Work Text:
In this age and time, where almost one hundred percent of seven billions people living in earth inherits the traits of simple, common people, it is hard to find one were-people— or borderline between human and animal that said to be just mere myth.
Not any common people know that many were-cubs are being orphaned as soon as they were born, caught for—what the government dubbed as— scientific purposes (which was why there is specific point in the abandonment law that stated for every sign of an abandonment were-cubs to be immediately reported to authorities)
They just know that the government would take care those abandoned were-cubs. That is it.
They would know nothing such as the experiment done by the said authorities to the poor were-cubs. The dark experiment that ended up killing almost a thousand (as of now) innocent creatures, ones whom do not even know what did they sinned of except for being born.
Lucky for Terano South, he was able to run after he had a hellish life as a guinea pig (even as a kid, a bear is a bear, after all). He then moved from his birthplace, ended up in Japan, lived his street-life, grew up, and able to make a name for himself as Rokuhara Tandai (Minato's #1 gang)'s leader. No matter if he had to keep the fact that he is a were-people hidden.
Though it made him has the tendencies to solve things through violence. It was okay. It is just his way of surviving. To stay alive. He always made sure to talk to himself of those things, especially in his juvenile life— where the stronger of a person he was, the bigger chances he got to stay alive. That solving things with violence is not wrong. That he did nothing wrong even if he were to punch a person's guts out.
Because no matter what, he had to survive.
By surviving, he meant that he knows to not hope anything such as meeting his own kind, less make they, whom only exist out of his imagination, his family, or pack.
Him meeting the were-snow leopard, Imaushi Wakasa of Black Dragon had been really just small coincidence— and he did not, not at all thought of being family with him. Especially when he was a bear (because bear and carnivores were not to mingle together, and almost every were-people know about this basic information).
But then one day, after he just all clear to get himself out of the juvenile, he stumbled upon a boy, a cat-cub, wandering around his turf. Looks like a lost cub.
He moved to take a closer look at the cub.
He was not wrong. It was really not just common people kid. It was a cub, one with bright blue eyes and soft fluffy black hair, looking at him with eyes sparkling.
Huh, looking at.. me..?
"Kuma-san!" He said, pointing his tiny finger at South. Recognizing South as a were-bear.
At the very moment, South was too stunned to even give the cub proper responses. He just stood there, examining the oh so innocent cub flailing his hands up and down in excitement. Walking closer to him without an ounce of fear.
"O-oof! I forget." Once they were facing each other, the cub calmed down a bit, "It is rude of me to point my finger at someone. I'm sorry, mister.." he swears he could see the cub's ear dropped.
That was new.
The way of how the cub approaches him makes he feels butterflies down in his stomach. Something bubbling and building inside him.
His instinct to protect. His instinct as were-bear to protect family. One thing that he could not dare to hope.
He reached out his hand, instinctively, to ruffle the cub's hair. "No, it's okay." He said as he watched the cub smiled cutely. He sniffed as the cub released soft pheromone, meaning that the cub is feeling alright with South closing the distance between them.
"So, you lost or something, cub?" South crouched himself down, leveling himself to the cub's eyes.
The cub shook his head, "Shin-nii-san asks me to wait here because he has something to do."
Somehow the name sounds familiar.
He then asked, "Who is—"
"Michi! Did you wait for long? The one that I waited for has yet to come so—!"
Before he even finished asking, the familiar voice came closer. He looked up only to find that,
The one and only charismatic leader of Black Dragon, named Sano Shinichiro, is behind the cub. The cub that was supposed to be his family.
"Shin-nii-san! Nope! I didn't wait at all because I met Mr. Bear, here! He is so big and cool and supeeeer cool! Let's invite him to dine with us!"
He exchanged glances with Sano Shinichiro before,
"South Terano. Fancy meeting you here and while I was waiting for you on your castle."
He hissed, "Sano. I don't know that you kept a cat cub inside your house."
...
.. He got his main focus wrong.
"You want a peace treaty between Black Dragon and Rokuhara Tandai? Fine. I'll accept. Not on one condition, though."
"What do you need?"
South smirked, "For Hanagaki Takemichi to visit Minato at least twice a week."
"..."
"..."
"Okay! I'm happy that I'm able to play with Mr. Bear— oops, I mean, South-onii-san, too!"
"Michi, what!?"
"Thank you, Takemichi. The pleasure is mine, by all means."
