Chapter Text
You needed caffeine.
Your job took a lot out of you, and it only seemed to get more demanding. Unfortunately for you, Moon was well-versed on the side effects of it, and hated the idea of you having energy drinks or even coffee.
Sun had sided with his counterpart, refusing to let you buy anything of the sort.
Tea was only an exception because Moon could use it to get you to sleep as well. Nontheless, you simply accepted your tea-fueled life and went on. But work only got harder with schedules that had no remorse. It paid the bills, sure, but your sleeping habits were sure as hell not a sight for your sore eyes.
Or optics.
Moon was surprisingly good at making blends, able to add the perfect amount of chamomile or lavender or whatever he put into his concoctions.
A nice cup to warm your hands while you sat in bed was sometimes all the motivation you needed to get through a hard day. Or week. Or month…
Your keys jingled as they drifted across the cold counter. It took all of the power you had left not to collapse onto the floor and sob until the aching in your heart and stomach and feet and everywhere all just went away.
By now, you figured that at least one of the animatronics had noticed. You avoided the mirror as much as possible because whatever looked back at you was either a zombie or an alien and you didn’t want to find out which.
You were well aware that you weren’t okay and your job was at fault. But what could you do about it? This was what everyone dealt with, right? You weren’t going to recieve any special treatment for being a regular member of society.
Except for the fact that most regular members of society did not have two robots living in their home.
Moon gently placed his book aside as he acknowledged that you were home. Before welcoming you in, he took a small glance at you. You were zoning out, darkness circling the underside of your blankly staring eyes.
You had been looking awful all week; Moon could barely remember the last time he saw you eat a proper meal.
And he was going to do something about it.
You jumped as Moon suddenly appeared next to you.
“You don’t look well.”
Guess you couldn’t hide forever.
“I’m fine, just didn’t sleep well last night..” you trailed off.
“Like you didn’t the other night? Or the night before that? Or the night before that..?” his voice rumbled as his red pinprick pupils further took in your tired features.
“It’s been a hard week is all, Moon. I’ll be fine. Promise.” You forced up a smile.
It took all of his strength not to confront you then and there.
“Whatever you say, Starlight.” he muttered simply. You weren’t fooling him, you suppose.
You were laying on the couch watching TV to try to forget about the horrors that were your work life. Good thing it was a Friday, you don’t think you could handle another day there. Moon was in your bedroom, doing… something. Talking with Sun, maybe? Where was Sun, anyways?
“Sunshine?”
You caught sight of Sun to your left fidgeting with his hands. Not a good sign.
“Me and Moon want to talk with you.”
He spoke softly. Almost too softly.
You both stared at each other for a mildly uncomfortable time. You were frozen, millions of thoughts wrapped around your head. Had you done something wrong? Were they leaving you? Were they broken?
He sprung his hand forward, jittery from his nervousness. You tenderly took it as he slowly guided you to your bedroom. The lamp was off, but the hanging moon fairy lights twinkled behind Moon’s figure. Your heart raced in fear. Gosh, you’d really done it now.
His fingers unconsciously danced around the ball at the end of his nightcap as Moon looked up to you. He pat at an empty spot on the blanket and glanced to you. His hands lingered there until Sun took the first step forward and sat next to him. You let go of Sun’s hand, but trailed behind him. When the two were looking to you expectantly, you finally set yourself onto the soft bed.
Moon hummed your name before he began.
“You haven’t been sleeping well. The bags under your eyes only get deeper as the days go on.”
“And you haven’t been eating either!” Sun interjected, “ Or drinking water at all.”
“Is that what this is about?” You almost laughed. Guess you just needed to comfort them again. You could do that. You hated the prospect of lying to them, but worrying them sounded worse, so you’d manage. “I promi-“
“ No.”
Oh.
Oh.
You weren’t going to win this one.
“You aren’t sleeping, eating, drinking water. You aren’t taking care of yourself! You aren’t okay! Why can’t you see that..?”
Guilt ebbed away at you, hearing Sun speak like that. So afraid, anxious. He didn’t sound like himself.
You looked down at your knees.
Would it…
Would it be the end of the world if you told them the truth? You couldn’t quite see another way out of this. Might as well give it a shot.
“Work has been exhausting,” you started. They sat, silent. They were.. just listening to you. Listening to you speak and hearing you.
That was new.
“I feel like nothing I do is ever enough. I’m losing sleep worrying about the next day.”
You paused to come to the realization that telling the truth wasn’t as hard as you thought. They weren’t criticizing you or yelling at you. They were just listening. Your shoulders slowly dropped as the words came more naturally.
“I get so worried about it that I forget to eat or drink water. I stopped eating at lunch, I just keep working. They keep putting so much pressure on me, but I’m doing everything I can! I’m struggling and they just keep giving me more and more . I just… can’t take this anymore.”
You licked your dry and cracking lips to taste salty tears. Sun and Moon were silent for a long while. Had you said too much?
You flinched as Sun reached forward to wrap his arms around you and pull you closer to him. The soft whirring of his fans were the only sound besides the occasional sniffle or sob from you. He held you for a while, no words needed. The warm embrace said it all for him.
When you finally stopped crying, your throat ached and your eyelids were like weights.
Your door softly creaked as it opened. Moon closes it behind him with his heel before walking up to you and offering you a cold glass of water.
“Thank you,” you softly croaked out. He hummed in response before laying back down on the bed.
“Thank you for sharing with us,” he stated.
“It’s okay to tell us when you’re struggling,” Sun added, “we won’t see you differently.”
“We can help you now that we know,” you looked up to see pairs of white and red gazing at you with care.
You smiled back at them. “But it is your bedtime, Starlight,” Moon gently reminded you.
“Can you help me sleep tonight?”
“Of course.”
You woke up to the sight of an empty bedroom. Maybe last night was a dream, you sleepily wondered. You gave your arms a good stretch before swinging your legs over the side of your bed onto the floor.
In the kitchen, Sun was making something. Eggs? Moon was there too, staring at a steaming cup.
You walked up to them before asking, “Is that my favorite type of tea?”
Moon looked to you and nodded. “And Sun is making scrambled eggs.”
Sun smiled and gave a quick wave before returning to the pan.
You pointed towards the couch to gesture that you’d be waiting there and Moon only turned away.
It wasn’t very long until the celestial animatronics walked up to you, Sun holding a plate and Moon holding a cup. Your favorite mug, you noted.
You glanced to the breakfast as Sun placed it down on the coffee table before heading back to the kitchen for more things. There were scrambled eggs with salt and pepper on top, and Moon handed you a freshly brewed tea with your favorite blend.
You took in the lovely aroma and watched Moon sit down next to you. Sun came back holding a bottle of ketchup and a jar of honey.
He placed both down before asking if you wanted ketchup on the side of your plate or drizzled on top of your eggs. Still in a half-asleep state, you didn’t think to ask how he knew you loved ketchup on your eggs despite never telling him.
You gave your answer and picked up your fork to start eating.
After some bites, you felt a tap on your shoulder.
Moon raised the golden jar and a teaspoon.
“Honey?”
“Yes, darling?”
