Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Have you ever wondered how the universe was created?

The start of the universe was not an explosion like so many scientists have claimed. It was a slow expansion willed into creation by two very powerful Entities. These Entities have gone by many names, almost none chosen by Themselves. The simplest way to describe Them in a way that a mortal would understand would be Primordial Gods. The answer that They would give is that They Are All and They Are None. I simply call Them Watchers. Now I know that that doesn’t make much sense to mortals but, then again, They Themselves are not mortal. Mortals could never fully comprehend what They are.

Now you must be wondering how I know this. The simple answer is that I became One. I was simultaneously there and not there for The Creation, as They would call it. I hope that by telling this story I will be able to help any Others struggling with themselves.

—————————

I suppose I should start with where my life became complicated. Let’s start simply by saying High School was an absolute mess. I had just recently reconnected with some friends I hadn’t seen since I was a young child, after my parents had sent me to Japan to avoid the mess that was their divorce. They never came back for me. I was 7. Things started getting strange only a couple weeks into me moving to my friend’s High School. I had finally begun to settle into a comfortable routine, then my best friend’s girlfriend was found dead on the street.

It had come as a shock to our whole class, except, oddly, my only other friend. As we all stood there watching Taurtis grieving, Sam had a rather suspicious expression. He seemed almost amused at everyone’s reactions. I really wish I listened to my instincts and got myself and Taurtis out of that town as quickly as I could.

Unfortunately, this was not something I did and more people ended up dying. I knew who was behind it all. Sam and his wretched girlfriend Yuki. They had killed so many people. They forced so many people to hurt others, myself included. I had lost count of how many lives I ended in that year of school.

I had eventually managed to escape that hell. Unfortunately, I headed straight into another hell. This one of my own making, technically. I had gathered a few close friends onto a server of my own. We decided to have some fun with it and went back to a much simpler time in the universe's history, where there was not much to do. We were having fun.

Things changed when we noticed that we were not the only beings inhabiting that world. Those beings were the aforementioned Watchers. We hadn’t thought much on the strange occurrences that plagued our world. We had simply thought that they were simply just quirks of our land. This was not the case.

They had taken notice of, what They considered, strange magic in our world. I would later come to learn that the magic They were sensing was my own, calling out to Them. It was written into the very fabric of the universe that I was to become One of Them, They just didn’t know when.

As time moved on, stranger and stranger things started happening on our world, as They made Their presence known to us. They had us separated. They made it so that we each fought our own Ender Dragon. At the end of my own fight, I realised that They had singled me out. I didn’t know why at the time but I eventually learned what They wanted.

They took me from my own world and showed me Everything. I learned what it meant to be Everything and Nothing All at Once. It didn’t even feel overwhelming, because I was always supposed to Know. I had always Known, I just hadn’t learned Anything yet.

Ah. I suppose I should introduce myself. I am Known as Xelqua, The Embodiment of Chaos and Order. I exist alongside Xanthius, Known as Space and Matter, and Xanxus, Known as Time and Emptiness. Although I supposed you’d Know me by a different Name. I think it might be easier for you to call me Grian, resident mischievous prankster and local pesky bird of Hermitcraft. And this is where this story begins.
