Chapter Text
Fire Spirit wanted to die maybe.
As soon as the door closed shut he fell facedown into the couch, groaning.
He threw his can on the floor, knowing it was going to spill, and he was going to have to clean it, and his parents were going to scold him and ground him for it. That being the best case scenario.
God, could he get any stupider? Wind Archer would probably say no, meaning there’s nothing stupider below him on the scale.
He wanted to kiss that man so bad.
But Wind Archer didn’t reciprocate. He just up and lent. Came and went. If he wasn’t at the lowest point in his life right now, he’d make a dirty joke about that.
Now all he wanted to do was fall asleep and forget about his troubles until tomorrow. Or the day after.
-
Fire Spirit woke up with a pounding headache.
The light was beaming directly into his eyes. The blinds only allowed for that at around midday. That made sense considering his alarm clock batteries ran out a few days ago. He really needed to replace those.
Right.
Fire Spirit braced his arms against the mattress.
3, 2, 1.
He sat up …and immediately laid back down as his head swam with nausea. He felt around in his bedroom drawer before holding up the packet of aspirin triumphantly.
This was going to be a long half-day.
-
Fire Spirit eventually walked into the kitchen, checking the notifications on his phone.
Some from Instagram, some from Discord, none from Wind Archer.
Fire Spirit banged his phone against his head. “Fuck…” He groaned, drawing out the word.
He had made a massive mistake last night. Trying to kiss him? That was so inappropriate and who knew if Wind Archer was even gay? Yes, he admitted to kissing a boy and having a crush on one, but he could’ve easily lied about that to get Fire Spirit to admit the same!
He contemplated just texting Wind Archer himself, but what would he even say?
Hey, sorry I tried to kiss you last night, by any chance are you homophobic?
What did you mean when you said you had a crush on a boy?
When you said ‘not like this’ does that imply you’d like to kiss in a different situation? Which one?
Fire Spirit may be known for being forward, but not when it comes to his own, sensitive , feelings. At least he’ll be able to see Wind Archer at school tomorrow.
Was that a good thing, or a bad thing?
-
Bad. Definitely a bad thing.
The last thing Wind Archer said to him was ‘See you on Monday.’, but it’s Monday, and he is nowhere in sight.
Normally Wind Archer got to school earlier than Fire Spirit, but he wasn’t in any of his usual places. They normally waited for each other by the homeroom classroom, but he wasn’t there. He checked by the lockers, the library - there was zilch!
Had he really messed up that bad?
-
Fire Spirit didn’t see Wind Archer until 3rd period, English class.
They normally sat together at the back, but this time Wind Archer sat up the front by the window. The seat hadn’t even been free, he had to ask someone to move over so he could be there.
Fire Spirit did what any sane person who was being avoided would do and ripped out a sheet of his notebook. He scribbled a message in it and folded it up into a paper plane (not the usual kind people do, but the cool, more aerodynamic kind). He waited for the teacher to turn around and threw it directly at Wind Archer’s head.
Why are you avoiding me?
He watched it land in his hair with a thwip. Wind Archer juddered and felt around on the floor for the paper plane.
Fire Spirit waited nervously as he read the note. He watched even more nervously as Wind Archer began to write on the paper. He then watched with a little more awe as Wind Archer reached behind him and threw the plane to Fire Spirit without looking .
Hot.
Fire Spirit caught it and unfolded it.
Not avoiding you, just sitting here for the aircon.
Fire Spirit swallowed and wrote out his response to fly back.
Can we talk at lunch?
The reply came back quickly.
We have different lunch periods today.
Fire Spirit grimaced. He raised his arm to-
“Boys, are you throwing paper aeroplanes?” The teacher barked.
Fire Spirit paled.
“Mr. Spirit, Mr. Archer, detention!”
-
Wind Archer was already in detention when Fire Spirit arrived. He was sitting in the back this time, doodling in his sketchbook. He glanced up at Fire Spirit and slammed his book shut.
“Hey.” Wind Archer mumbled.
Fire Spirit nodded towards the seat next to him. “Hey. Can I-?”
“Yeah. Sure.” Wind Archer pulled the chair out.
Fire Spirit sat down and slung his backpack off his shoulder.
…
“So, about-”
“So, about-”
“You go first.”
“You go first.”
…
“Okay, you go first.” Fire Spirit said.
“Right. So about last night, I just wanted to say I’m sorry-”
“ You’re sorry?”
Wind Archer blinked at him. “Yeah? I crossed way too many boundaries, and I probably made you really uncomfortable.”
“No- no, I made you uncomfortable! I almost kissed you!” Fire Spirit exclaimed.
Wind Archer glanced to the teacher supervising them. He was snoring into his newspaper.
“That’s not- you were drunk. I was drunk.”
“Which is exactly why you don’t have to be sorry!”
“Same goes for you.”
Fire Spirit sighed, leaning back in his chair. “What did-… what did you mean? You know, when you said ‘not like this’?”
Wind Archer blushed and turned his head. “I-”
“…If you don’t want to be friends anymore, I understand.”
Wind Archer blanched. “No! No- it’s- no. We can-… when I said ‘not like this’ I meant…. I do want to kiss you, just- not when I’m drunk. I want to be sober, uninhibited.”
“Oh.” Fire Spirit felt his jaw loosen.
“Unless- that’s not what you want. If that’s the case, then just ignore what I said.”
“No! Not at all, I definitely also want to kiss you. A lot. And when uninhibited.”
Wind Archer blushed. “Do you want to then? Kiss? Like, now?”
Fire Spirit tapped his chin. “I have an idea.”
-
Fire Spirit sprinted to where his car was in the parking lot, Wind Archer trailing behind him.
“C’mon! We gotta get out of here before Mr. Almond wakes up!” Fire Spirit laughed.
“This is so exhilarating!” Wind Archer yelped.
“I know, right!” Fire Spirit opened the passenger car door before running over to his side and clambering in.
“What a gentleman!” Wind Archer laughed, climbing in his own seat.
Fire Spirit grinned at him and within a matter of minutes they were arriving at the cliff overlooking the school.
Fire Spirit opened Wind Archer’s car door for him, offering out his arm. “M’lady.”
Wind Archer grinned and looped his arm in Fire Spirit’s. “M’lord.”
“C’mon there’s a bench up here. The view is amazing.” Fire Spirit said as he tugged Wind Archer along.
Wind Archer mirrored Fire Spirit’s cross legged seat on the bench.
“So, you wanted to kiss me in front of a backdrop?” Wind Archer smirked.
Fire Spirit nodded. “It’s much more romantic than a drunk kiss.”
“I’m inclined to agree.”
They were silent for a few moments, awkwardly twiddling their thumbs.
Wind Archer spoke up. “So how are we sup- mph !”
Fire Spirit cut him off with a kiss. Wind Archer melted into it easily, a hand cupping the nape of Fire Spirit’s neck.
They pulled away gingerly.
Fire Spirit watched nervously as Wind Archer’s eyes widened.
“How was that?”
Wind Archer broke out into a huge smile. The most beautiful smile Fire Spirit had ever seen. “Perfect.”
Fire Spirit grinned and let Wind Archer take him in another kiss.
