Work Text:
As Phoenix has gotten older, he’s noticed that he isn’t too interested in going out, drinking, or partying anymore. After all, he has a kid now (even though said kid is turning eighteen soon and is usually away on her tours—the point still stands), so he often barely has time or energy to even think about going out. Which is a little sad, really, considering he’s only thirty-five.
Unfortunately, even some of those who are close in age with him don’t agree.
“Yooooo, Nick, I’m so glad you actually came out tonight!” Larry says, sitting next to him at the bar that’s far too noisy for Phoenix’s taste. Larry wraps an arm around Phoenix, patting him on the back. “It’s been ages since we hung out, dude.”
“Larry, I literally saw you yesterday.”
“But that was at your place, that doesn’t count.” Larry rolls his eyes. “Come on, man. Live a little.”
Phoenix takes a sip of his drink, already knowing it’s going to be a long night. Still, he tries to be decent enough, even if it is Larry.
“So,” Phoenix starts, desperately trying to think of topics. “How’s it going with that, uh, Larissa?”
“Marissa.” Larry snaps. He then slumps down in his seat. “And, uh, not great. We broke things off.”
Phoenix winces. “Sorry—”
“She didn’t like me taking her out to Olive Garden all the time. Olive Garden. Can you believe that Nick? Even with the unlimited breadsticks and everything!” He shakes his head, taking a swig of his drink. “Unbelievable.”
“Yeah,” Phoenix says, tone dry and looking right at Larry. “Unbelievable.”
“And she didn’t want to hook up there either, which was fine, but she got all weird about it—”
Phoenix chokes on his drink and goes into a coughing fit. “You wanted to what?”
Larry gives him a look and scoffs. “Oh, please. Like you and Edgey haven’t hooked up in semi-public places.”
Face on fire, Phoenix sputters. “Wh—I—” He stops and takes a nice, calming breath. “First of all, I don’t blame her for not wanting to sleep with you at an Olive Garden. Second, how would that even work? And third, that’s none of your business.”
Larry’s face lights up. “See! You two definitely have! Where was it? Oooh, I bet it was at his office you dirty little—”
“Larry.” He hisses, certain his face is tomato red. “Stop it. We never had sex at his office. Or mine,” he adds. Although we did get really close one time…
Face scrunching with confusion, Larry tilts his head. “Wait, you’re telling me you two haven’t done any hanky-panky outside of both of your places?”
Phoenix feels his eye twitch. “Don’t call it that. And yes—because that’s what self-respecting people do. They wait until they’re in a private setting.”
It’s not like Phoenix hasn’t thought about it, though. But his and Edgeworth’s relationship is still fairly new, and he doesn’t want to scare the poor man away, after all. Especially with all the kinks and fantasies Phoenix happens to have.
“Besides,” he continues, “Edgeworth would never. He has way too much self-control for that.”
Larry snorts, making Phoenix frown.
“What? What’s so funny?”
Larry raises his glass of beer to his lips and takes a big gulp. “Dude,” he starts, “have you seen the way he looks at you sometimes? He definitely wants to jump your bones like, ninety percent of the time.”
Phoenix shifts in his seat, voice pitched higher in disbelief. “Wh—No, he doesn’t.”
Shaking his head with an amused look on his face, Larry laughs. “Bro. Remember when you got your badge back and you got that new fancy-lookin’ suit of yours? And we had that party? He looked about two seconds away from tearing it apart and having you right then and there.”
“Why are—why are we even talking about this!?”
Larry leans closer to him, an enthusiastic look on his face. “Because! With the right plays and the right moves, you can have Edgey-boy want you anywhere.”
Phoenix thinks about it. Would it really be such a bad thing?
He shakes himself. The fact of the matter is that Edgeworth has too much poise and grace to ever think about doing something like that. No matter what Phoenix does, Edgeworth could never want him that badly to break the well-earned reputation he’s made.
“Larry,” Phoenix says slowly and patiently. “I get you have it in your head that you’re like, helping me or something, but believe me when I say that Edgeworth wouldn’t do that.”
Larry huffs and crosses his arms. “Well, you aren’t believing me when I say that he would jump your bones anywhere if you tried hard enough! Hell, I bet you a hundred bucks that you could get him to boink you at an Applebee’s. That’s how serious I am about this.”
The refusal is on the tip of his tongue. The words, Larry, no, or even I’m not doing that, but Phoenix doesn’t say anything for a second.
What does he really have to lose? Sure, it might be a bit of a hassle to even get Edgeworth into an Applebee’s, but with the right amount of convincing it could work. It would be an easy win, too—Edgeworth would obviously pick up on what he’d be trying to do and outright tell him no. And honestly, an extra hundred bucks would be nice.
Phoenix turns to Larry, cocky smile on his lips. “You know what? You’re on.”
“Apple…bees?” Edgeworth asks, voice filled with perfectly clear confusion even over the phone. “What a ridiculous name for an eating establishment. I don’t suppose they would have an option for one such as myself there, do they?”
Phoenix snorts as he rustles around in his closet, picking what to wear. “Don’t worry, Chief Prosecutor. They have steak there—I’m sure your refined palate will survive.” Whether the steak is actually good quality or not, he doesn’t need to know.
“Hmph. Very well. I suppose I will join you and Larry during this outing, as I have nothing better to occupy myself with tonight.”
Phoenix pulls out the clothes he decided on wearing, cooing over the phone. “Aw, babe. How sweet of you.” He walks to his bed and lays the clothes out on top. “Oh, and Gumshoe will be joining us too. I thought it would be nice for a boy’s night out, y’know?”
“Yes. A ‘boy’s night out’ at Applebeetles.”
“Applebees.”
“My mistake,” Edgeworth replies, and Phoenix can practically see the slight quirk to his lips as he says it. “Is there anything in particular I should choose to dress myself with?”
It’s cute, really, how seriously Edgeworth is taking this. Then again, everything about him is endearing to Phoenix, so it doesn’t say much. Even when Edgeworth inevitably gets mad at him for taking him to a shitty chain restaurant, Phoenix knows it’ll be hard to keep the affection he feels for the man off of his face.
“Oh, you know.” Phoenix plays it cool, trying not to give anything away in his voice. “It’s a pretty casual place, so I wouldn’t go crazy.”
“No suit and ties, I take it?”
Phoenix huffs, amused. “Nah. I wouldn’t exactly think of it as a black-tie affair.”
Edgeworth lets out a drawn-out sigh. “Very well. It would be nice to have a night out. I presume I’m to pick you up?”
“Don’t worry about that, actually. Larry said he’ll drive me, but then said he’s handing me over to you on the way back.”
“How generous of him.”
Chuckling a little nervously, Phoenix says, “Well. Y’know. That’s Larry for you.” He takes a glance at the time, noting that Larry should be at his place soon. “Welp, I’ll meet you there, okay?”
“Of course. See you then, Wright.”
They say their final goodbyes, and Phoenix hangs up. He lets out a small sigh, feeling slightly guilty about the real reason the four of them were going out for.
It’s not like anything’s going to happen, though. It’ll be an easy hundred bucks! It’s not going to hurt anyone, even if Edgeworth does get a little mad.
It’s been about a week since that night out with Larry—the night when they made the bet together. Larry seemed pretty much at ease with the whole thing, considering it’s his money on the line.
I guess he’s pretty confident. Wrongfully so, but confident.
Phoenix hears a knock at his door. Speak of the devil.
He makes his way to the front door, opening it and moving aside to let Larry in. “It’s weird seeing you on time for once.”
Larry grins at him, stepping in. “What can I say? I guess I’m just excited to make some extra bucks.”
Phoenix lets out a scoff, making his way back to his room, Larry following close behind. “Yeah. Sure. Okay.”
“Hey! Don’t be cranky that you’re not gonna be one winning tonight, man.” Larry stops short behind him once they’re in his room. “What the hell is that?” He asks, pointing on the bed.
“Uh? My clothes?”
“Dude!” Larry exclaims, not looking happy in the slightest. He puts a hand on his hip, looking annoyed. “It’s not fair if you don’t take this seriously!”
Phoenix blinks at him. “What are you talking about? I am—”
“No way, dude. If you’re gonna seduce Edgey, you gotta look the part!” Larry then shoves his way past him, starting to look through his dresser. “You can’t just wear any old crap. You gotta dress to impress!” He seems to find something he’s been looking for and tosses it to Phoenix. “You can wear whatever’s tight enough as a shirt, but you gotta wear this.”
Phoenix unfolds the article of clothing in his hands and starts to sputter as he realizes what they are. “Larry, no. I can’t wear these! They’re too short and way too tight. Maya got me these as a joke.” He winces. “Plus, I think if anybody called the office’s number that’s on the back because of this, Apollo would quit.”
“Nick. You have to. Your legs are like. The hottest thing about you.”
Phoenix squints at him. “I’m not sure if I should take that as a compliment or not. And coming from you it’s a bit disturbing.”
Larry rolls his eyes. “C’mon. Edgey already ogles at your ass when you’re in front of him anyways—”
“Wha—?”
“—so this will definitely help your case.” He smirks. “Or mine, for this bet.”
Now it’s Phoenix’s turn to roll his eyes. “Ugh, fine. Anything else?”
“Be sure to give it your all, man. It’ll be no fun if you don’t try.”
I guess it couldn’t hurt. I’ll just think of it as acting, like in my early college days.
“Fine, fine.” Phoenix starts to slip on the shorts. “Do you think it’s a little weird? That we’re betting on this? It’s a little weird, right?”
Larry jumps on the bed and goes on his phone as he waits. “Yeah, maybe. But it’s a weird bet I’m gonna win, baby!”
Phoenix picks out one of his tighter black t-shirts and puts it on as well. “Ugh, don’t call me that.” With his full outfit on, he looks into the mirror. “Oh my god.”
The red shorts that are incredibly tight on him pop out a bit too much, the words Wright Anything Agency and the office’s number on the back in white letters. He had laughed when Maya first got them for him, but he never thought he would actually wear them.
Larry’s head pops up from his phone. “Oh yeah, that’s what I’m talking about!” He gets up from the bed, pointedly staring at Phoenix’s ass and legs. Phoenix feels stupid.
“I feel stupid,” he says.
“That’s ‘cause you are, dude, if you think Edgey won’t bone you when you’re in this!”
Phoenix gives him a withering look. “I don’t think you know Edgeworth as well as you think.”
Larry shrugs. “Maybe I don’t. But maybe you don’t, either.” Before Phoenix can respond, Larry checks his phone and says, “Come on! We gotta go. Papa’s got a bet to win.” Phoenix then jumps with a yelp as he feels something hit his ass, and then Larry’s running out the door.
“LARRY—”
“I’ll meet you in the car, Nicky!”
Phoenix takes one last look in the mirror and starts to question his life decisions.
Larry pulls into the Applebee’s parking lot, putting the car in park fairly close to the restaurant. He turns to Phoenix, giving a shit-eating grin. “Well? You ready Nicky?”
Phoenix tries to resist rolling his eyes and fails. He sighs, getting out of the car. “I still don’t get why you’re so excited. You’re gonna lose, y’know.”
Larry isn’t too far behind him, shutting the car door. “Yeah, yeah, whatever. Believe what you want.” He perks up for a second, reaching into the little shirt pocket of his, and hands Phoenix something. “For you!”
Phoenix looks down at his hands. “Did you—you brought lube and a condom?”
Raising his hands in defense, Larry exclaims, “Hey, better safe than sorry, man! Just keep it on ya, okay?”
Phoenix inhales deeply, closing his eyes.
I can’t kill him. I wouldn’t have anybody defending me, and Trucy really doesn’t need to find out that her dad got arrested while she was away.
Phoenix shoves the packet of lube and condom in his pocket. It’s not like I’m gonna use it.
Larry gives him a pat on his shoulder. “Atta boy. C’mon, it’s showtime,” he says, practically skipping towards the restaurant doors.
Phoenix follows him, sighing again. Why did I agree to this?
The two of them enter the restaurant, Phoenix already spotting Edgeworth (who’s wearing a long sleeve shirt with a sweater vest; Phoenix really has to talk to him about what casual means) and Gumshoe at a table. Edgeworth seems to be glaring at the menu as if its existence is a personal affront to him, while Gumshoe is looking at the menu with a much different look on his face.
“Edgey! Gummy!” Larry says obnoxiously, walking towards the table, and Phoenix tries not to cringe. “The party has just begun!”
Edgeworth doesn’t even look up from the menu. “Based on the items on the menu, I’d believe it to be less of a party and more comparable to a funeral.”
“Aw, c’mon, Mr. Edgeworth!” Gumshoe pipes up. “This place is nicer than what I usually go to!”
Phoenix fights back a wince. I think Edgeworth needs to give him a raise if that’s true.
Edgeworth simply harrumphs, turning his head towards Larry and Phoenix, who are still standing. “I don’t understand why you would—” He stops abruptly, freezing. His eyes trail over Phoenix, mainly staring at his legs, before his gaze quickly runs back to his eyes. Edgeworth opens and closes his mouth, wide-eyed.
Huh. Interesting.
“What were you saying, Edgey?” Larry asks, sliding into the booth next to Gumshoe. Phoenix follows, sliding next to Edgeworth, who’s still staring at him.
“U-Uh.” Edgeworth stammers while Phoenix picks up a menu, acting natural. “Er—I simply—” Phoenix takes the time to turn to Edgeworth, tilting his head innocently. Edgeworth swiftly averts his gaze, clearing his throat. He picks up the menu again. “I simply don’t understand why this establishment was chosen for our outing amongst all other options we have,” he finally utters out, cheeks a light pink.
Phoenix shrugs, playing it as cool as he can. He browses the cocktail specials they have. “I just thought it would be different, y’know?” He turns his head towards Edgeworth and smiles.
Edgeworth blinks at him, opening his mouth to say something, but is interrupted as the server comes by.
“Hello, I’m Kat. I’ll be your server for today,” the waitress says, smiling at them. She looks at all of them, mouth quirking slightly as she sees Edgeworth. “Have you all been here before?”
“Me and my pal Nicky here have, but these two haven’t!” Larry says enthusiastically, gesturing to Gumshoe and Edgeworth.
Kat smiles knowingly. “I see. Well, can I start you boys off with anything to drink?”
They start ordering, Phoenix ordering some special cocktail they have for the season. Edgeworth just gets water.
Phoenix arches a brow at him, Edgeworth huffing and saying, “It’s simply the safest option for a restaurant such as this.”
He tries not to smile at how cute he finds it.
“So!” Larry starts once Kat goes off to get their drinks, “How are my favorite boys doin’ tonight?”
“Peachy.” Edgeworth says wryly.
Gumshoe starts talking about what he’s been up to lately, and Edgeworth crosses his arms, looking away.
Phoenix frowns, leaning in a bit to talk quietly to him. “Are you actually upset that we’re here?”
Edgeworth looks down, before sighing. “...No. However, it has been quite a bit since we’ve gone out. I was hoping for something a little more…sophisticated.”
He feels a pang of guilt. “Sorry.”
Edgeworth shakes his head. “Don’t be. I’m simply acting…picky as you would say.” There’s a determined glint in his eyes. “I will be taking you out again one of these days when I am not as busy.”
Phoenix’s lips twitch into a smile. “Is that a threat, Mr. Prosecutor?”
“Chief Prosecutor to you,” Edgeworth replies, something softer and even playful in his eyes. Phoenix is about to say something until he feels someone kick him.
“Ow—”
“Hey, Nicky, you should check your phone!” Larry says loudly. Edgeworth looks between the two of them with an arched brow.
“Is everything alright?” Edgeworth asks, looking concerned.
“Oh, totally! I’m just. Y’know…” Larry trails off, clearly trying to think of something on the spot. His face lights up. “Asking him about any bi tips!”
Edgeworth looks stunned. “Excuse me?”
“Yeah!” Larry frowns. “Did I not tell ya, Edgey? I came out to Nick a few weeks ago. I’m bi!”
Gumshoe is practically pouting. “‘Bye’? Where are you going, pal?”
Phoenix presses his lips into a thin line, trying not to laugh.
“Bisexual, Detective. Meaning to be attracted to two or more genders.” Edgeworth patiently explains, still looking a little surprised. “Thank you…for sharing. I’m quite happy you feel comfortable telling us, Larry.”
“Mhm! It’s something I discovered recently. I was talking to…” As Larry starts going into detail about how he realized his sexuality, Phoenix pulls out his phone.
Pain in the Butz [6:46 P.M.]: Nick! You gotta try harder than that! Really try your best to get in his pants, or it doesn’t count!
Phoenix glares at Larry, who’s still talking.
“Wow, pal,” Gumshoe says to Larry, looking as though he’s just had a revelation. “I thought everybody was like that.”
“Nope!” Larry says cheerfully, popping the ‘p.’
“Huh,” Gumshoe says, before his face lights up. “I guess I’m also bi, then!”
“Welcome to the club, Gumshoe.” Phoenix says, with a slight smile on his face. Even if the whole night is ridiculous, he’s glad that there was at least some importance out of it.
Edgeworth has a mildly amused expression on his face. “Quite the place for such revelations to be occurring.”
Kat then comes back with the drinks. “Here ya are!” She places the drinks down on the table. “Now, are you ready to order any apps or entrees?”
They order one at a time, Phoenix going first. “Yeah, first we’ll get an order of wings as an app, and then I’ll be having the quesadilla burger.”
Edgeworth gives him a look before turning to his own menu. “Ah, yes. I’ll be having the eight-ounce top sirloin, please.”
I guess now’s a good time as ever to start.
“Eight ounces, huh? You sure you can handle all that meat?” Phoenix says smoothly.
He just gets a confused look in return. “You’ve seen me handle more than that.”
Phoenix coughs. Guess he didn’t get what I meant…
Kat finishes taking their orders, and Phoenix hands her the menus. “I’ll get that started for you guys right away!”
“So, Gummy.” Larry leans a bit towards Gumshoe, shoulders touching with his. “You work out? You look like you work out.”
Gumshoe beams. “I do, pal! Here’s my routine…”
While Gumshoe talks, Phoenix starts to take a sip of his drink, darting the tip of his tongue out to it, all while his body is tilted towards Edgeworth. He nibbles at the straw, playing with it in between his lips, and when he glances up, wide gray eyes are looking at his mismatched ones.
Phoenix blinks at him innocently, continuing to be as indecent as possible with the straw.
“Uh, pal?” Gumshoe blinks at him, a funny look on his face. “You alright there?”
Phoenix startles a bit, forgetting that they had company, spilling some of his drink. “O-Oh, yeah. I’m fine.”
Whatever hold he had over Edgeworth seems to be gone as the man rolls his eyes. “Honestly. The drink goes in your mouth, Wright.”
“A lot of things can go into my mouth,” Phoenix says proudly. Edgeworth chokes on his drink.
“W-What are—”
“Alright, boys! Here are the wings. I made sure to bring some extra napkins for you.” Kat places the plate of wings down, winking at them.
“Hey, thanks! Nicky over here really loves to get in there. Loves getting all messy and everything.”
I’m going to kill him.
“Heh,” Phoenix laughs, only a little forced. He tries to go with it. “That’s me. Love getting dirty.” He shoots a wink at Edgeworth who just looks affronted.
Kat nods, eyebrows raised. “I see. Well, hope you enjoy!”
“Phoenix,” Edgeworth says quietly so only he can hear. “Are you alright? Your behavior is a bit…odd tonight.”
Uh oh. He’s catching on.
Phoenix shrugs, grinning. He wraps an arm around Edgeworth’s shoulder, mildly surprised that he doesn’t seem to freeze. Phoenix figures Edgeworth isn’t that into PDA, after all. “Odd? Nah.” He tilts his head towards Edgeworth. “I’m just enjoying your company.”
Edgeworth’s eyes seem to soften at that.
“Nick! You gonna get in on these wings, or what?” Larry asks, him and Gumshoe already digging in.
Phoenix looks down at the plate of mediocre-looking chicken wings. Truthfully, he is a bit hungry.
“Sure,” he drawls out, “why not?” He grabs a few, putting them on his plate. “You want some, Edgeworth?”
He raises an eyebrow. “No, thank you.”
Phoenix takes a bite. “Mmph,” he moans as loudly as he can without getting attention from the whole restaurant. “Mmm, so good.” He licks the sauce off his fingers, trying to give a good show.
They’re tolerable at best, but at least Larry won’t accuse me of not trying.
“Enjoying the wings, Wright? Me too! This is way better than noodles in a cup.” Gumshoe comments, barbecue sauce on his cheek.
Phoenix gives a happy hum, still licking the sauce off his fingertips. He doesn’t look at Edgeworth, but feels the man shift in his seat beside him.
“They’re from an Applebees,” he hears Edgeworth say incredulously. “Surely they can’t be that exquisite.”
Phoenix slows down on his licks before stopping completely. Welp. There goes another strike. I get closer and closer to that extra hundred bucks each time that happens, though.
Sure, maybe Phoenix wouldn’t mind getting a little frisky in public. Maybe there’s even a sort of thrill to it, even. And, hell, maybe he’d even be okay with getting freaky in an Applebees. But Edgeworth just has too much self-control, and that’s the truth of the situation.
He’s so lost in his thoughts that he doesn’t notice the entrees coming until they’re placed right in front of him.
“And here’s the quesadilla burger! I hope you all enjoy.”
The four of them say their thanks and start eating.
He turns slightly towards Edgeworth. “How’s your steak?”
“It’s…edible. Or so it seems,” he grumbles, staring at it with a displeased expression.
Phoenix places a hand on Edgeworth’s leg, causing the man to look at him. “Hey. Remind me to take you out somewhere nice next time, okay?”
Edgeworth’s gray eyes shimmer teasingly. “As if you could afford it.”
Before Phoenix can reply, he hears a WHOOPS! from Larry, and the next thing he knows, Larry’s fork is being flung across the floor.
Three pairs of eyes stare at Larry, who’s rubbing his neck sheepishly. “My bad! Guess I dropped my fork.” His eyes light up as if he had an idea. “Hey, Nick, mind grabbing it for me?”
He looks to the fork that’s in the middle of the walkway.
I’m seriously going to kill him one day.
Phoenix forces a smile. “Sure.” He gets up out of his seat, walks to the fork, and bends over slowly to pick it up.
He isn’t sure what he’s hoping for, really. Maybe Edgeworth to choke on his drink, or a plate crashing or something. Or maybe Edgeworth being consumed with so much lust that he darts out of the booth and comes to ravish him on the spot.
…Okay, maybe Phoenix is more into this idea than he originally thought.
But the point is, Edgeworth is clearly not. And that’s fine! It’s fine, really.
Anyways, nothing happens, like he expected. He picks up the fork and walks back to the table, handing it back to Larry, who’s staring at Edgeworth.
Phoenix turns his head at Edgeworth, who has his arms at his sides, hands clenched in fists, and he’s seemingly glaring at his steak.
Woah.
“Uh. Edgeworth? You okay there?”
“Marvelous.” He grits out, picking up his fork and knife again and stabbing into his steak with force.
Is he starting to get mad?
Phoenix stares a little longer at Edgeworth, concerned. Edgeworth simply continues aggressively cutting into his steak, paying Phoenix no mind.
Finally, he shrugs, and goes back to eating his burger.
The rest of the dinner is pretty uneventful since Gumshoe and Larry are doing most of the talking. They ended up ordering dessert already, Phoenix ordering a white chocolate lava cake for Specific Reasons. Other than that, Phoenix hadn’t really seen any opportunities to try to flirt with Edgeworth
Speaking of the man, Edgeworth has been pretty quiet, even for him, and Phoenix is starting to get more and more worried. What if he found out what Phoenix has been trying to do and got mad? Is he just upset that he’s in an Applebees? Maybe it’s a combination of both.
“—so I asked her out, and she was all,” Larry raises his voice into a falsetto, “If it’s Olive Garden again I’m breaking up with you,” he returns to his normal voice, “And I handed her the gift card, and she threw it in my face! Can you believe that?”
“But the unlimited breadsticks!” Gumshoe cries out.
“Exactly, Gummy. Exactly.” Larry sighs, slumping over the table. “I just want to take someone out to Olive Garden who’d appreciate it, y’know?”
Gumshoe pats Larry on the back. “Y’know, pal…I wouldn’t mind going to Olive Garden with ya.”
Larry raises his head, looking touched. “You’d do that for me?”
With a soft smile, Gumshoe says, “Of course, pal.”
Edgeworth leans a bit closer to Phoenix, whispering, “What on Earth is going on with those two?”
“I…have no idea.” The pair across from them are looking at each other, smiling gently.
Well, at least they’re having a good time??
Kat comes back to their table with their desserts. “Here ya are. Enjoy!”
After failing again and again with his flirtations, Phoenix only had one other trick up his sleeve. He takes one of the spoons in front of him and breaks open the lava cake, the white chocolate pouring out. He takes a bite, and it’s surprisingly good, drawing a noise out of him that he didn’t plan.
“Wanna try some?” He asks Edgeworth, who’s looking at him with an intense look in his eyes. As he waits for a response, he dips his finger into the white chocolate and slowly licks it off, glancing at Edgeworth.
It takes a moment for him to respond. “I’m quite alright,” he replies, glancing away. “My expectations aren’t high.”
Welp, there goes that.
What’s he even doing this for, anyways? He’s out with his partner—he should just try to enjoy it instead of winning some stupid bet.
Mentally throwing in the towel, Phoenix turns towards Edgeworth. “Come on,” he goads gently, “it’s actually pretty good. I think you’ll like it.” He takes a spoonful of the cake and raises it to Edgeworth’s lips.
Gray eyes roll, but there’s a slight twitch to Edgeworth’s lips. He sighs exasperatedly and leans in to take a bite. There’s surprise in those eyes as Edgeworth makes a small, delighted sound.
“Good?”
“I…admit, it is particularly scrumptious.”
Phoenix lets out a laugh. “God, you’re a dork.” He looks at Edgeworth and realizes how unfair it is. How unfair that the man can make his heart skip a beat in the middle of a shitty chain restaurant like this.
“Y’know, Miles,” Phoenix starts, Edgeworth’s attention on him immediately at the sound of his first name, “I hope I’ve been taking care of you. Treating you right.” He takes another spoonful of the cake, raising it to Edgeworth who’s currently looking at him with some intense but peculiar emotion. Edgeworth slowly opens his mouth, taking the bite. “I hope I’m being good for you,” Phoenix finishes, voice barely above a whisper.
Edgeworth simply looks at him and doesn’t say anything. Phoenix starts to feel a bit of dread. Was he coming on too strong? Did he say something wrong?
Edgeworth then raises a napkin to his lips and pats them, looking away from him. “Phoenix,” he says, tone dangerously neutral while looking ahead. “May I speak with you for a moment?”
Uh oh. I’ve done it now.
“Y-Yeah. Of course.” Phoenix gets up from the booth, letting Edgeworth move in front of him. Edgeworth starts walking forward, hand on Phoenix’s wrist, leading him somewhere.
They end up at the men’s bathroom.
Oh, God. Are we about to fight in the bathroom?
Edgeworth opens the door, practically dragging him inside. “Uh, Edgeworth? Did I—”
“No.” Edgeworth says sharply, hauling him into the biggest stall. He slams it shut and locks it behind him. “Do not start with me, Phoenix Wright.”
Phoenix stares at him, wide-eyed. “I—”
“You are unbelievable.” He starts walking towards Phoenix, backing him slowly towards the wall. “Impossible. Absolutely ridiculous and absurd.” Edgeworth pushes him up against the wall, Phoenix letting out an oof sound. “How dare you—how dare you make me feel such a way in a place like this?”
Phoenix blinks. “Wha—”
“First it was that preposterous piece of clothing, and then—and then the jokes and the double meanings, the damned chicken wings and you bending down in front of the entire restaurant, showing off what is mine.” Edgeworth practically growls out, nostrils flaring. “I had been able to ignore it. I was aware it would not be appropriate to do anything—and yet.” He grits out, gripping tightly onto Phoenix’s shoulders. “And yet.”
WHAT IS HAPPENING AND WHY DO I FIND IT HOT?
“You…You—” Edgeworth lets out a frustrated noise before leaning into Phoenix, kissing him hard. Phoenix makes a surprised noise that quickly turns into a moan as Edgeworth nips at his bottom lip. Edgeworth’s hands run downs his sides and over his thighs, and he stops abruptly.
“Wait,” Edgeworth says, slightly out of breath. He reaches into Phoenix’s pocket where—
Oh, right. That.
Phoenix smiles sheepishly. “Uh, I—”
“You little minx.” Edgeworth breathes out, pupils wide. “You planned this.” He stares at Phoenix for a long moment. “Is this…would this be alright, Phoenix?”
His jaw drops. “Here? Miles—” Phoenix’s words die in his throat as he really looks at Edgeworth. Desperate and wanting. Desperate and wanting for him.
And he isn’t the only one. Phoenix is already hard as a rock from the idea.
He swallows. “Yes. Please.”
Edgeworth squares his jaw and starts to fumble with his belt. “Turn around and take off your shorts.”
Phoenix gulps, doing as he’s told.
He hears the sound of the belt falling to the floor, and the next thing he knows, he feels hot breath ghosting upon his neck.
“Nghh…” He only jumps slightly when he feels Edgeworth’s hands over the back of his thighs. “Only you…only you would be the one to tantalize me this much,” Edgeworth says, tone softer than before. Edgeworth’s hand lifts the waistband of Phoenix’s boxers, pulling them down, exposing his ass to the cool air.
“Beautiful,” Edgeworth gasps out, massaging Phoenix’s ass. “Absolutely gorgeous. However, I’m afraid we don’t have time to prepare you to the full extent you may need.” His hands trail down to Phoenix’s thighs. “These, on the other hand…”
Phoenix feels his cock twitch at the idea. “Fuck, Miles, fuck my thighs. I’ll be so good for you, please.”
“Oh, you will be.” Edgeworth mutters—a promise. “Put your hands on the wall, dearest. I need to slick up your legs.”
He’ll never admit it, but Phoenix is currently internally thanking Larry for the lube and the condom.
He hears the sound of Edgeworth ripping the packet open, and then feels slicked up hands on his thighs. Phoenix shivers with anticipation.
“These beautiful, beautiful thighs of yours make me a fool…” Edgeworth rubs his lubed thighs, squeezing lightly. “Is this what you desired, Phoenix?” Phoenix hears the crinkling of the condom wrapper. “You wanted me to have my way with you in a place like this?” Edgeworth pushes on his thighs lightly, urging him to spread them apart.
“I…” Phoenix utters out, gasping lightly at the feel of Edgeworth’s cock between his legs. “Oh, fuck.”
“Nghh…Phoenix…” Edgeworth wraps his arm around his body and starts kissing at his neck. He starts thrusting lightly in between Phoenix’s legs, grazing his balls and causing him to shiver. “You twisted, vulgar man…Causing me—making me—do this.”
Edgeworth bites at Phoenix’s neck, causing him to keen. “Miles, God—”
“You irresistible, alluring, enticing man—ah, ah—you feel exquisite darling, absolutely brilliant. You’re being so good for me, Phoenix.”
A sound close to a whimper escapes him. “Miles, touch me—please, please, please—”
“Anything, dearest, anything—” He wraps a hand around Phoenix’s cock and starts stroking him in time with his thrusts. “I want you to come for me Phoenix, I want you to make a mess out of yourself, exactly like how you’ve made a mess of me—”
“Fuck, fuck—”
“Come for me, Phoenix, come all over the wall here, I want to see you lose control, come for me, come for me—”
Phoenix comes with a cry of Miles’s name, cum streaking over the wall. Edgeworth’s thrusts between his legs turn more frantic.
“Oh, oh, Phoenix—you’ve ruined me, ruined me—” Edgeworth’s hips stutter as he comes gasping Phoenix’s name.
Edgeworth continues to hold Phoenix’s body close as he lazily thrusts in the aftershocks, kissing messily at his neck. They’re both panting.
“Holy shit,” Phoenix says, staring at the mess he made.
“Indeed,” Edgeworth replies, face still buried in the crook of his neck. After a few more moments, Edgeworth stands straight, backing up from Phoenix. “Ah. I suppose we should, ah, clean up?”
Phoenix pulls up his boxers and then shorts, wincing at the wall. “Uh. Yeah. We definitely should.”
They clean up any of the mess in relative silence, Phoenix’s mind still reeling from everything.
I can’t believe Larry was right.
“Phoenix?”
He turns to Edgeworth, who has a tentative look on his face. “Yeah?”
“I hope…I, er…I hope I was not too…fervid, to say the least.” He avoids eye contact with Phoenix, fiddling with the sleeve of his long sleeve shirt.
“Oh, so you don’t usually fuck your partners in an Applebee’s?”
He gets a scowl in reply, and Phoenix laughs. “Look.” He places a hand on Edgeworth’s cheek. “That was one of the hottest things that ever happened to me, okay? Don’t worry about me not enjoying it, because I did enjoy it. A lot.”
Edgeworth stares at him, before a slight smile appears on his face. “Alright.” They exit the stall, and Phoenix thanks whatever gods that are watching over them that nobody else came into the bathroom this whole time. “I suppose we should go back to Detective Gumshoe and Larry, shouldn’t we?”
“Oof. Yeah, although it wouldn’t surprise me if they already left.”
The two of them exit the bathroom, going back to their table with no Larry or Gumshoe to be seen. Instead, there’s a post-it note on the table.
Hope it’s alright for you to cover the bill :) Gummy and I decided to head out. We got tired of waiting for you two :P
P.S. Nicky, I’ll be expecting that $100 bucks in the morning ;)
-Larry B.
“Phoenix,” Edgeworth says slowly. “Why do you owe Larry money?”
