Tuesday: Alt Prompt: Sing Along if You Still Know the Words

Summary:

Cocoa Collabs Day 2 Alt Prompt: Sing Along if You Still Know the Words (music)

Notes:

Day two, let's go! Everyone did sweet and emotional hugging and I couldn't bring myself to be that sappy or angsty so here's an alt prompt for your reading pleasure!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Alvina was at her wits' end. The Interviewer had been blasting some kind of punk rock music that was weirdly mixed with folk songs and also somehow the Tetris theme. It had been going on non-stop for the past two hours while she had been trying to file some paperwork. She finally decided to figure out what was going on.

She made her way from her office over to The Interviewer’s. The racket only got louder when she opened the door. What she found shouldn’t have surprised her. The Interviewer was singing along with whatever track was playing while dancing quite badly. He didn’t seem to notice the interruption until the track stopped.

“Oh! Alvina, I didn’t hear you come in,” he exclaimed in surprise.

“No one in the office can hear anything with the racket you’re making.”

“It’s not a racket! It’s only my newest favorite band!” He sounded quite offended.

“Okaaay, explain this one to me."

“Remember that odd fellow that came in the other week? Well, his new identity included being in a band. Part of the payment I requested was early demos of their work. And I'm quite glad I did! The music is splendid! It contains so many stories!”

“Right…”

“Look, the album is all connected! It tells a long form story! I do hope this catches on, it’s quite a fascinating way to make music!”

“You do know that musicals exist?”

“Yes, yes, but those are intended to be seen as well as heard. This is only meant to be heard, it’s fascinating!”

“Ok, well, I’m glad you’ve found something to cure your boredom for the time being, but could you do it a bit quieter? Some of us actually work, you know.”

“Oh, all right, I’ll turn it down. And it really has kept the boredom at bay. No new clients since this last one, it’s been nearly ten millennia!”

“It’s been ten days.”

“Well, it feels like millennia.”

“Sure it does. Tell you what, let me finish some filing and then you can tell me all about… umm, what is this band called?”

“The Mechanisms! It’s an odd name to be sure, but they sound great!”

“Ok, give me two more hours, and then you can tell me all about them.”

“It’s a date!”
