Chapter Text
Index of Sandman relations and characters to understand this fic fully.
If you are aware of the events and characters from “The Sandman” novels and series, then you can skip on the index.
If you’re only here from "Dead Boy Detectives", I DO recommend reading through it.
The index will get updated with the progression of the work!!
Relevant characters for tchapters 1-3:
Dream of the Endless – the third of the Endless; the titular character of “The Sandman”, king of Dreams and Nightmares; imprisoned in the human realm for a 100 years resulting in a sickness plaguing the waking world called Encephalitis Lethargica (the sleepy sickness). His release trigger the events of the entire series; has a son named Orpheus (from the myth). (mate, it’s 13 volumes, trust it’s not worth all that, just know he will pop up for a second at some point)
Orpheus - son of Dream of the Endless and Calliope (mentioned in episode 11 of the Sandman)
Lucienne - the Royal Librarian of the Dreaming, Dream of The Endless' domain. She is the second in command and is in charge of the Library - the most important place in the entire realm. In the Dreaming library everything exists - stories that have been created, those that haven't, those that were only ever dreamed of and all sorts of objects pertaining to magic and stories. (Reference: episode 7 "The Sandman")
Fiddler's Green - sentient part of the Dreaming which all travelers - especially sailors - apparently dream of someday finding. This dream sometimes likes to take human form, and go wandering. He used the alias Gilbert during these trips. Furthermore, he is known to sailors as Paradise on Earth. (source: Sandman wiki, I was too lazy) (Reference: episode 10 "The Sandman")
The Kindly Ones/The Furies/The Three - The Three, or the Kindly Ones (as they prefer to be called), are a trio of goddesses consisting of the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone. As the Furies, they persecuted oath-breakers, patricides, matricides, and other violators of divine law. Their relentless pursuit manifested in several ways, one of the most severe being the inducing of tormenting, self-destructive madness. They are also the doubts in a person's mind (have you watched Hadestown?) (reference: episode 2 of "The Sandman")
Desire of the Endless – fifth of the Endless; monarch of desires and all of its facets; due to events revealed in book 11 “Endless Nights” the relationship between Dream and Desire is deeply soured; they were once extremely close; Desire’s one goal is to see Dream draw family blood which will result in a divine punishment. (Reference: episode 10 “The Sandman”)
Death of the Endless – second of the Endless; she is the voice of reason in the family and is very close to Dream (Reference: episode 6 “The Sandman”)
Bast – the goddess Bastet who has a very close friendship with Dream throughout the series; she is also portrayed to be a god on the brink of death due to the lack of worship for her being (Reference: volume 7 “Brief Lives”)
Johanna Constantine – a London exorcist, familiar with demons, ghosts and Hell (Reference: episode 3 of “The Sandman”)
Mad Hettie – a recurring character in the Sandman; she is 247 years old and although we do not know much about her canonically, she is aware and involved with the supernatural events in London (Reference: issue/episode 3 of “The Sandman”)
IN CONCLUSION:
DREAM AND DESIRE HAVE BEEF!!! That’s actually the gist of all you need to know in order to understand this fic!
