was, Pure Vanilla just could not figure it out.
The only way he would even be allowed in was when he patiently knocked and waited. The few instances where he was allowed in, he noticed several little things that he still felt carried deep meaning.
The roses never die. the dark red and blue roses that he had planted around his room, using magic to make them grow faster, would just never die. The complexity between their growth and their creators own layers were present.
Shadow Milk no longer knew what he wanted, and perhaps he hasn’t known in a long time.
A group of multiple masks scattered across his desk semi-neatly, masks that look like they would be used for attending masquerade balls or operas.
His jester hat, sitting on his nightstand. Very typical and Shadow Milk-like, to which Pure Vanilla should’ve known.
Shadow Milk is always performing a show.
And last, there were always shadows lurking in the dark, whether the lights were on or off. Yet another thing typical for ‘Shadow’ Milk Cookie.
“..Shadow Milk?” He said faintly, firmly knocking on the door. Shadow Milk left in a hurry to the markets after their little romantic moment earlier, stating he “had somewhere to be.” Pure Vanilla just assumed it was him trying to hide his flustered face, which was very clear and out in the open.
It is now past evening, and he is yet to return. It is almost midnight, actually.
Silence. He has not returned yet. Pure Vanilla was starting to get worried, wondering if something could have possibly happened to him. Though, he tried to reassure himself that it was probably nothing.
As if on cue, the shadows began to form, and someone emerged. Shadow Milk Cookie. His face was cold and darkened, and it didn’t take long before Pure Vanilla noticed he was almost soaking wet.
“Oh…Shadow Milk. I thought you weren't going to return any time soon…Did you have a nice time out? It’s pretty late at night, I suppose you should get some rest. But..was it raining? I didn't even notice…” Pure Vanilla looked at him gently, with concern twinkling in his eyes as well.
“It was raining, actually. Turns out it was a thunderstorm, too. And I certainly did not expect to meet one of… Dark Enchantress Cookies minions outside of the kingdom while I was on my outing. Just a fantastic experience to my day.”
Shadow Milks eyes were harsh, and so was his tone of voice. His voice was cold and flat, and it sent a slight shiver down Pure Vanillas spine. He didn't expect for him to be in such a bad mood.
“…Is that so. Well…Are you hurt? Did anything happen? We should alert the guards and soldiers right away. Though..It is quite unusual that Dark Enchantress already has her minions coming to our kingdom. The letter said we were the second kingdom they are going after, so I wonder…”
Pure Vanilla was lost in thought for a second, before snapping back to reality quickly. He could tell that Shadow Milk had been injured, and felt a sense of guilt.
“And also, how did you see them if you were only going for an outing in the markets? Not that I'm suspicious of anything, of course, but I'm just curious.”
“Witches forbid a man wants to take a little detour? Also, I think you need to use your head and think for a moment. Those letters could obviously be just a bunch of lies to catch us off guard. It seems like you're not exactly striking the good questions, Nilly. Shouldn't you know this after living with the master of deceit for these past few months?”
Shadow Milks words cut even deeper than before. Pure Vanilla knew he didn’t exactly mean to be that harsh, but couldn't help but reveal his sorrowful and guilty expression even more, but he hid it quickly. He cut off eye contact with Shadow Milk, feeling like it was his fault that Shadow Milk was hurt and that Dark Enchantress minions have gone unnoticed.
“Im…sorry. I suppose I should have been on more alert. I’ll alert the guards and Black Raisin Cookie immediately. I..didn't know that she would be making a move so quickly, especially when we've not had much time to prepare at all, besides the council meetings and such…”
“Yeah? Well, for the time being, I'm just going to be in my room. I just don't want to talk for the rest of the night. Move out of my way.”
Shadow Milk obviously held no care for Pure Vanillas words at the moment. He knew it wasn’t his fault, and didn’t want him to feel like it was at all, but he couldn’t help but feel angry. He never wanted Pure Vanilla to feel guilty.
“Wait, just let me heal your wounds first. It’ll only take a moment, I promise.”
His expression of guilt was more evident and finally went noticed by Shadow Milk the second he glanced back at him, to which his eyes flickered with pity.
“…Fine. Make it quick.”
Pure Vanilla worked quickly, healing his wounds with care and love. His healing magic has always been amazing. Shadow Milk started to feel bad, but didn't want to act like he could be so quick to back down, instead deciding to sulk to himself.
“There you go. I'm sorry again, I truly am. Please get some rest.”
Pure Vanilla smiled softly, keeping his horridly patient gaze, which Shadow Milk scoffed at, before he floated through the door, almost as if he was melting into it.
Pure Vanilla stared at the door for a few long seconds more, before finally turning his back to go alert the guards of the intruder. Afterwards, he decided it was quite late, and needed to get some rest for himself, making his leave to his own room.
His head rested softly on his pillow. He had kept the room tidy, but it still felt like there were so many locks and keys missing. All this paperwork. All these meetings… It was too much. He understood that this was all crucial in order to properly prepare and protect his kingdom unlike last time, but he couldn't help but feel extremely hopeless at times.
He had failed to protect his kingdom in the Dark Flour war, and he most likely wasn't going to be able to protect his kingdom this time too. And it's not just that, but he also has failed his friends, his people, and most importantly… This time he would now have to protect his lover as well.
He felt a tear streak down his cheek, but he payed it no mind as it soaked into the pillow below him.
He had indeed felt so much guilt this entire time, yet he knew it only strained him. If he continued to suffer by himself and not pay attention to the upcoming war, as well as protecting everything he cares about, it would only end in despair and regret.
He had wanted to die at times, but it was merely just a lie he had fed to himself. He had wanted to live. He just didn't feel like he deserved or was allowed to, after seeing all those poor children not able to become adults, all those poor souls, with no home to return to…And it was all his fault.
He needed to move forward, no matter what it takes. He needs to help the people he loves.
And that is exactly what he is going to do— Be the role model everyone admires.
When you cant hold onto anything, hold on to yourself. If you cant do that, hold onto the people around you. But never give up, because there is a most likely chance you will regret it in the near future, especially when that time does come.
Perhaps this is how Shadow Milk had felt all those years he was the fount of knowledge, this overwhelming sense of purpose, this need to fufill said purpose. At least before he bit into the apple of deciet, the first sin....
He loves Shadow Milk dearly, and never wants to let him go. Even in hard moments like this, where it feels like all is disaster and life is a rollercoaster of emotions...
Maybe, love will persist. Maybe.
- . . .
A bright green scenery. A meadow, filled with flowers, varying in colors, with lots of sheep aswell, scattered around as the grass hits Pure Vanillas soft dough gently. He opened his eyes slowly, unaware of how or when he had gotten here. He wasnt even quite sure where exactly he was.
But it was calm, and peaceful. The complete opposite of how reality had felt lately, in terms of atmosphere and the attitude of others. Everyone had been so anxious, even if they didnt show it. Even if they didnt reveal it, even if they kept it hidden and locked away. It was always there. It was as if it could be sensed in every single person you meet, whether its a stranger at the markets, to the ancient Pure Vanilla Cookie himself...
Shutting his eyes once again, breathing deeply and calmly, yet slowly; Pure Vanilla Cookie soaked in this moment for as long as he could. This was the break he had needed all this time. But, the fact is, theres nobody to blame but himself. Everyone had encouraged him to take breaks as much as could, whether it was Hollyberry Cookie or Shadow Milk Cookie, yet he never allowed himself to.
He completely did this to himself.
However, he didnt want to face that right now, in the scenery hes currently in. This might be the only actual time he can rest quietly, with no disturbances. No guilt. No politics. Just pure bliss.
"...Haha, you sure do sleep a lot, dont you?" Pure Vanilla eyes shot back open, looking around quickly to identitfy the person who carried his own voice. It didnt take long, since he was quite literally standing right in front of him. Well, he actually seemed to be floating, but Pure Vanilla Cookie couldnt really tell due to his impaired vision. Its always been a hassle.
It was his past self, right in front of him. His smile was warm and full of nurture.
"....What are you doing here?...I didnt know there anyone even present here.....And certainly not you." Pure Vanilla Cookie had been so focused on finally trying to rest that he forgot he was whispering extremely quietly. Its almost a miracle that his past self could even pick up what he saying, if he could even hear it at all.
"Me? Well, im actually quite confused on what you are doing here, hehe. Ive always been here, taming and helping these beautiful sheep. You seem to be a sleeper, though, right? You seemed pretty deep in sleep, but i guess you mustve never even been asleep at all. Silly me..."
He carried almost the same personality as his old self, too.
"...Theres no way you're real." Pure Vanilla stated more firmly, starting to figure some things out. The world could never be this quiet. Usually, the Vanilla Kingdom was so quiet, silent even, except for when the markets were extremely crowded. But now..Everything loud and excruciating has disappeared. This cant be real.
"Oh? haha...im afraid you might have it a bit mixed up. Though...You look like youre from the future. And tell me, my personality has certainly altered a bit. Did Shadow Milk really influence you that much?"
Pure Vanilla paused.
"How do you...Know about him?"
"..Well, you see...My personality is quite different from your 'past self' you were expecting, correct? Well, little one... I suppose...I am not an actual being in this world. And I am not exactly your 'past self' either. I am all that you have contained since you have ever even existed."
Pure Vanilla was now really confused. Everything felt faker than before.
".....What..?"
"I, am you. You know that much. But... I am the past, present, and future. I am omniprescent. I have seen all there is to you..."
Pure Vanillas old self rested his hands on Pure Vanillas shoulder, floating upward, above him."
"Every single sad moment, every single happy moment, every ounce of destruction... Whether its happening right now, from decades ago, or even in the future. That is why my personality is so different. Its...perhaps every single one of your personalitys you've ever even had."
Pure Vanilla had a million questions, all racing through his mind at once. Nauseating. He was lost deep in thought for a minute, but was brought straight back to reality once his past selfs hands had gotten warmer. The sunlight was hitting them, even if they were under the shade of a tree.
"...What happens in the future?"
His old self was certainly caught by surprise at such a question.
"I...Cant tell you that, I am sorry. Lots of things could go wrong in revealing that kind of information, and...I dont want you to be feeling anxious trying to fix and control something that is inevitable. I would have been digging your grave even sooner if I did that." Pure Vanillas old self had a saddened expression, but he was still kind and calm. Just as Pure Vanilla had expected, besides the mash of personalitys, of course.
"...I see. Can I at least know what to call you, then?"
"..I know you’ve already went by this name before, but I suppose you can just call me Future Healer Cookie."
He took a noticeable pause before continuing.
"Since I have all of your personalities together... The only thing that really stays in between every single one is the fact you're a healer, but i’m from the future too. Makes sense, right?"
Pure Vanilla nodded, before looking away to observe the scenery once more. Such a weird world. He had now expected its fake by now, but...He cant help but wonder if this still has some sort of connection to the real world. As much as he did want to know about the future, Future Healer Cookie was right. He would just bring more pain upon himself while he tries to fix something inevitable and out of his control. It was in his best interest to perhaps not look for the future so soon.
"....Future Healer Cookie. Please, do enlighten me. Can...Can I be loved?"
Future Healer Cookie gave it no thought before answering.
"Of course you can!"
"....Will I be loved?"
Now this, this caught Future Healer Cookie in a chokehold for a few seconds. This required thought, even if he already knew the answer. "How similar to the Fount of Knowledge," Pure Vanilla thought to himself quietly.
Future Healer Cookie sat down in front of where Pure Vanilla now sat, and he extended his arms to place his warm hands back on Pure Vanillas shoulders yet again, followed by a patient and kind smile.
"You already are loved."
Pure Vanillas eyes twinkled in the sunlight as he stared at Future Healer Cookie. The sun was warm, and so was his dough. Future Healer Cookies smile and nurturing gaze never faltered. It stayed for as long as it could, allowing Pure Vanilla to bask in this feeling and soak it in for as long as he wanted. The moment was magnetic.
Pure Vanilla felt a tear slide down his cheek, to which he fluttered his eyes shut. Not only did he feel at peace here, but the words he has heard have brought him to peace as well. Future Healer Cookie was effulgent, and so was Shadow Milk, his friends, his kingdom....Pure Vanilla finally knows what he truly wants. Peace and love for every cookie. He might have already knew this, but at no other moment has he felt it this much before.
You already are loved.
Perhaps thats what he has been longing to hear this entire time.
Future Healer Cookies grabbed both of Pure Vanillas hands and placed it in his gently, treating him with care.
”You..You have always been loved, for a very, very long time, Pure Vanilla Cookie. And…Even after all the ones you love have gone..Their love for you will still remain in their very souls. I am sure of it.”
”So…Next time you feel like the actions in the Dark Flour war or anything else were your fault, and you deserve to feel this immense pain and misery for what you have done wrong… Please, remember this. Cherish it in your heart forever.”
Future Healer Cookies voice was soft and tender, quieter than earlier. He knew the past and the future both, and had been experiencing it all at the exact time for as long as Pure Vanilla had been alive.
It was an extremely difficult concept to grasp, yet he fully understood.
There is nothing holding Pure Vanilla Cookie back. And surely, as long as Future Healer Cookie was here and well, Pure Vanilla Cookie would be too. It ensured a hopeful and safe future for both of them.
“Thank you.”
The sunlight gleamed into their eyes, to which Pure Vanillas Soul-Jam also began to glow, along with a soothing humming that brought him peace. It seemed as if the sun glowed all around them, locking them into a warm reunion with Pure Vanillas past and future self.
There is lots of things to learn and do for Pure Vanilla Cookie, As well as there is lots of things he needs to prepare for. Life isn’t always easy, and in the end, his dough will bleed…But it would all be worth it.
The only last thing he needs to do here is thank Future Healer Cookie once again.
Thank you, Future Healer Cookie.
Thank you.
- . . .
The morning was sunny, the clouds that set the scene of a gloomy and dark moment last night have gone away. Pure Vanillas face was unusually sweaty, and turns out that it was just a dream.
But it wasnt. That was all real, but he had perhaps just fallen into a cover up. It presented itself while he was asleep merely so he would believe its a dream, but if it truly knew Pure Vanilla Cookie, then it should know that Pure Vanilla is not the type to be easily fooled. Future Healer Cookies words- they would probably live on with him forever. Something important, words that should never be let go. Words that simply just cant be let go.
You already are loved.
Shadow Milk surely had to still be fast asleep, as the castle was quiet.
And just like that occurence he had with Future Healer Cookie, it was warm too. It felt oddly comforting, in a sense. His Soul-Jam hummed again at the thought of that and Shadow Milk Cookie, a reminder that he truly cherishes the one he loves the most deeply. Even if they did have their ups and downs, They were sure to keep going until the end. The future is unknown, but as long as they keep on loving eachother like this, maybe, just maybe...
Maybe just their love alone could defeat all evil.
Pure Vanilla still wanted to make up for what he did last night, even knowing now that it wasn't entirely his fault. He still held guilt deep in heart, and always apologized for the silliest and smallest of things. Though, not much things could please Shadow Milk Cookie these days, unless you took him to do something he really enjoyed, or an intimate scenario. He certainly did like kisses, but that would surely not be able to make up for the mistakes Pure Vanilla has made.
There was really nothing he could do, so he started with the small things first, such as bringing him breakfast.
Pure Vanilla had gotten out of bed rather quickly, brushing his loose strands of hair to the side and out of his face quickly, holding a hairbrush in his other hand. He splashed water on his face, patting it dry with a soft towel to wake himself up. He still looked pretty tired, but one night of good sleep was not going to fix that. Not after all those nights that came and went, him staying up wide awake until his candle was burned to a stump.
He walked down the stairs calmly, but quicker than usual. He was eager to talk to Shadow Milk Cookie again after that 'dream', and even the servants could notice something in him had spiked a large amount of energy in him as he greeted them rather quickly as well. He would usually take a second or two at least ask about how their day had been going so far, even if it had just begun for most.
Breakfast was served quite fast, to Pure Vanillas surprise. They must have noticed that he wanted to do something quickly, but they didn't know what. Grabbing the breakfast on the counter, He calmly walked back up the stairs, careful not to accidentally trip. They had made pancakes today, exquisite and divine as always. Fluffy and soft, along with an exceedingly sweet taste. Always coated with syrup, topped off with strawberries, blueberries, and some whipped cream. It was actually Pure Vanillas favorite, which is why he always liked to admire the great amount of detail and thought put into it.
Two faint knocks. He seemed more nervous than last time, yesterday night, which he had knocked firmly.
About thirty seconds have passed, and Pure Vanilla was scared to knock again, in case he was potentially disturbing Shadow Milk. "....Shadow Milk Cookie?"
He decided to try just this once, and twisted the door handle tightly. To his immediate shock, Shadow Milks door was not locked this time. It was confusing on why he would decide to unlock it this specific time, especially when the previous nights atmosphere was cold and hostile, laced with cruelty.
“…”
“I brought you breakfast.”
Pure Vanilla Cookie stood in the doorway, not saying anything until being acknowledged silently by Shadow Milk. He was sitting on his bed, turned away from the door and his face out of Pure Vanillas view.
A nod slowly followed.
“Shadow Milk Cookie… I wanted to say I’m sorry. for being so ignorant about those minions, I mean. I didn’t mean for you to be hurt, so please do forgive me.”
Shadow Milk turned his head to look at Pure Vanilla, before standing up and walking over to him. He came to a halt right in front of him, before putting both of his hands on his shoulder as if he was going to shake out all of the guilt burning inside of him.
”Why are you apologizing? My beloved other-half, I must say, for someone who isnt even close to being on the same level of greatness for a show maker as I am, you quite know how to get the show going! I just had to give the credit!”
Compared to last night, he seemed way more light hearted. He of course still had his serious and gloomy-sounding voice as he always does, but he seemed genuinely happier.
It brought happiness to Pure Vanilla as well.
“Ehe…I just was trying to nice, as usual.”
Shadow Milk pulled Pure Vanilla slightly into the room.
”Do you want to eat together?”
Shadow Milk usually was not the one to ask such things, but Pure Vanilla agreed immediately, even if he did hesitate just a tiny bit due to surprise. He would be the one asking that question, to which Shadow Milk always disagreed, for whatever reasons he had.
“Sure. Thats what I had in mind anyway.”
“….Well, you know that it’s not really eating together if you don’t have any food for yourself. And I’m surely not sharing!”
Pure Vanilla understood what he was hinting at, and didn’t know whether he felt slightly embarrassed or just exposed in a way.
“Oh…How could I forget? ..haha…I’ll be right back, Shadow Milk. Give me a second.” He smiled happily and polite as he turned his head, hanging around in the door way again while he spoke. He was happy that Shadow Milk would even ask such a thing, especially after all this time.
Perhaps Future Healer Cookie was right.
He walked quickly down to the stairs, gripping the railing trying not to miss any steps like last time. His servants were probably wondering why he had been in such a rush this entire morning, even if he was shown to be relaxed and calm as well.
Just as Shadow Milks servants noticed his unusual happiness, Pure Vanillas servants did as well. He was always cheery and eager to greet his servants, but recently he’s been even happier than usual, even though Shadow Milk had been living in the Vanilla Kingdom for the past few months.
Shadow Milk and Pure Vanilla both enjoyed the time they were spending with each other, each understanding one another like no one else. They both enjoyed their kisses, and every time they saw each other, its like as if they were made to be together.
Soulmates.
Pure Vanilla was more swift, and he had already gotten the food for himself. He wasn’t sure how much he would be able to eat of it before he would get a terribly sick feeling even though it’s his favorite, but it cant be helped.
Shadow Milk hadn’t started eating already. Seems that he had been waiting for Pure Vanilla to come back, which he took note of happily. It’s certainly not polite to start eating when you’re waiting for someone else.
It was relatively silent despite the happiness and warmth filling both the room and their souls, but they still enjoyed each others company, of course.
Pure Vanilla started to feel a bit sick after a few bites, and resorted to observing Shadow Milk and his beauty instead. His hair, his eyes, his clothes, his face….There mustn’t be a single existing thing in the world that can even come close to his level of beauty and handsomeness.
He didn’t intend to break the silence himself, but it was too difficult to resist.
”You look nice.” He said faint and briefly, staring up at Shadow Milk. He had been sitting on the floor, while Shadow Milk had been sitting on a chair. Shadow Milk was always taller than him anyway.
Shadow Milk glanced at Pure Vanilla for a second as he spoke, swallowing a bite out of the pancakes he had received. Afterwards, it instead turned into staring as well. Both felt like their other-half was equally as captivating.
”You look beautiful.” He responded back briefly as well. He certainly knew how to make someone feel comfortable.
.....
"Thank you."
Pure Vanilla was flustered by the interaction, face starting to burn slightly red. There was no words for both him and Shadow Milk to say, just as there was no words to express how calm and pristine the room feels, despite the slight tension in the air now. Was saying even just those three words a mistake?
Never.
As the Cookie of Truth, all that he needed to do was...Spread the simple truth, even if to the Cookie of Deceit.
However, he wasn't sure whether that title was fitting for Shadow Milk anymore.
It surely took a few weeks until Shadow Milk even started warming up to Pure Vanilla and the Vanilla Kingdom, but he is still yet to allow himself to be fully vunerable. It took months just to even get to where their relationship stands right now, and only recently has romantic undertones been lingering around in the air.
Though, after bathing together and being that intimate... Perhaps it was wrong to say its just been lingering. It had also only been an undertone for most of their interactions, such as right now. Stating otherwise would be plain ignorant.
And thats the complete opposite of the both of them. Yes, they both admired each other for their beauty...But beauty also tends to lie deep inside as well. Shadow Milk is quite the intelligent one, much to be expected after being the former Fount of Knowledge. His smart and strategic mind intrigued Pure Vanilla, and it also grew an even deeper need for connection with Shadow Milk too.
Pure Vanilla was kind to everyone, was usually good at communicating, and always did his best for others. Truth be told, Shadow Milk actually hated it at first. He could never understand just how anyone could be that nice. Whenever he spied on Pure Vanilla from the dark side of the moon, he always scoffed in disbelief seeing the pure kindness he gives to others.
He found it unfair that someone like him had done so much good for the world, and supposedly still has always been doing good for the world in his corrupted mindset, could be treated so cruelly. Thrown away like an old toy, just another thing to be glanced at and discarded like nothing. They trapped him in that tree for so long, despite him just following his own path instead of the one picked out specifically for him from the very beginning. He had no childhood, no previous memories, no family, just a purpose that he had to fufill right away. But when he finally rebeled, he was sealed away. When he finally felt an ounce of freedom for once, even if he still had to bear the immense loneliness.
It’s as if his life had been over before it even began.
Another truth to be said, he had been getting rather used to Pure Vanillas kindness, even cherishing it in secret, actually. He found beauty in that, and even with his corrupted mind, it even allowed him to feel like he did truly seek to be a better cookie. He denied all feelings of it, but in his heart, the feelings were very clear and out in the open, as clear as a polished diamond glimmering in the sun.
And just as both Pure Vanilla and Shadow Milk said themselves all those months ago,
Pure Vanilla could look into his heart.
".....You seemed to be in a bad mood last night, have you felt any better? I am guessing so." Pure Vanilla decided to ask the very question that has been in his mind for the entire time, though he was a bit nervous to ask in contrast to his previous statement.
"As someone who very much does hates to speak it, to tell the truth, I really dont think you shouldve felt so guilty. I wouldve warmed up eventually, just as I am now. Why stress so much about it if its already over?"
..
"I suppose I just didnt want you to feel so gloomy again, like you did back in the spire. And...I realized some things when I went to sleep last night." Pure Vanilla was honest, not backing down from his truth. He did not tell this to Shadow Milk out of pity, but rather just a sense of understanding and love, yet again.
"What did you realize?"
Shadow Milk got straight to the point, just as Pure Vanilla expected.
"Well...One of the most important things, specifically regarding you...Is that we truly do belong with each other."
"I know I've said this before, but, both of us understand each other like no one else can. And, perhaps...We really are soulmates. Star-crossed lovers, to be exact. But I feel like we can change this fate, of not being able to truly be together. As long as we keep moving foward, forever, one step at a time.... We might just be bound from that day on, even if its never perfect."
Shadow Milk listened closely, providing his undivided attention to Pure Vanilla at all times. In his eyes, its as if there were bright, radiant sparks and flashes of hope. A genuine and honest feeling of hope emerged within his soul, and he knew that the Hero of Truth felt it immediately. There was no reason for Shadow Milk to hide his worries about the upcoming war, him and Pure Vanillas destiny together, and just what the future lies in all.
Pure Vanilla had practically seen the future, and yet he still had no idea what awaits him.
But whatever it is, he knew the best thing to do was keep it close, to cradle it in his arms, and never let it go. Perhaps learning the truth about the future wasnt needed so soon, and whatever good is lying for him will surely come to him as he waits patiently.
Theres simply no need to be in a rush.
He and Shadow Milk still have lots of interactions to go through, lots of love to conquer. Its better to let them come through naturally and see how all this plays out.
In the end, they're just cookies.
Cookies don’t need to rely on such a cruel fate.
“..I was wondering if you would also like to go to the lake not far from beneath the kingdom today as well, Shadow Milk. Just for some more time to tell you what I think is important.”
Shadow Milks expression softened slightly, keeping its neutral state. He agreed silently, nodding his head faintly.
Pure Vanilla awkwardly looked back down at the floor, avoiding eye contact.
“Also, Im sorry for not telling you this sooner, but a few days ago I got a letter about a meeting in the council, and its going to be between the Vanilla Kingdom, the creme republic, and my friends kingdoms too. I just wanted to let you know in advance in case you were surprised.”
“Im not even sure if they’re going to trust me. Can I just stay in my room the entire day then?”
Pure Vanillas gaze returned back to Shadow Milk, with a soft and polite appearance.
“I do not request for you to do anything. You are free to do as you like, whether you want to join in or not. Though, I suppose I should have expected you to feel that way… Im sure they will trust my words of what i say of you anyway.”
Pure Vanilla enjoyed occasionally writing letters keeping updates on the latest news and such to his friends, and some of that also included Shadow Milk. He didn’t want them to get any worse impression of him, so he made sure to leave any ‘bad’ aspect of him in there subtly.
“I am done eating now..Once you are ready, you can just find me in my room. I’ll try not to be occupied so It doesn’t feel like you’re interfering with anything I’m doing.”
He had only taken about 6 bites. Shadow Milk wasn’t sure how to confront it, but he still wanted to help him. The difficult question, was how?
And with that, Pure Vanilla stood up and walked to the door in his graceful manner yet again. At this point, Shadow Milk has just assumed thats how he naturally is. He took a few quick looks back at Shadow Milk for a moment, before the only sound present in the room was silence followed by a click of the door shutting.
Shadow Milk Cookie wasn’t entirely amazing at his feelings, or just even helping others with their emotions either. Confrontation was his thing, but not in that sort of way.
The best he could was just sit there in silence, long after he had already gone.
- . . .
Two knocks, and a faint “come in.” before Shadow Milk had already opened the door, scanning the room for Pure Vanilla. He had been sitting at this desk, just as usual.
“If it’s alright, we can do that lake thing you were talking about. Ive actually been bored out of my mind, I just didn’t want to have to go through these excruciatingly long hallways.”
His little remark had earned a chuckle from Pure Vanilla, in a good mood. He smiled at Shadow Milk softly, to which Shadow Milk at that point couldn’t look away.
“Sure! I just need to fix myself up real quick, heh…Please just give me a few seconds.” Pure Vanillas tone was happy, and his smile was warm. Shadow Milk wondered what got him so cheery as Pure Vanilla stood, walking to the bathroom.
”Alright, but you better hurry up, because i’ve already gotten to three seconds and you’re going as slow as possible, slug.” He teased lightly. Yet another giggle.
It made Shadow Milk feel happier as well.
Though, it wasnt really something he was used to just yet. He'd always been so sadistic and cruel towards others after his corruption from the former Fount of Knowledge to the new Beast of Deceit. But at this point, he couldn't tell whether he had been the Fount of Knowledge longer or the Beast of Deceit.
It actually surprisingly felt nice, feeling happy whenever others were happy. It was a sweet feeling he almost refused to accept.
Pure Vanilla was quick, almost as if he was in a hurry. Turns out all that he means by 'fixing himself up' is splashing water on your face and patting it down with a towel. He supposes fixing hair could maybe be included in that as well. Shadow Milks rountine was surely more productive and time taking.
The walk to the lake was a bit farther than Pure Vanilla had stated, but it still wasn't very long. They had been silent to each other the entire time, taking a fresh breath of air after being in that kindom wandering around all the time. The strong scent of vanilla had finally gone away, for the most part at least. With Pure Vanilla right beside him, there was no escaping it. However, it was faint which made it easier to endure.
He was happy just to be close with someone who could really understand him on a deeper level.
Once they had arrived, they both looked for a place smooth and comfortable to sit. The breeze was cool and felt nice, to which Shadow Milks skin began to feel more refreshed despite being slightly dry.
The water was relaxing and was a bit still due to there being no disruptions.
“..Pure Vanilla Cookie. You said you wanted to come here to talk about the important things, so I would like to hear the most important of them all.”
Pure Vanilla continued to stare at the water with a neutral expression as Shadow Milks stared at him attentively.
“I suppose you already do know what I meant, hah…Well..”
Pure Vanilla awkwardly glanced to the side, as if a tiny bit nervous.
“With Dark Enchantress Cookie, I…I alerted the guards right after you went into your room about that minion lurking around, and now were all obviously contemplating if the letters even speak the truth…Just as you said that day. But to full honesty, I actually still don’t really know absolutely everything going on. I don’t know where the rest of the beasts stand in this at all, and its starting to all blur in my mind just as I speak of it…”
He seemed a bit disheartened, which aroused Shadow Milk ever so slightly.
“The beasts are on Dark Enchantress Cookies side, as expected.” Shadow Milks blurted out almost immediately.
Pure Vanilla turned his head to face Shadow Milk Cookie with a somewhat surprised look, intrigued with curiosity. He seemed to be thinking for a second, before his face returned back to its original state upon meeting a conclusion.
“Oh, right. I should have expected you would know, considering you are probably one of the most intelligent cookies of all. Did you or your eyes go ahead and take a look around whats happening across earthbread?”
”You certainly know that flattery will get you anywhere, huh? I suppose I AM one of the most smartest cookies, so…Yes, I did. But I also went out of my way to go and translate one of those letters myself, and I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t lie about that unless she wanted to make us feel fearful.”
Pue Vanilla softly smiled at his semi-boastfulness and even chuckled a little bit. His worried emotion was still present, though faint.
"Well, thank you for this information then. However, it still does worry me...Just as it would for any other person. This Soul-Jam, to think it would wage such huge wars.."
There was a bit of a prolonged silence, as if Shadow Milk was pondering something, thinking alone to himself quietly.
"Pure Vanilla..You know, I am not very different from Dark Enchantress. In all seriousness, I still find myself wanting your Soul-Jam even now, after all these months. I think I just simply do not understand why you would trust me so deeply is all. There is no way to tell whether I might join the beasts and Dark Enchantress Cookie one day. Even I do not know.."
Pure Vanillas dough shivered a bit, but his view on Shadow Milk did not change or waver. After all, it had only been a few months. After probably generations of him longing for his Soul-Jam back, he would most definitely not be able to give that up so quickly.
"Shadow Milk, you're wrong. You are different from Dark Enchantress Cookie. During my time at the spire, I also seemed to realize yet another thing. Maybe, just maybe, it wasnt that you wanted to really destroy and take over the world as she does, but rather you just gained a new corrupted mindset that believes deceit is the true and only way to gain happiness, considering what your past followers as the fount of knowledge done after they were scared away by the truth."
Pure Vanilla paused, before continuing after yet another second to think.
"I believe in you,"
"And I believe that you will not purposely reign terror over my kingdom. Just as I said before..Even if were perhaps meant to be enemies, that dosent have to be the exact fate. In fact, I think...In a year, we will be looking back on these moments and smiling together. Then, we can spend time together whenever we would like, go on adventures together, too, and we can also just do whatever we would enjoy."
His gentle and soothing voice brought tears to even Shadow Milks eyes. He quickly tried blinking them away, but they ended up falling down his cheeks instead. Vunerability was one of his worst fears, but he couldnt help but just allow it this once, just like when Pure Vanilla had hugged him in the garden of white lilies. He also remembered the kiss, but chose to ignore it for right now just so he wouldn't start blushing again.
His words brought a soft smile to his lips, to which he quickly turned his head away as Pure Vanilla Cookie moved closer to him and rested his palm on Shadow Milks hand.
"...I think I would like to keep being in love with you next year, too."
Shadow Milk replied happily.
Pure Vanilla didn't respond, instead just smiling warmly and placing a soft kiss on his cheek.
For what felt like forever to Shadow Milk, they sat there in silence, with Pure Vanilla leaning against him. He would occasionally hum against him, Causing Shadow Milk to feel his body heat up despite almost always being cold. His Soul-Jam also seemed to react towards it too.
Pure Vanilla was like a weighted blanket, and as much as he wanted to move around a bit, he didn't really wanna bother him.
~
"What are the next steps towards defeating Dark Enchantress Cookie?" Shadow Milk asked calmly. He already knew about much of the stuff going on, yet he couldn't help but ask.
"Shall I remind you about the council meeting? Once again, if you would like, you're always free to join in as well. Despite the opinions of others, I think the input of such an intelligent cookie like you would be useful and nice to have around." Pure Vanilla answered back, assuming Shadow Milk had already somehow forgotten.
"Oh yeah, because im the most intelligent cookie in the world. I havent forgotten." followed by a slightly irritated tone, yet playful.
"It's also just because its you."
The mild irritation that had scrunched up on Shadow Milks face rested, instead being replaced with a serene expression as Pure Vanilla continued to rest on his shoulder. The small movement of his chest moving up and down again in a steady pace caught Shadow Milks attention as well. Pure Vanillas handsome face resting against him quietly, with a gentle hum too.
"I think I'll just stay in my room during the meeting."
"Whatever you are comfortable with, Bluebird."
-
That morning was exhausting to Shadow Milk, just as all the others. The noise in the halls came and went, and it wasn't long until he realized he had slept in by quite a while.
He wondered if the other ancient heros were here yet, and to his predictment, they most certainly were. Hollyberry and Golden Cheeses loud voices are not hard to miss at all, and at one point he questioned if it was dramatic to start covering up his ears. Hollyberry Cookie surely loved 'juice' and Golden Cheese Cookie adored boasting about her riches and treasures.
How annoying.
"Just how long will this go on for...." Shadow Milk stated emptily, to a room full of nobody.
The sunlight shining through the balcony door mixed with the light blue sky was meant to make the vibe of the late morning more peaceful and calm. Cheery, even. All Shadow Milk felt was a deep sense of dread, looming over him and never going away. He knew he would basically be confined to his room if not his bed all day long, considering the fact that if he stepped out he would have a chance of being seen.
He also knew that Pure Vanillas little friends were wary of him, and they would not take his presence lightly, even if they already knew he was here.
Out of sight, out of mind.
And with that, he decided to roll out of bed and decide to make some new puppets for the time being.
After all, its good to stimulate your mind, right?
-
Pure Vanilla Cookie showed White Lily Cookie and Golden Cheese Cookie to their chambers, as Hollyberry and Dark Cacao already knew where theirs were during the last council meeting. White Lily Cookies chamber was filled with the most obvious flower of all, White lillies.
However, White lillies seem prominent almost everywhere in the Vanilla Kingdom, which White Lily took notice of. They all smelled fresh, taking over the entire scent of the room. Golden Cheese Cookie still seemed to be feeling a bit akward as White Lily set her things down in a calm manner. Despite her well known gentle and kind attitude still being present even now, Golden Cheese just couldn't get Dark Enchantress Cookies wrongdoings out of her mind. She did her best to remind herself they are not the same person, but it still proved difficult.
Pure Vanilla gave both of them a reassuring smile that all is well.
"Im sure that the council meeting will go well. We'll leave you to get settled, White Lily Cookie." Pure Vanilla said calmly, laced with a very present happiness. He had already been so happy when he got to see Hollyberry Cookie and Dark Cacao Cookie again, but despite the atmosphere being rather tense between White Lily and Golden Cheese, he was even more overjoyed. He had missed his friends dearly, and missed seeing them all together like this even more.
They walked away from White Lily Cookies chambers, giving her the time she needed to collect herself. Golden Cheese started talking to Pure Vanilla Cookie about how shes been all this time while they walked, to which Pure Vanilla quietly nodded with a soft smile every thirty seconds or so. He was more of the listener type.
Once they both had arrived at Golden Cheese Cookies chambers, he left her alone to get settled aswell, making his way quietly to his own. The halls were particulary silent around this area of the castle, just as Pure Vanilla liked. The Vanilla Kingdom always seemed to be silent anyway, it was only now that the ancient heros were here that everyone started to chatter again.
They had grown used to Shadow Milks...presence.
To this tricks, chaos, and everything. Though, everyone had assumed that where ever Shadow Milk is, that is where tricks and chaos will be aswell.
What a lie. Reminds Shadow Milk of Black Sapphire Cookie and all of his little rumors that he had requested to fall upon earthbread. Rumors were an important part in deceit, after all. They were one of the most common forms of lies anyway.
Pure Vanilla let out a heavy sigh, positioning himself on his bed. He had already felt exhausted, despite the immense joy hes felt, seeing all of his friends together like this again. Yet, he couldn't help but wonder what Shadow Milk was doing. He knew that Shadow Milk would most likely not feel comfortable enough to come out of his room at all, and as much as he wanted to check in on him too....
He couldn't bring himself to get up. Its as if his body was glued to the bed. Full of fatigue, his eyes started almost shutting on their own. It was so sudden, but perhaps he had been too stressed out recently. And this council meeting about the very thing he had been stressed out about all this time was definitely not going to help.
He didnt know if it was just the stress, or a combination of...Well, everything.
Starvation due to forgetting to eat, the pressure of being the ruler of a kingdom, the immense politics, overworking himself each night due to all this paperwork he had to complete....
His body eventually gave out and went limp as he blacked out.
-
The halls were still extremely silent. The scent of vanilla had always been so overwhelming. Despite there being newly awakened chatter in the kingdom due to the arrival of Pure Vanillas little friends, Shadow Milk couldn't help but feel something is wrong.
He had been bored out of his mind, not being able to use his harmless trickery and schemes to play with the villagers as he usually does. Sure, he had been working on his puppets and masks...But that can only be fufilling for an amount of time.
He sighed heavily, realizing that his head had been on the desk resting quietly for quite a while. He knew that he could always form portals to get from place to place, but the thing is, the ancients could be anywhere. Not only would would he probably get a frightened reaction out of him just randomly appearing in front of him, but he would also probably be met with a deep sense of subtle hatred, despite Pure Vanilla talking fairly well of Shadow Milk Cookie.
As if a switch just turned on in his head, he got the best idea yet;
How about he take a quick trip to Pure Vanillas room through his portal to see if hes there or not?
He should've thought of it earlier, really. It was a pretty simple idea that should have come to his mind quicker.
Lifting his head up slowly, stretching, he wondered what the ancients have even been doing all day. He is sure that Pure Vanilla probably had his head chattered away by those two rather talkative and loud little ancients. Though, he was fine.
Shadow Milk had always been way more talkative anyway.
He stood up, grouching as he had been sat for a while at his desk. Forming a portal, he felt that weird feelings come back even stronger once again. Did it have something to do with Pure Vanilla?
For some reason, both of them had this theory that whenever one is in distress or nearby, their Soul-Jams will both emit a small hum, filled with despair and sorrow. It has happened quite a bit of times, but due to its inconsistency, it seems they are both forced to call it merely a theory. However, right now was definitely something real. He stepped into his portal calmly, his fingertips tracing the outline of his Soul-Jam.
It took a second to register, but seeing Pure Vanillas completely passed out body almost came as a surprise to him. His eyes widening, he rushed over to Pure Vanilla. This was the last thing he had expected.
"Ah..Pure Vanilla! A..Are you alright?! Can you hear me?" Shadow Milks voice was full of distress and urgency, shaking Pure Vanilla to get him awake. Pure Vanilla Cookie did not look like he intended to fall unconcious at all, it was obvious.
Shadow Milks stomach dropped when he had first even layed eyes on him like this.
He sat on the bed, pulling him up off the floor, where only his head layed on the bed. He was still trying to shake him awake, buy Pure Vanilla seemed to just no budge one bit. He hated showing such care and urgency like this, but....It was something that came with his deep, immense love. Despite them definitely having romantic love for one another, their inital connection extended further than just simply romantic or platonic.
A deep sense of longing, connection. They had been intertwined. Wherever Truth was, Deceit followed closely.
Seeing Pure Vanilla like this set a feeling in Shadow Milk that he almost felt guilty of and terrified for himself; Deep sorrow. Was it... Empathy? Sympathy?
Shadow Milk had always been so sadistic, he felt as if it is unnatural to be feeling such a thing. Any normal romantic partner would be in distress over this of course, but Shadow Milk would always will feel a hint of amusement and even joy in it still. It had been so hard to define the difference between general obsession and love; The lines were extremely blurred, despite being very clear for Pure Vanilla Cookie.
This is the first time tears had actually dripped down his cheeks at something like this.
He didnt wipe them away, and instead they solemnly dropped down onto Pure Vanillas robes silently, one by one.
How pathetic.
"Pure Vanilla!!!!" Shadow Milk shouted, not considering anything.
Pure Vanillas eyes fluttered open slowly, beginning to fill with confusion and surprise. Looking up at Shadow Milk with tears in his eyes, before he quickly blinked them away. He still felt fatigued, unable to move and instead just resting there. Had Shadow Milk been causing a racket due to this? Was he shouting the entire time?
He would not have been mad at Shadow Milk whatsoever if he did, but...
He simply did not want his friends to worry.
".....Shadow Milk Cookie?"
Shadow Milk very much knew Pure Vanilla had finally awakened once more from his...slumber, yet he still gasped slightly, as if in surprise. "Pure Vanilla, what is the meaning of this? Are you alright?"
Once Pure Vanilla finally had the strength to move even the slightest bit, his lips cracked into a soft, gentle smile, looking into Shadow Milks deep blue eyes.
"I am sorry you had to see me like this, Shadow Milk...I don't know what came over me, I'll-"
"No. Can't you just rest? I feel like thats the main problem. Well, for this collapse, I suppose. That and your...Eating habits."
Pure Vanilla frowned, guilty and almost embarassed. He certainly did not like the mention of his eating behaviors either.
".....I suppose." Pure Vanilla mumbled under his breath, nodding subtlety in acceptance, before climbing onto his bed further with Shadow Milks help.
“….I really am sorry, Shadow Milk Cookie. The council officially starts tomorrow, so I am glad that I didn’t pass out then, haha..” Pure Vanilla nervously laughed, like he always did in tense situations. It almost came as a method to soothe himself.
“Half-penny…Just get some rest before the council. I can use my portal to get you some water if you would like.” Shadow Milks face looked conflicted, but Pure Vanillas remained tired looking and neutral. “I would appreciate it.” He replied, in a calm and polite manner.
It’s worrying to Shadow Milk despite how he was so calm. Thats what worried him. Had this happened before in the past?
The Cookie of Deceit stood, eyes only wandering off Pure Vanilla for merely a second.
He hesitated slightly, but he formed his portal to which he stepped into, the kitchen now being in sight. He had to make sure that there was none of Pure Vanilla friends wandering the halls before he could make his presence, but once he noticed there was nobody there, he felt a tad bit safer.
Grabbing a glass of water, he pondered about the future, and what has been happening with Pure Vanilla recently.
He seemed to also think quietly to himself about their relationship with each other in the past few months, and just how much development they have had. He occasionally slipped in a vocal line which just consisted of his most non-important thoughts, right before he stepped back into his portal. He had to be careful not to spill anything.
Shadow Milk always spoke in a polite and formal tense, and so did he right now. It was almost as if he was Pure Vanillas personal butler. “And for you, sir.” He said, playfully sarcastic.
The Ancient chuckled a bit, smiling happily before he took a small sip. It made Shadow Milks heart flutter.
He sat on the bed next to him, and they stayed like that for quite a while. However, after a bit of time, footsteps started to appear. They’re coming towards Pure Vanillas chamber.
Knock knock..
The door opened slightly, to which White Lily Cookie stood in the doorway, with a surprised expression on her face once she registered Shadow Milks presence beside Pure Vanilla Cookie. She opened the door wider and took a single step inside.
“Oh…Its…The Beast of deceit. Pure Vanilla, may I ask what the meaning of this is?” Her face was cautious and somewhat stern, to which Pure Vanilla stood up to just almost reach her level. Sadly, he just had to be the shortest of all the ancients.
“White Lily Cookie. This is…My guest. I trust that you will treat all of my guests with respect, no?” He was a bit nervous, and Shadow Milk could tell because of his body language, which he had silently studied over the last couple of months. However, his polite but confident expression did not waver.
“…I will. However, I will not be forgetting what he has done. I will just make that clear…”
“Pure Vanilla, I know it has been a bit, but I heard some loud noises coming from your room and was wondering what was going on. Are you alright?” She questioned, shifting her focus to Pure Vanilla Cookie, probably as she had intended. Her face was filled with worry and curiosity.
“Please do not worry about me, I am fine. I seemed to have just worked my mind a little too much, but Im alright now. Thank you.” Pure Vanillas eyes warmed up and he gave her a soft smile.
“If you insist…Though, I am still curious as to what happened.” White Lily Cookie persisted, her face growing less tense just slightly.
“I felt a bit tired, so I ended up passing out once I got back to my chambers… I’m a bit surprised there wasn’t a louder thud, if I’m being honest, haha..Thank you for caring about me so dearly, White Lily Cookie. I hold lots of gratitude.” Pure Vanilla chuckled nervously yet again, still keeping that smile on his face.
“Oh, that’s.. Im so sorry that I didn’t see how tired you were. Please do get some rest, dear friend. If you ever need anything, please don’t be afraid to let me know. Your health means very much to me..” White Lily Cookie had a look of sympathy on her face, feeling sad for Pure Vanilla. She would have offered to get him some tea, but she seemed to feel more awkward due to Shadow Milk being in the same room, and he had probably already been helping Pure Vanilla in her eyes, Which she was correct.
“Of course. Thank you again, White Lily Cookie.”
White Lily Cookie turned around to leave, but stopped for a quick second as she put her hand back onto the door softly. “Do the others….know about his presence? I was already aware of it before, but I supposed I simply did not expect him to be here, tending to you…”
“They’re aware, yes.”
…..
Silence that lasted a mere second longer than it should have. It gave White Lily Cookie another chance to think.
“As I said before, I will respect him as your guest, but I will not be forgetting nor forgiving him for what he has done to earthbread. And..For Elder Faerie as well.”
“Another thing I would like to add..If he does do any harm to you, I will not hesitate to take measures to ensure your safety, Pure Vanilla Cookie.”
Pure Vanilla processed her words for a few seconds, to which he then silently nodded in acceptance and understanding.
Turning her head back around for a final time, she walked out of the room and back to her chambers. Her footsteps were always extremely quiet, though something Pure Vanilla noticed is that now they were silent.
He already understood why.
With the door now shut, Pure Vanilla sat back down on the bed and let out a heavy sigh. Shadow Milk stared at him with a neutral expression.
"Pure Vanilla, would you like to get some rest now?" He asked, wondering if he should leave him alone to get some well deserved sleep, just as Pure Vanilla had promised Shadow Milk he'd strive to get.
“I would appreciate it… However, if you would like, of course, you’re welcome to stay in my room for the night. If you do not want to go back to your own room, that is.” Pure Vanilla said, taking off his giant cape and slipping into bed. His mannerisms are so calm.
Shadow Milk immediately looked at him with a face full of shock, about to decline, but found himself instead considering it despite his initial reaction.
“You do know that I can form portals to go wherever I want, whenever I want, right?” Shadow Milk stared at him with expression of irritation and shock, even if he did not truly feel irritated.
“As I said, only if you would like…”
Continuing to stare at Pure Vanilla Cookie with shock, he narrowed his eyes, almost like a cat. “You must be dumb if you think that will work out, me practically sleeping with you.” Shadow Milks face grew more red as he spoke, which he did not notice quite yet.
“I mean, haven’t we done more in the past?”
The beast stood up and walked further from the bed, glaring at Pure Vanilla. “…You,” He started, to which he was cut off by his own thoughts for about a second. “…Are the most insufferable cookie in the entirety of Earthbread.”
“Seems I do know how to make you flustered, though, hehehe.” Pure Vanilla chuckled out. His eyes were calm and tired, yet both his eyes and his tone of voice was also filled with amusement.
Shadow Milks face heated up, finally noticing as he brushed his fingers over his face gently. That certainly did not help, as probably anyone would have guessed.
….“How dare you.” Shadow Milk instead sat back down on the chair in front of Pure Vanillas desk, still staring at him. The Ancient smiled at him, admiring him closely.
“I shall go to sleep now, I suppose…I do not mind whatever option you choose, however there is one that is rather clear I would rather have you choose, heh..” Pure Vanilla replied, smiling once more before shifting onto his side and closing his eyes. He slipped one of his eyes open to take a quick to see if Shadow Milk was leaving after a few seconds.
Pure Vanilla slept rather normally despite always staying up so late. He fell asleep within about 15 minutes, which Shadow Milk had been using that time to do nothing but just stare at him.
He knew it was weird, creepy to most even, yet he couldn’t help but just stare at Pure Vanilla even long after he had fallen asleep.
All he did was stare.
His expression was now calm and neutral compared to earlier, and he enjoyed the sight before him. Even though he was now the only one awake in the room…This feeling was so good to him. The feeling of company.
After a little while, he stood up and silently walked over to the bed Pure Vanilla laid in, sitting down next to him on the softwood floor. The Ancients breathing soothed him, as so did the slow rise and fall of his chest.
A motive to be alive.
After a while, he rested his head on the soft wood of the bed and began to fall asleep. Shadow Milk did not really have as much as a need to sleep as others did at all, so he always stayed up really late. ‘Maybe it is a well deserved rest’, he thought to himself quietly. But this is not about him. This is about Pure Vanilla.
Whenever he had wandered off into Pure Vanillas room in the early morning while he wasn’t present, the candle on his desk would always be burned to a stump. He must have always been working and tiring himself out all the time.
Pure Vanilla deserves this break more than he ever could.
Shadow Milk slipped his eyes open once more just to get one last look at him before he headed to sleep.
His chest, rising and falling slowly. His amazing tan skin. His beautiful, long silky blond hair that brushed against his face and body softly, contrasting his skin. His long, almost white eyelashes that rested softly. His eyes weren’t open right now, but he could remember them greatly. An exquisite pastel blue and yellow, that he always saw as an ocean he sink into forever and ever.
Everything about him is so handsome, so precious, so beautiful…
His kind smile, caring personality, calm mannerisms..
Shadow Milk realized he had basically been staring at him for maybe an hour now. Just like earlier, he understood it was really weird to some, but surely lots of people stared at their partners for an extended period of time, right?
Even so, not everything needs to fit the norm.
Falling into a deep slumber for maybe the first time in years, the stars loomed in the night sky, watching over them as the moonlight seeped from the balconies glass door. They twinkled with bright light, comforting their bodies closely as they slept.
Floating above Pure Vanilla Cookie, a certain familiar cookie watched over him with a soft smile on his calm face. His body glowed brightly, and he extended his hands, offering protection over not just Pure Vanilla, but the two of them both. It wouldn’t last forever, but once it wore off, perhaps they will remember just how important time is.
An intertwined fate casted between the two of them, the moonlight they basked in together. A pure form, the light and dark tied together, that certain cookie smiled as he continued to watch their slow rise and descent in breath.
That cookie only appeared in his dreams, right?
For Pure Vanilla, perhaps being with Shadow Milk just felt like a dream by itself.
All feelings of anxiety and dread disappear in a dream, after all.
-
…..
The morning was cold. Not in a bad way, but once Shadow Milk woke up, his spine shivered slightly from the nearby cold breeze. It smacked him in the face, but it only took him a second to find that he had a blanket thrown on him, despite going to sleep with no blanket and only soft wood from the bed as a pillow.
He rubbed his eyes, finally getting sleep that he had been missing out on for years. Looking around the room, he noticed the Pure Vanilla on the balcony, supposedly feeding the blue birds. Was this really the one thing he did each morning before all that work?
Feed some birds?
Shadow Milks tense face calmed down, aswell as his expression went calm. ‘So thats where that cold air was coming from,’ He thought to himself silently.
"Pure Vanilla?" He said in a quiet voice, trying to not startle him. How unusual, compared to his mostly loud voice, despite it still being slightly gloomy and mostly serious. "Shadow Milk?" The Ancient looked back at him, surprised but shifting his attention to both Shadow Milk and the blue birds. "Oh, you're awake! You slept quite a while unlike usual, are you well rested? The council is today, so I decided to wake up just a bit earlier."
"....More well rested than ive been in centuries, thats for sure. Its really cold in here." His eyebrows scrunched up slightly while he replied, a bit more grumpy since he just woke up.
"Oh, Im sorry...Yes, I suppose it is quite colder than usual. However, even though you've only been awake for about a minute i presume...."
"Do you feel it too?"
Pure Vanilla finally finished his sentence.
".....Feel what? Are you going to start bombarding me with weird questions as soon as I wake up?" Pure Vanilla looked just a little defeated, but his calm energy returned after a few seconds of thinking to himself. Shadow Milk brushed off his question as just him being weird again, though the ambience of the room was filled with a new feeling. One that he had never felt nor seen before. Was he really not just talking nonsense? As the Cookie of Knowledge, he felt as if he had just betrayed his entire past title by assuming so idiotically.
"It feels as if...There is a new mystique surrounding the two of us. I expected you would feel it too, but I guess not....Sorry if I sound like I'm making no sense." Pure Vanilla seemed almost as if he was sad.
"Nevermind my words. I think I do. It brings an almost calming feeling towards me.."
The two locked eyes, causing Pure Vanilla to blush a tiny bit.
"Perhaps....Safety and future has set itself in place with us both. It is more so just a quick thought, but....Considering the two of us are soulmates, it could not possibly stray far from the truth, don't you think?"
Silence.
It lingered for a long time. But it felt natural, not tense to the two lovers.
-
Shadow Milk returned to his room after a bit of time, leaving Pure Vanilla to the council. He was of course bored out of his mind again, missing his beloved 'lesser'-half. All thats left to do is continue to make puppets and masks for his little shows, not caring who might be roaming the halls of the Vanilla Castle.
The room of the council was definitely warmer than the Ancients room, with all his friends now gathered around to discuss politics and such. Perhaps it wasn't just the temperature of the room keeping it warm, but the vibe that he got when with his friends as well. It felt so cozy being surrounded by all of his well trusted friends and allies.
Clotted Cream Cookie had come yet again, yet he was actually invited this time. Dark Cacao Cookie seemed to still show at least a hint of resentment towards him, glaring him down.
The topic was heavy, though. It all weighed tons on their minds.
"Hello, and welcome to the second Council meeting here in the Vanilla Kingdom." Pure Vanilla started off, his expression calm and serious, yet welcoming too.
"Once again, I would like to thank all my dear friends, Hollyberry Cookie, Dark Cacao Cookie, White Lily Cookie, Golden Cheese Cookie and of course, Clotted Cream Cookie as well. Thank you all for coming! And with that, shall we begin? As you all know....I am afraid to say that war with Dark Enchantress Cookie is coming quicker than we all thought. With the release of the beasts, she will have more power on her side than ever. It is painful to say, but this war will most definitely be a tough one. That is for sure.."
Pure Vanilla carefully thought out his next set of words, hesitating before he spoke.
"Though, I am happy to say we do have at least one beast on our side. Shadow Milk Cookie, that is. I understand that lots of you hold resentment towards him for his past wrongdoings, but it is something I feel I must say in order to lighten the mood at least a little. It will help us in battle at the very least, considering he is also the leader of the beasts...I will not tell you to forget or even forgive him whatsoever, but please do not consider him an enemy any longer. We must do all we can in order to protect and support not only the Soul Jam, but our dear kingdoms as well."
His voice was serious and he thought everything through well. He understands the pain others must feel towards the despair caused by none other than Shadow Milk Cookie himself, such as White Lily Cookie and Elder Faerie Cookie....Yet, he cant help but wish the others would be in full support of his allyship, especially considering him and Shadow Milks current relationship.
Shadow Milk slithered around in a potted plant outside the Council room, listening in closely, his eyes narrowing at the mention of his name.
The Ancient Heros discussed possible solutions and plans for the upcoming war, with the mention of the new magic candy as well that had helped them out in their adventures in Beast-Yeast. Dark Cacao couldn't help but gain a more irritated expression each time Clotted Cream spoke, with his arrogant-seeming attitude despite meaning no harm whatsoever.
They both even almost ended up having yet another argument just like last time, though the situation was mediated immediately by Hollyberry Cookie and Pure Vanilla Cookie.
"It is inevitable that we will meet the beasts again, as we all have known...Yet I can not find myself pleased with meeting that Mystic Flour Cookie again. Her Childish nature...It is something that every single one of the beasts share. Though, I am not quite informed on what Shadow Milks attitude is as of late...I am glad all of you are well after your adventures in Beast-Yeast." Dark Cacao spoke, everyone listening closely, which Clotted Cream silently nodded in agreement as soon as he finished his little speech.
It felt as if almost nobody had anything to say. The room was silent, tense as well.
The silence did not remain for a while, as the Council room began to have a tone set with chatter shortly after. They all devised and developed a plan, which made it easier for everyone. Unlike last time, there was not a need to have the Council set for multiple days, and it was decided everyone would make their leave back to their kingdoms and such tomorrow afternoon.
Thankfully, Shadow Milk went unnoticed by the other Ancients, White Lily Cookie excluded.
Pure Vanilla walked back to his chambers quietly, reflecting on everything they had all talked about together in the Council. It went on for quite a long time, that was for sure. They had lots and lots to talk about and plan, after all.
Deciding to tidy his room a bit, he went back over the plan in his head.
Those letters were talked about in the Council. In one of them, it stated the first battle would be in the Dark Cacao Kingdom. He didn't introduce the topic in the Council, but Shadow Milk proposing the thought that the letters could be lying...It weighed heavily on Pure Vanillas mind. However, it seemed to have an impact on Shadow Milk as well, and Pure Vanilla could see it.
The look in his eyes.
Shadow Milk had always had a need for control, but with how untrustworthy these letters just could be, it hurt both of them because they both had no idea what kind of pain could be awaiting them. All the possibilities were endless. And the fact that some of the letters ended up being gibberish too just contributes to the idea that its plainly deceit, and Shadow Milk knows it.
He knows it all, considering he is the Cookie of Deceit.
However, he was also once the Prophet of Knowledge.
Despite deceit being a corrupted form of information, perhaps having the Beast of Deceit on their side was just as a idea of letting a Cookie of Knowledge on their side as well. They both would bring good to the table now that Shadow Milk has changed so much, after all. Its a good idea.
Right, the plan. Considering that Pure Vanilla now had Shadow Milk by his side, he almost wanted to try and intervene with the battle in the Dark Cacao Kingdom, however Dark Cacao Cookie advised against it, stating that 'his warriors had been training their entire lives for this, and that their fights with the licorice sea will not be for naught.' Pure Vanilla had looked at him with worry, but he listened to his words carefully before nodding with accceptance and understanding.
The first battle will be in the Dark Cacao Kingdom, its settled.
Clotted Cream Cookie proposed helping out every Ancient Hero with their Kingdom battles with the Creme Republic, even Dark Cacao Cookie. Despite their complicated relationship with one another, he was not one to let his immature parts get in the way, and kept the perfect smile on his face through it all. And who was Dark Cacao to just refuse? The rest of the Ancients gratefully accepted, Pure Vanilla included.
He felt hesitant almost, but wasn't able to quite put his finger on why. He would have gracefully accepted it any other time, so why is this time any different?
But then he remembered, that at times he was hesitant to even call himself an Ancient Hero. After failing to protect his kingdom in the Dark Flour War, failing to protect his people.... Was that something he was even allowed to call himself at all? The title felt almost foreign to him.
To him, its not deserved whatsoever. The only trace hes found that comes directly from the Vanilla Kingdom is the Creme Republic and Strawberry Crepe Cookie. However, the Creme Republic is not even really similar to the Vanilla Kingdom due to its....Immense problem when it comes to the rich and the poor. The only thing they both really have in common is that they are both connected in terms of ancestry.
His desk was cleaned up, the floors were swept, and he realized that it was already quite late. However, he realized that he had more-so been self reflecting rather than going over the plan. Had he really gotten anything done? The room needed a clean, and everyone had been working so hard at doing their duties.
Strawberry Crepe Cookie had to always tend to the wafflebots, and even if they enjoyed it, it still was something, right? Black Raisin Cookie had been keeping a watch out all this time, helping out in the Crows Nest Inn too. And Shadow Milk Cookie… He had been working so hard all this time to just feel allowed to exist.
The truth is, Shadow Milk doesn’t even view himself as a real cookie.
Pure Vanilla always urged for others to take breaks, with an example being him advising Espresso Cookie to take naps…. Yet he couldn’t even take his own advice.
Stepping out of the portal, Shadow Milk emerged and landed himself into Pure Vanillas room, catching him off guard.
“Ah…Shadow Milk? You look irritated.” Pure Vanilla had a look of slight concern on his face, wondering if he is alright.
With the smell of vanilla slapped right into his face yet again, he began to speak as if he had a headache. He looked ill. “Turns out that going to play light pranks on that merchant again was not a very good idea…” He started, trailing off as he spoke.
“Hehe…Well, I would definitely advise not to go tormenting my dear citizens, please. Even if its light..Though I do know it’s in your nature.” Pure Vanilla awkwardly chuckled.
“Yeah, yeah…Whatever. How did the Council go?” Shadow Milk shrugged in annoyance, not even paying attention to his words.
“It went surprisingly well. I know you obviously weren’t here for the last Council meeting I had with my friends, but lets just say.. The first time there were quite a few arguments between all of us.” The Ancient replied back, softly smiling, before turning his head to look at his paperwork. He stacked them neatly in one pile.
“I was actually listening in most of the time, so I knew that much..”
Pure Vanillas head turned back to face Shadow Milk on its own, with a surprised expression showing vividly on his face. It left the Beast confused.
“Why are you staring at me like that?”
“I know now that you have grown lots as a person, you do not lie nearly as much as you used to..However, I am definitely aware of you still using deceit frequently, even if it’s not as harmful. Thats all.”
“….And? You think it’s really gonna hurt me to tell the truth like that once in a while?” Shadow Milk had a smug smile on his face, his tone laced with sarcasm.
Pure Vanilla knew it was pointless to continue on.
.....
Shadow Milk sat down on Pure Vanillas bed, looking off to the side of the room. There was still plates of food that had gone practically untouched.
"You forgot to eat again." He said calmly, still blankly staring at the plate.
Pure Vanilla yet again had no response.
The Beast rested his head in his palms, somehow not growing bored despite staring into basically nothing. It soothed him in some way, this silence. It was like the calm before the storm, a feeling he wanted to savor the most while it lasted. Shadow Milk did not feel a need to break the silence anymore. Pure Vanilla on the other hand, sat quietly at his desk with loads of paperwork in front of him. His eyebrows furrowed.
Despite his inital feeling of not being required to break the silence in order to feel safe, he noticed just how stressed Pure Vanilla looked. Before, he had felt empathy for when he had fainted and even started tearing up. However, this time is different. He just stares at him for a couple of seconds, studying his expression to determine whether he should make a move or not.
And this just reminded him, no matter whether he feels any sadistic pleasure or pure empathy or sympathy at all...
The feeling would remain the same. He would always feel this pit of emptiness, deep within his heart.
Shadow Milk stood up and walked towards him and his desk, looking down onto the massive pile of paperwork in front of him.
"Do you need any help?" He questioned, his expression unchanging.
Pure Vanilla felt it again. That deep sense of guilt he kept within himself, eating him from the inside out, swallowing him whole. He felt incredibly grateful, but his words of acceptance and gratitude were caught within his throat. It wouldn't come out of his mouth, it just wouldn't.
Shadow Milk didn't need an answer.
He slid over another nearby chair and schooched it over towards the desk, picking some papers up and inspecting them closely.
"This all seems completely unimportant for information regarding a war. Are you sure this is even something you're required to do?"
"Every single document is extremely important, Shadow Milk....Thank you for offering your help, but if this is your idea of what 'helping' is meant to be, then im afraid I might just have to decline..." Pure Vanilla shifted in his seat, eyes turning to face Shadow Milk and his curious expression. The Ancients eyes narrowed slightly, looking at the other as if he disapproved of their attitude, resting his hands back into his lap. 'How ignorant', Shadow Milk thought Pure Vanilla must be thinking.
"Fine, fine. Listen, how about I take over and do your paperwork for you? Considering just how much i've grown as a person in these past few months, i must be truly reliable now, at least." He had a sly grin on his face as he spoke, similar to a certain mischevious cheshire cat.
".....You'd do that? For me?" Pure Vanillas eyes had a spark of curiosity, along with that usual gentleness he always gave off, of course.
"My, of course! My dearest other half does not deserve to be required to tend to such.....Very important paperwork, all the time. And besides, just one isn't enough. Who's to say you cant have multiple breaks, am I right?" Shadow Milk replied back, continuing to smile at him happily. Though its quite obvious to Pure Vanills he still dosen't view the paperwork as important whatsoever because of his few-second pause, he accepted it gracefully anyways.
Shadow Milk could barely even react before a soft kiss was placed onto his cheek, leaving him in shock.
"You..you..."
Pure Vanilla giggled, his happiness taking over his guilt.
"Shadow Milk....I will say this. You have brought me such happiness like this, for so long...Its almost too darling to even think about. I dont know how to even repay you....However, I will continue to thank you forever and ever, as long as we live and long after we die."
The Beast continued to stare in blatant shock.
"I know this might not be an exactly appropriate time to say this, but with war and everything coming up soon....I would like to say it quickly."
"Maybe, in the future....Long after our hard-earned victory, I would like to get married."
Shadow Milks gaze on Pure Vanilla continued to be of pure, absolute shock, but was quickly replaced with grand happiness as well. They both pulled into a heartwarming and tender kiss. The delicacy drove Shadow Milk inisane in a positive, happy way. The two closed their eyes, accepting each other as a mandatory part of each others lives. Their intertwined fate, their Souljams driven to be next to eachother, connected by the stars that align.
Soulmates.
-
The next time Pure Vanilla walked into Shadow Milks room freely, he noticed quite a lot of new things.
The roses have died. To most, it would be a sad and pitiful sight. However, these beautiful dark red and blue roses have lived a long life. They were actually kept alive for maybe a bit too long, with magic from Shadow Milk himself being used to keep them alive and growing rapidly once planted.
He finally knows what he wants.
What he desires.
What he loves.
The masks were tidied away, though his arts and crafts never stopped. His spark of creativity always lasted, even if he had finally taken the chance to clean up after himself since what felt like forever. The entire room seemed to be quite tidy in contrast to usual, actually. 'Perhaps it reflects his newly found mindset', Pure Vanilla thought to himself.
Tidying up can bring peace to the mind, after all.
And even though Shadow Milk still absolutely loved performing, and he did still put on a show every once in a while....
Maybe, just maybe, Shadow Milk Cookie dosen't feel like he needs to always put on a performance anymore.
A place he could finally feel safe. A place he can call himself a Cookie.
Even though this thought was short, it lived on Pure Vanillas mind.
Shadow Milk never needed any fixing. He just needed some proper love.
“Pure Vanilla? Why are you just staring?”
Shadow Milks head turned to an extreme angle, blatantly pointing out his curiosity.
”Oh, nothing. I was just admiring your room. Did you tidy it up recently?” Pure Vanillas lips cracked into a warm smile, his face vibrant with emotion. The sunlight was gleaming, sunlight seeping through the window.
”Yeah, I did! Thanks for noticing, I actually only did it just to see if you’d pay any attention to it or not…Your room is just too clean I’m almost jealous. Except for all that paperwork and stuff on your desk, of course.”
”Of course I would notice. Your room is never this clean.”
They both chuckled together. It was strange, really. Just a few months ago, none of this would have ever happened. The two lovers, together, sharing genuine memories and emotion with one another.
It warmed the hearts of both.
One cold, one already warm.
“…..I know you must’ve already gotten the hint from our little moment that time, but I would just like to say it officially now.” Shadow Milk started.
“I would love to marry you.”
-
….
When I say the thought was short, I do not mean the thought was not short lived.
“Shadow Milk Cookie?”
The atmosphere was cold. The room was cold. To Shadow Milk, the room was finally the same temperature as he was. But yet, even he could still feel it. Despite him being absolutely overjoyed by Pure Vanillas proposal…. That was short lived.
His mood swings have always been extreme, intense, irrational.
This had meaning to it.
Two weeks later.
“….Pure Vanilla Cookie. I am not one for just giving up so quickly, but… I do not believe this will turn out well. Is there really any hope, in a time like this…? Or are you just choosing to lie to me now.”
Pure Vanillas hand rested on the doorframe, staring at Shadow Milk even if he had his back turned to him.
“Of course there is. I believe we will get through this together. Its no good to be so pessimistic, even if it seems ‘realistic’…”
“Liar.”
“You know it too, don’t you? This feeling of a broken sense of self. This despair. You have just been pretending to be alright this entire time, haven’t you? You little deceitful….”
He paused, not wanting to continue on in that direction.
“It’s so stupid. All of it. Thank you for your little moment of hope there, but…Who’s to say we’ll even be able to get married, right? Theres no possible scenario that I can imagine that happening anymore.”
“And why is that?”
Pure Vanilla tilted his head slightly. It contrasted Shadow Milk whenever he would turn his head to an extreme angle when filled with curiosity.
“…The rest of the beasts. I understand I am the leader of the five, and am probably of the strongest..However with all of their power combined, I will not be enough. And thats including their immense strength given to them by their army. Is our ability even enough?”
“I think you forget that we have the power of our Souljams with us as well, Shadow Milk. Please, listen to me.” The Ancient spoke gently, as if trying to not wake a giant beast.
What a fun way to word it.
“I understand, you feel pessimistic, like there is no hope surrounding us anymore…But don’t you feel it? I think we’re being protected. The aura is still there.”
“I don’t care anymore.”
……
Silence.
“….What?”
Pure Vanillas expression turned into one of concern and worry. He felt his stomach start to hurt due to the anxiety he was feeling in the moment, feeling a sharp pain.
“Theres no point. I don’t want to play these stupid games anymore. Im not going to give up, but I will tell you right now, if anything happens to break my trust…Its gone. I might as well just disappear then, just like the rest of us.” Shadow Milks head turned to look at Pure Vanilla. His eyes were wide.
“Shadow Milk…”
It felt like glass breaking. Sudden, quick, and it most definitely put them both on edge. The aura was gone. It no longer surrounded them, and maybe, just maybe… Things from here on out would be going downhill, and it wouldn’t be their relationship per se, despite this heated situation.
“…..It’s gone.” Shadow Milk stated. No emotion but worry, unlike his previous wrath.
“..Pure Vanilla? You’re..Tears. Im….Sorry, I didn’t mean to say that I…”
"Shadow Milk. Thank you for telling me your true feelings.” Pure Vanillas replied back with sadness present in his tone, seeing that Shadow Milk wasn’t going to finish his sentence. Tears rolled down his cheeks, and his lips formed into a small smile.
He walked up to Shadow Milk, taking both of his hands and clasping them together with his. They lacked the usual warmth they had, but it was only slight. Thankfully it seemed to be coming back once the two both pressed their hands against each other.
“It’s alright. Do not undermine your feelings… Please know that it’s all valid. I will do whatever it takes to save you, as well as my kingdom and my people. To save Earthbread. I will never give up, and neither should you.”
"We can do this together. I promise.”
"Liar..You're being hypocritical." Shadow Milk snarled, pushing him away.
"I mean it. Please, Shadow Milk Cookie."
"Please do not go back to lying to yourself once again."
His voice was so sweet. His mannerisms and everything, it was all so gentle. So full of kindness. Kindness that he couldn't let himself accept.
However, he has been accepting it all along, even if without his knowledge. He had been embracing it this entire time.
"Pure Vanilla..."
Pure Vanilla was embracing him.
The warmth around his body, enough to make his heart flutter, soothing the ache it had just a few seconds ago. To a feeling so empty, so cold... Pure Vanilla always brought warmth in. He surrounded the room with light, it always finding a way to seep in through the cracks and bring you out in the most kindest way possible. Pure Vanilla was the love of his life.
His inner and outer warmth, his soul.
"From this day on, I'll tell you everything, alright? No secrets. You will be able to have control as well. I will make sure of it. Please, please forgive me for not noticing this even deeper pain all this time. Please do forgive me."
Shadow Milk and Pure Vanillas foreheads touched as he spoke, Pure Vanilla fluttering his eyes shut. Exquisite. Gentle. He pleaded softly, reassuring the Beast that everything will be okay.
Everything will be okay.
Everything will be fine.
-
Something he could never do.
Bring warmth.
Four weeks since Pure Vanillas proposal. January.
The day was cold, way colder than Shadow Milks tempuratures would even like to adapt to. It was strange, as despite the Vanilla Kingdom being in the air, the only difficulty seemed to really be with getting a deep breath of air. Perhaps there were a few chilly breezes every so often, but it didn't mean much to anyone.
This was not the same kind of cold that had surrounded that room that day. The day Shadow Milk tried to lock himself away, even after Pure Vanilla oh so kindly extended a hand. Truth is, he has for months. Thats all he ever has been doing. Extending his hand.
However, the first time was for friendship. The second time was for love.
The third tiime will be him asking Shadow Milk to put the ring on his finger.
The fourth time...
...
“Strawberry Crepe Cookie, are the wafflebots in good condition?”
“Of course, as usual! Don’t underestimate the might of the wafflebots!”
War was fast approaching. Too quick, not much time to even really prepare. It’s all a big show for Shadow Milk, who’s trying to cope with this sense of inevitable doom and despair. Despite Pure Vanillas happy reassuring, he still found himself pessimistic.
They were now on a little outing, checking the preparations they did have. They needed all they could get.
Shadow Milk had kept quiet the entire time, wondering how Pure Vanilla isn’t acting as if he’s freezing unlike him. Shadow Milk had always been cold, so it was usually a benefit that he never really got hot in summer, as well as the weather seeming mild for him in winter. This was different. It was not the first time, but it definitely had been a while.
His skin ached.
“Black Raisin Cookie?” Pure Vanilla slid into the Crows Nest Inn, looking for Black raisin. He was only met with the villagers.
“Ah, Pure Vanilla Cookie! Black Raisin Cookie had left quite a bit ago. She is getting ready for the War. I believe you may find her in…where was it again…”
“Back around to where the village is!” Another called out.
“Right, thanks! ….Well, you heard them. Thank you for all you’re doing for us, Your Majesty. We will continue to work hard!”
Pure Vanilla chuckled, smiling warmheartedly at the villagers, before thanking them for their help and taking his leave.
“The village is not that far…Im sure we’ll get there in no time, Shadow Milk. Thank you for coming along once again..It’s nice to have some company.”
…
“Shadow Milk?” The Ancient came to a halt at the silence.
…
“It’s really cold out.”
“I see. I suppose you’re right..I don’t know why, but the temperatures have dropped extremely compared to the past winters.” Pure Vanilla stared at him, thinking about what to do next while Shadow Milk stayed silent yet again.
“How about we get some hot chocolate before we take our leave?” Pure Vanilla smiled. He seemed to be having fun since Shadow Milk was in his company, even if it was mostly silent. Even if the setting was terrifying and dreadful.
Nothing about this is fun.
“….I suppose that would be nice.”
The café in itself was warm, and the hot chocolate definitely served Shadow Milk justice.
This silence still remained, but it was never uncomfortable.
It was more so calming.
Shadow Milk had no choice but to look at Pure Vanilla the entire time as he sipped his hot chocolate, his own body betraying him. He admired the Ancient just as he always did, every single day.
They stepped back out of the shop, Shadow Milk still holding the unfinished cup in his hands. It was hot against his skin, and it made his spine shiver.
“To the village.” The Beast briefly stated, Pure Vanilla nodding in agreement.
The two started their long journey of heading to the village, unable to really be called a walk since only one was really walking. Shadow Milk seemed to sometimes start walking as well despite the pain in his legs; almost as if he was mocking how ‘normal’ cookies moved around.
Pure Vanilla didn’t mention it, instead just giving a short glance. It remised in his head, though.
“Black Raisin Cookie? Are you here?” Pure Vanilla called out, raising his voice.
They had finally reached their destination.
“Hm..? Oh, Healer…Pure Vanilla Cookie! I was just preparing. Does anything bring you here?” Black Raisin Cookie turned to Pure Vanilla in a cheerful yet serious tone, as usual with her long lasting cautiousness. ‘How is anyone even being hopeful in this time of crisis?’ Shadow Milk repeated in his head, it becoming fainter each time.
Black Raisin Cookie decided to pay Shadow Milk no mind.
“I was actually on an outing to go see the preparations. This war is coming rather quickly, though not something I would really like to admit…It will be difficult. All help is tremendously appreciated.” Pure Vanilla replied, his voice serious as well.
Pure Vanilla didn’t want it to show, but hope slipped away from even him at times. It drew his heart numb in those moments.
“I see. Well, it’s going fantastically well. I have gathered supplies, as well as planted my crows on patrol of the kingdom. The soldiers seem to be in good shape as well, at least since I last checked on them.”
Black Raisin Cookie spoke with a mostly humorless tone now, reciting every single detail as if reading off of a checklist.
Pure Vanilla stood with an expression of gratitude and appreciation, thankful for all the help. He made it evident in every single mannerism as well.
“Thank you, Black Raisin Cookie. Thank you. As I said, we need anything we can get, and you have been an immense help all this time to the Vanilla Kingdom….I wish there were an even more proper way to thank you. I express all my gratitude.” He replied, a smile cracking onto his lips and making way into his sound. He bowed to Black Raisin, leaving her almost somewhat surprised.
He went to go see the preparations for himself, and she was not at all lying. He was impressed. Every single thing had gone according to plan, at least what he hopes. Hope filled his heart, healing every single numb spot that only compassion for others lasted.
Care for himself and for others.
They eventually took their leave, Shadow Milk following behind Pure Vanilla as they headed back to the Vanilla Kingdom. Shadow Milk had an irritated face, but the only reason was because he had to see all the others get so much praise from his love like this. It made him sick.
However, it immediately went away and his expression was replaced with a smirk once he remembered that he had been proposed to by that very person. Ah, marriage.
The Ancient smiled back at him once seeing his change in emotion, glee filling him.
The cold didn't bother the two of them anymore. It never bothered Pure Vanilla anyway.
The two returned to the Vanilla Castle once they had arrived, Shadow Milk stepping into his other realm once he reached his room. Pure Vanilla decided that it was time to make up for all the work he had missed out on doing due to his breaks, which he could admit, it did make him feel refreshed.
It made the work go by faster too. Since he was always so tired, his brain would grow bored rather quickly and would require stimulation. Now, he could finally work without any distractions or discomfort. His paperwork was finished in only about two hours, Shadow Milk acting as a big help too since he offered to help him with it more often now.
Shadow Milk had kept his servants in his other realm most of the time, however even Black Sapphire and Candy Apple were helping out with preparations. Their tasks were fairly simple, though Candy Apple continued to act annoyed, presumably due to it helping Pure Vanilla. Even after all this time, she just could never let it go.
The night was quiet.
The footsteps of Shadow Milks servants, the cookies all over Earthbread marching towards the truth, Pure Vanilla silently working....
All was quiet, peaceful.
Shadow Milk wanted to pay Pure Vanilla a little visit.
Stepping back into his portal, he saw himself back in the Ancients room. Pure Vanilla was in a quiet slumber, his head rested on the desk. His appearance was so peaceful as well, and he almost didn't want to disturb it. He had indeed been getting breaks as Shadow Milk urged him to, but the Beast just felt as if it was never enough. He wishes he could be at peace forever.
Shadow Milk couldn't see it, but a certain Distant Cookie sat in the corner, looking over at the two of them. His expression was calm, thousands and thousands of thoughts running through his mind the entire time. He knew all. He glowed brightly, only something that Pure Vanilla Cookie himself could notice. He knew every single detail about what was going to happen next. There was no happiness on his face. There was so sadness or despair, either. There was no fear.
Just purity.
Shadow Milk carried Pure Vanilla over to his bed, careful to not accidentally wake him up and scare him. It would be pretty easy, considering that once he falls asleep, he is a pretty heavy sleeper. 'Poor thing, he even falls asleep just outside near the fountain sometimes,' The Beast thought to himself, mocking in a playful manner. Setting him down on the bed, he let out a heavy sigh.
His fragile body is definitely not made for this whatsoever..
After a while of staring yet again, he eventually gave in and sat down next to the sleeping Ancient on the bed. Pure Vanillas eyes opened, slowly and full of drowsiness.
"Eh....Shadow Milk?" He said, almost inaudible. His voice still needed a minute.
"Oh...I was just, haha.." Shadow Milk chuckled nervously, his cheeks starting to blush and turn a deep blue.
".....If you'd like...You can sleep in here tonight."
Pure Vanilla said it as if it was an everyday, absolutely normal, completely non intimate thing. 'How does he say it so casually??', Shadow Milk thought to himself again in confusion.
He touched his cheek and found out that his face had started to burn up. Extremely unusual.
In truth, its not that Pure Vanilla didn't get embarrassed whenever he suggests such a thing. He actually gets extremely shy, and other peoples reaction like this tends to make it worse.
"I think I will." Shadow Milk replied, finally accepting his offer. His expression turned back to one of calmness, despite his cheeks still being tinted a deep blue. In the morning, he knew that they would get to live another day together. Happily. The stars, only awake at night, the moon dancing with the sun in a waltz.
Shadow Milk, the moon. Mysterious, illuminates the sky. It can be present and seen by the sun during the day, but chooses not to. Is it out of fear, out of anger, out of hatred? Or is it love; Is it all of them combined? The moons cycles. A new start of renewal, a cycle of change.
Shadow Milk has changed for the better.
Pure Vanilla, the sun. Bright, hopeful, illuminates the sky as well. Its desperate to meet the moon and become friends, but the moon always loves to run away. Being a star itself, it burns extravagantly, with all the other stars as its friends. The only one left is the moon, who it shares its light with.
Pure Vanilla brings life. Understanding.
It seemed to Pure Vanilla as if no time has passed at all, but turns out it had already been an hour. Shadow Milk curled up beside Pure Vanilla, resting his head on his shoulder. He was sound asleep. How dare he wake him up and disrupt Pure Vanillas beauty sleep, just to then fall asleep right on top of him? Pure Vanilla giggled softly and quietly to himself, trying not to wake Shadow Milk by even just moving a little. He had always been a way lighter sleeper than the Ancient.
He turned his head to the side, his lips forming into a soft smile. Shadow Milk couldn't see it, but he could. His future staring right back at him. Both of them, smiling. One is completely unaware and other knows all, yet both of them continue to share the same exact emotion. Its as if both of them are feeling nostalgia, just for a different time and in a different sense.
The Distant Cookie glowed even brighter, almost as if he was a star himself.
And eventually, just like everyone else, he turned back to the dust, leaving himself to be found in Pure Vanillas dreams.
Pure Vanilla had no idea.
-
War. Destruction. Power and control.
These were the key characteristics of this life changing event that would soon occur. With it now being January, Pure Vanilla held absolutely cruel beliefs in his heart. He woke up in a cold sweat.
Shadow Milk had slept beside him that night, offering him peace. It also provided further warmth for the both of them, considering just how cold the temperatures are lately. Their bodies embraced each other the entire night, as Pure Vanilla had eventually fallen asleep with Shadow Milks head still hanging on close to his shoulder.
Only a few more days. The War would start in the Dark Cacao Kingdom, and terror would ravage the land. Pure Vanillas reign could even come to an end.
Pure Vanilla grabbed a nearby pillow carefully, placing it under Shadow Milk to act as himself so he could finally get up. He had lots to do, and there was no time to be cuddling, even if it something he would much rather do.
Lots of to do with very, very little time.
This exact thought has been emphasized and remised in his mind over and over again, but it never got old. It was true.
Doves flew over the Kingdom, their flight gentle and calming.
Despite the large amount of chatter in the markets and what seemed to even be a sense of panic amongst all the civilians, Pure Vanilla could hear his footsteps. He had gone out on another walk to see what was going on before he wrote letters to his friends about the next steps forward.
Black Raisin Cookie was still doing all of her duties and readying up the soldiers for battle, Strawberry Crepe Cookie had been working on the wafflebots as usual, Shadow Milk had been working hard as well, despite his current nap… Everyone else was hard at work. Almost all of the civilians seemed to be frantic, trying to fill their hearts with something more calming to distract their currently miserable minds.
Nothing really worked. Not for anyone.
The chirping birds didn’t ease anyones mind, nor their heart. The constant reassuring helped very little. At least in the long run, that is.
A thing such as literature could help Pure Vanilla, but he had lots of letters to write and lots of paperwork to read and sign. Reading and writing did help him before in times of stress, but his workaholic mindset could never go away. It even started to show in his rough sleep schedule too.
As he walked back into his room, Shadow Milk was still asleep in his bed, his face peaceful and full of nothing but serenity. The Ancient set the books he had picked up from the library just a short time ago on the desk to the side of him; Where his constant pressuring feeling would always pick up.
And to that, he spent the next few hours carefully examining every single detail of the paperwork he had been assigned, making sure not to leave a single thing out of place as well when he signed it. He would also leave notes on the side of the paper, hopeful that the person receiving it would read it each time.
Shadow Milk did finally wake up during the middle of it, but he kept quiet most of the time. He even grabbed a book and sat down beside Pure Vanillas chair on the softwood floor, reading it with divine attention. The literature was engraved into his mind, every little word not going unnoticed. The author has been given several awards in the past, and he was quite famous for his excellent use in his prose, which it showed greatly.
Even as the former Cookie of Knowledge, even he turned out impressed.
Pure Vanilla didn’t question his silence, and more so embraced it graciously as it allowed him to actually get things done without his attention breaking.
Everything has been so serene so far, and there was no sign of anything going wrong even in the near future, when war would rage.
After a few calm hours, Shadow Milk and Pure Vanilla decided to take a look outside, to wander around the markets. It felt as endless as his time as Fount, if he were to be fully honest. All these months he had spent wandering around the markets and kingdom in general; with or without Pure Vanilla.
Despite the frantic behavior of the civilians, they made sure to greet both Pure Vanilla and Shadow Milk kindly. Shadow Milk was….questionable, but they have grown rather used to him. At least to the point that they’re no longer frightened anymore, that is.
The letters that Pure Vanilla wrote had already been sent out for delivery, to which he hopes that they arrive as soon as possible so he can keep in touch with his friends during this excruciatingly difficult time. It had already been a few hours since then.
The air was growing more dense.
Due to the Vanilla Kingdom being in the air, it had always been difficult to get a big, deep breath of air in…As stated many times before, however this was different. It was growing harder to breathe. Slowly.
The doves continued to glide through the air.
The wind picked up.
‘Everything was fine’, Shadow Milk continued to repeat to himself. He wondered if Pure Vanilla had noticed yet. His body language showed discomfort, an instability in emotion as per usual. An enraging anxiety that filled his heart and his veins both.
His skin.
A sharp pain caused Shadow Milk to immediately jump back in fear. A spell. A magic spell certainly casted by none other than a Dark Magic wielder, of course. None other than the beasts. Specifically Silent Salt Cookie. Shadow Milks eyes widen greatly, his hand brushing over the injury, which caused the pain to grow even more. He winced, the wound burning.
A Blueberry Cookie, Wounded.
The smell in the air was vivid. Everything became so overwhelming, overpowering all of Shadow Milks senses. He felt as if his head was being controlled, as if his decisions were not his own.
It brought him back to the worst memories as Fount.
Paralyzed by fear, he found himself unable to move, feeling extremely dizzy. Pure Vanillas eyes widened as well, grabbing Shadow Milks shoulder immediately. He looked terrified. 'Impossible. Its not happening now, is it?' He thought to himself, but his thoughts were loud and it showed on his face. The civillians had to process what was even going on, but in what felt like a split second—Everyone was in panic. The children, loud and thinking irrationally. However, they can not truly be blamed. Nobody is really thinking irrationally as of now.
The Ancient turned to look at where the shot of magic came from, to see the beasts in the air. They all seemed to be floating due to a force. And on ground, Dark Enchantress Cookies army, fast approaching, at what can be considered a rapid speed. The stars felt as if they were all falling, Shadow Milks body betraying him and falling to the ground.
Has he always been this weak? Shadow Milk wondered, questioning his own ability. He needs to prove his worth.
Pure Vanilla was in a state of shock, Black Raisin Cookie yelling out for the soliders to prepare for battle. Quickly. Pure Vanilla couldn't hear a word anyone was saying, his own ears starting to even ring at the sound of all the sudden noise.
The sky was a vivid red, just as red as the blood that was strawberry tinted. The birds have been long gone, seemingly as they sensed the nearby danger.
"Pure Vanilla Cookie!"
"Pure Vanilla Cookie!!"
Shadow Milk called out, regaining his own balance even if it was slightly forced.
"Pure Vanilla Cookie, we need to fight! We can do it, I promise!"
His own optimism intruiged Pure Vanilla. What a change in attitude, he thought.
"Shadow Milk Cookie...Let's give it our absolute all."
The Beast of Deceit nodded his head almost somewhat aggressively, his expression full of anger and fear at the same time. He gave the Ancient a quick kiss on the cheek before he quickly went out to attack. Pure Vanilla followed closely behind, using his full strength and the full extent of power that his Souljam offers. The battles were brutal, blood drawing at every single one. Pure Vanilla hated violence, and desperately wanted to understand Dark Enchantress Cookie just as he did with Shadow Milk, but it was impossible. Dark Enchantress Cookie had no intentions of ever opening up, if she even had anything to open up about.
White Lily Cookie and her are different. Complete different Cookies, actually. What if Dark Enchantress Cookie is simply just pure evil? The idea lingered in Pure Vanillas head for a second as he turned to face the beasts with Shadow Milk Cookie, but it quickly dissapeared. There is now a new and even greater threat ahead of them.
Dark Enchantress Cookies army was not easy to beat, but not hard either. There were still lots of soliders fighting, with lots more on the floor. Blood traveled down, and it ached Pure Vanilla. He felt as if he was going to vomit.
Eternal Sugar Cookie.
She had wanted nothing more than to protect her beloved cookies, yet no matter what, they would always crumble. Her happiness was short lasting, and felt that if she created a garden that nobody could leave, her adored cookies could be happy forever, and every single day of waking would be a fluffy dream. Sugarfly Cookie did not particulary enjoy being trapped in the garden, though she was practically brainwashed so it was immensely difficult to convince her other wise. Her poor wings, coated in syrup. Pure Vanilla was glad she could escape, even if Pavlova Cookie was doomed to suffer forever.
Burning Spice Cookie.
Being the Herald of Change, no matter what he did, kingdoms would rise and fall. This change certainly was change, but it was a constant cycle that he was stuck in for supposedly forever, being immortal. It drove him insane, just as all the other beasts were by their own purpose as well. He finally felt happy and accomplished when he destroyed something with his own hands. It felt nice, causing destruction instead of enabling construction. He felt as if the cycle was broken. That just like Shadow Milk Cookie, he had taken control of his life.
Mystic Flour Cookie.
The Beast of Apathy. Her cookies were filled with selfish greed, pushing and shoving just to have their wish be the one granted next. Simply just wishing for a break and nothing but the well being and happiness of the cookies, she wrapped herself in her cocoon. However, an unknown cookie had spread a false rumor that the cocoon was filled with treasures, and her place of rest was forcibly ripped open. She had done nothing but grant every last wish they had asked of her, offering them nothing but the bliss they seeked. And yet, in the end, they all treated her like she was nothing.
Silent Salt Cookie.
He was originally given the title of the Virtue of Solidarity, the cookies being united under one. Support with one another, helping all of them out. However, Silent Salt Cookie fell deep into the horrible abyss of the truth. The witches and their little secrets. Expected to keep that secret, he eventually started a cult called the St. Pastry Order, that would kill any cookie that gets in their way or reveals anything of the truth about the witches. Silence was all that remained in the end. His followers were forced to keep silent about everything, not being able to have freedom the same way White Lily Cookie is.
They all had such big differences, and had felt as this knowledge of them from just hearing about his friends stories during Beast Yeast. He didn't just feel ultimate compassion for Shadow Milk Cookie, but he felt this understanding for all of the Beast Cookies. None of them were exempt.
"Beasts." Pure Vanilla stood in front of them, ready to face them in battle. Shadow Milk followed behind, finally catching up after fighting off another one of those huge cakehounds that supposedly Red Velvet Cookie had tamed. He had a bit of blood dripping down from his knee, but he payed it no mind.
"Ah, its Shadow Milk and his other-half~ What pleasure do we owe you?" Eternal Sugar Cookie spoke in a somewhat mocking manner, one that Shadow Milk scoffed at, rolling his eyes as well. Her eyes narrowed, showing a fake sense of kindness.
"We are truly devestated that you have decided to betray us, Shadow Milk Cookie. Let the destruction reign against you."
"Is it hot? Yeah, yeah, bring it on." Shadow Milk sarcastically mocked, his facial expression intimidating and meant to be feared. He grinned, not caring about the aches all over his body and the cracks all over him.
Shadow Milk notioned to Pure Vanilla to begin the battle, to which Pure Vanilla agreed with only a slight bit of hesitance.
The fight lasted a long while. The forces of the beasts all combined were ultimately too strong, but it got even worse once another enemy joined in.
Dark Enchantress Cookie herself.
Shadow Milk quietly gasped, on the floor next to Pure Vanilla as the ground began to crumble slowly. Dark Enchantress Cookie made quite an entrance.
"Oh my," She started, exaggerating her movements. Shadow Milk felt mocked. "Well look who it is. I see its the one who sealed me away in this very Kingdom, and the one who betrayed all of his fellow allies. Just as Eternal Sugar said, it really is quite an honor."
"From now on, your Souljams will be ours."
Pure Vanilla felt confused, but then realized that she had no means of sharing the Souljam. It was merely a decieving trick to betray the other Beasts in the end. Selfish, cruel. Power hungry. The words formed in Pure Vanillas head, fitting her character extremely well.
"Pure Vanilla...Split up! I'll defeat Burning Spice first, you fight one of the others!" Shadow Milk yelled out, Pure Vanilla nodding in acceptance. The soliders in Pure Vanillas army began to fight again as well, and Pure Vanilla started to fight some of the other Beasts along with them. The fight between Burning Spice and Shadow Milk was brutal, considering Shadow Milk usually was the one to fight the weakest one in battles first. However, there is not really any 'weak' cookies amongst all of the Beasts, making it difficult to make up his own mind and think rationally.
Shadow Milk recharged his energy from his other realm, landing loads of Dark Moon Magic onto him in a frenzy.
"Gah..!"
Shadow Milk exclaimed, his throat burning up. His skin was almost sizzling, nothing like before. The pain spread throughout his entire body, his veins feeling as if they were about to pop. He was thrown back onto the slowly crumbling ground, debris floating around everywhere. He could of sworn he felt one of his bones crack.
....
He breathed heavily, his eyes wide and his body unable to move yet again. Burning Spice approached him with an unamused look, already bored at his 'easy' victory.
"You've grown silent." He commented, Shadow Milk continuing to just stare at the ground and not say anything. He couldn't even if he wanted to.
"....And pathetic." Burning Spice landed his very last insult at him, before ripping the Souljam off of Shadow Milks brooch and turning around. His footsteps were loud, so loud. The ground felt like it could crumble at any moment for Shadow Milk, despite still being quite stirdy enough to at least move around on.
Shadow Milks fragile and weak body felt as if it was about to collapse, and without his Souljam, he would lose his immortality. He didn't feel as if it was an entirely terrible thing, but losing his Souljam definitely was. This was the one way he did not want to crumble.
"Aah..!!" Pure Vanilla yelled, landing on the ground as well. Lots of Pure Vanillas soliders were still fighting the Beasts and Dark Enchantress Cookie, but the two just could simply not take it anymore. Both of their bodies have betrayed them greatly.
"Shadow..Milk..Did they take your Souljam too?" Pure Vanilla asked with fear and desperation laced in his voice. Shadow Milk could only stare at him with wide, terrified eyes, before letting out a simple "Yes." Pure Vanilla let out a heavy sigh, looking back at him with widened eyes aswell; His eyes twinkled, tears starting to form and drop down his cheeks immensely. He couldn't help but just sob. Both of their Souljams were gone, and they both had no more energy to continue on fighting. He dosen't know when, but at some point Shadow Milk started crying too.
Future Healer Cookie floated over the two of them, his own body still glowing as well. Except this time, nobody could see him. Not even Pure Vanilla. The truth is, from this point foward— Pure Vanillas dreams no longer existed. Future Healer Cookie would continue to live on in his memory for as long as he lives, to live on with his energy and soul forever. However, one day his existence would be completely wiped. Nobody will remember him, but as long as he existed, his soul will always be in the dust. Wherever Pure Vanillas energy goes, he will go.
Everything and everyone must come to an end one day, after all.
Shadow Milk and Pure Vanilla pressed their foreheads together, as Pure Vanilla used the very last of his magic to heal Shadow Milk so he could live for at least a little while longer. "Shadow Milk...I'm really sorry. For failing you, for failing everyone....Please forgive me. Please forgive me....I really did my best, Shadow Milk."
"Pure Vanilla....No, No.."
"Dont say you're sorry! You...I love you, with all my heart. Theres nothing I want more than to just be here with you forever. Please dont apologize, Pure Vanilla. Please. I beg you." Shadow Milk started weeping harder, mourning this loss.
"...I love you too, Shadow Milk Cookie. You have brung me immense happiness ever since you've moved in with me. All these memories we've shared together, the good and the bad....The depressing and the happiest...They are all just as meaningful to me. You have shown me what true love is. I wish I could've gotten to you repay you somehow, I really do..."
Shadow Milk started screaming, tears caught up in his throat, causing him to choke on his own tears. He sobbed into Pure Vanilla, as he embraced Shadow Milk closely, with his hands wrapped against him. He was
extremely warm, just how Shadow Milk liked it.
"I dont want it to end...Not like this!! I..I just cant accept this...! This cant be, please...Pure Vanilla...Tell me this is all a hoax. Please...Im begging you, Im begging you.." He whimpered, pain still consuming his body as he was full of tears, sobbing right in Pure Vanillas arms. The pain was too much to handle.
"I thought..I thought that Dark Cacaos Kingdom was first..Why, why is this happening?! It was meant to be a complete different date..!"
".....It appears it was a surprise attack. Those letters..." Pure Vanilla smiled softly, tears still streaming down his face.
"I....I...." Shadow Milk couldn't even find any more words to say.
All he could was weep. Mourn. Dissapear into Pure Vanillas arms.
"Shadow Milk...I want to thank you one last time. Thank you for all those warm, happy memories...And for the sad, depressing, and cold memories as well..Thank you for accepting my 'friendship'....Thank you for marrying me. Thank you for everything. Never forget....Just..." Cough. "How much...I love you."
And with that, they shared a deep kiss. Tender and delicate, as always. It pained Shadow Milk greatly. The long lasting taste of Vanilla from his lips, sweet and making him blush every time they kissed....This time, it only brought him despair. He closed his eyes, tears continuing to stream down and even get caught in his hair a little bit. The soliders around kept fighting the forces of the Beasts and Dark Enchantress Cookie.
It only took about a minute or so, but Pure Vanilla began to crumble even more. And in the end of everything, his eyes began to finally shut, for the very last time.
Shadow Milk just stared. His tears and sobs got in the way of his words, them being caught in his throat.
Future Healer Cookie floated above the two, his own tears penetrating the area. A small, soft smile cracked onto his lips. And for the last and final time, he turned to the dust, too.
Shadow Milk screamed in terror, though to no avail. He could do nothing else but continue to lay there and sob the night away. The only person who could understand him, especially to the fullest extent. He's gone. Theres no coming back. Theres no more dates. Theres no ring, no marriage. No hope. No understanding. If it just had gone according to plan, they could be getting married right now. Pure bliss on their faces, Shadow Milks arms swung around Pure Vanilla and even being bridal carried.
But theres none of that. Just a now empty landscape, a vivid blood-like red sky, his friends possibly laying around dead too. His own lover laying in front of him, his eyes refusing to open.
"....The only one who understands.." He said, choking out another sob.
Eventually, he began to collapse. Pure Vanillas magic had ran off by now, and he could feel his eyes forcing themselves shut. His eyelids heavy. He let out a sigh, tears still streaming down his face as the others began to dry. His breathing started to slow down, and eventually came to a halt. His face was replaced with peacefulness; Probably just as Pure Vanilla would of wanted. No screaming, no despair, no tears...
Just peace.
Was there truly any hope to begin with, in this bright red scenery of despair?
But at least in their final moments; Shadow Milk was able to stay by Pure Vanillas side until the very end.
And even though their story might have ended here...
The book is definitely not closed just yet.
Their energy, their souls....They are intertwined. They are destined to meet in every universe.
Future Healer Cookie will continue to exist, in the future, in the past, in the present. In every universe, no matter what. Shadow Milk and Pure Vanillas bodies coddled and cuddled together as they traveled through space together, almost as if preforming a waltz, while in their purest forms. They both kept their eyes shut, but they could feel it. Each others heart warming presence. It filled both of them with joy.
"Ah..! Oh, I'm sorry... I didn't mean to, I swear! Let me help you.." Healer Cookie gasped, frantically picking up all the books in a panic. The Mysterious Cookie in front of him just watched with an irritated and confused expression on her face.
"Uh..Here you go. Im really sorry again..." Healer Cookie bowed slightly, apologizing with deep concern and no hesitancy whatsoever.
The Mysterious Cookie just watched him, probably degrading him in her mind.
"...I never got your name. May I ask?"
"..Blueberry Farmer Cookie." She replied after about thirty seconds, seemingly contemplating her answer.
Healer Cookie smiled, to which Blueberry Farmer Cookie slowly smiled right back at him.
"Well, its nice to meet you. I hope we can be good friends in the future.." Healer Cookie responded back nervously, almost trembling.
Blueberry Farmer Cookie nodded.
~
In the end, immortality does not have to always mean forever. But it can mean that the love lasts forever.
As long as you keep that love alive, your soul will live for eternity.
Throughout thousands and thousands of different universes filled with tons of different scenarios, Shadow Milk and Pure Vanilla are always waiting. Waiting for each other.
"Maybe you weren't so lonely after all?"
That will live on in his head forever.
Future Healer Cookie watched from afar, the stars twinkling and the moonlight setting in.
Someone is always waiting for you.
