Work Text:
Midoriya laid there in a daze. His mind was slow to comprehend what happened. Everything was in ruins. Building were either a pile of ruble or the walls on one side were gone. It looked like a bomb went off. Then his mind finally caught up and he remembered. It wasn’t a bomb per say. It was a villain that could touch things that could become bombs.
He tried to sit up, but gasped and laid back down.
An ache
So deep
That I
Can hardly breathe
Looking down he saw blood gushing from his stomach. Now that he knows that there is wound, he could feel something, probably a rod or something deep in his gut, pinning him to the ground. The pain started to increase now that he knew that he was hurt, but he tried to push through it. It can’t be that bad. He has been hurt before and it probably looks worse than it was. Right?
This pain
Can't be imagined
It seemed like hours before he heard footsteps. Midoriya turned his head, trying not to move to much, to see who it was. “Help.” He tried to say, but his voice was just a whisper.
It took forever before the footsteps were even close to him and he could tell the moment that he was spotted. He heard whoever it was run in his direction and he couldn’t help but feel relief. He looked to the side and saw Bakugou running toward him.
“Deku!” Bakugou yelled as he got closer. Midoriya could see the worry in his friend’s face. “What happen…” he stared to say before he really saw what condition Midoriya was in. His face paled and he knelt down beside the injured boy. Bakugou reached into his pants and took out his phone, sending an alert to the pro heroes for help. “Help is on its way ok, nerd?”
Midoriya smiled a little and said in a small voice, “Ok, Kachan.” He grimaced in pain as breathed in a little to deeply. This was definitely starting to feel really bad.
Will it ever heal?
Ooh... ooh...
“Come on! Where are they?” Bakugou growls as he puts pressure on his friends wound. It has been almost twenty minutes since he was found and no one else has shown up.
“They are probably spread to thin from helping the civilians.” Midoriya said, trying to keep the black dots that were dancing across his vision at bay. His head was starting to get light headed and it was getting harder to think. It was starting to get harder to breath too. Every time he inhaled there was a rattling sound that should not be there even though it was getting worse.
It finally occurred to Midoriya that he could die here. The longer they waited the closer to death he got. And that terrified him. He didn’t want to die. He didn’t want to leave his mom or his friends. He didn’t want to leave Bakugou or All Might. The last name made him stop. Oh no, All Might. One for All. It couldn’t die with him. He couldn’t let that legacy die. Not with him.
“Kachan.” He wheezed out.
“Save your strength. The heroes should be here. They will take care of you.” Bakugou interrupted him, but he sounded scared. He knew that his friend was in bad shape. He could hear the raddling in his lungs, could feel the blood flowing between his fingers.
“Just listen to me for once will you.” Midoriya said. “I need you to take One for All.” Bakugou’s mouth dropped open.
“No. No way. You will need it later when you are healed. You aren’t dying to day.”
“I don’t plan on dying. It’s just in case. If-When I get through this you can give it back to me. It will make me feel better, just in case the worst does happen.” He slowly lifted his arm and tried to grab a piece of his hair. It was so hard to do that. It took all of his concentration to do it. He held it out to his friend. The friend that he believed to be worthy of this power. The power of their hero.
Bakugou looked down at his hands and looked back to the boy. Reluctantly he raises one hand from Midoriya’s stomach and reaches for the strand of hair that held One for All.
Your hand
So small
Held a strand of my hair
So strong
All I could do
Was keep believing
Was that enough?
As Bakugou put the piece of hair in his mouth, Midoriya looked around. The rubble kept on shifting making it seem as if someone was coming.
Is anyone there?
The dark spots were slowly starting to cover his vision.
I wanna scream
This can’t be happening. He was losing consciousness and he knew that if he fell asleep, he would never wake up.
Is this a dream?
Come on you have to fight. He kept telling himself.
How could this happen,
Happen to me?
He wants to be a hero. He wants to achieve his dream and make his mentor proud. He wants to save people and keep living with his friends and his mom.
This isn't fair
This nightmare
This kind of torture
I just can't bear
He wants his mom and other friends here. Maybe it would be easier to hold on, if he could just see them all.
I want you here
I want you here
Ooh... ooh...
Bakugou almost gagged on the hair. “There you happy nerd.” He says then looks at his friend. He freezes. His eyes were closed, but it was more he was squeezing them shut then him falling asleep. “Come on, Deku, hold on for a while longer.”
Bakugou knew that Midoriya was a fighter. He knew that was way to stubborn for his own good. He knew that his friend was struggling to stay awake.
“Come on. You have fought so hard to get to where you are to be a hero. Don’t give up now.”
I waited so long
For you to come
Then you were here
And now you're gone
Bakugou could barely see Midoriya’s chest move. If he wasn’t looking at him so hard, he would have thought that he had stopped breathing all together.
I was not prepared
For you to leave me
Oh, this is misery
Bakugou looked around desperately. Someone had to be coming. His friend needed help. “HELP! SOMEONE, COME ON!” he screamed in desperation. He looked down and saw Midoriya take in a shallow, wet breath.
Are you still there?
“Hang on, you need to hang on.”
I wanna scream
Is this a dream?
Both boys thought.
How could this happen,
Happen to me?
I don’t want to lose my friend that I just got back. Bakugou thought.
I don’t want to leave everyone behind. Midoriya thought.
This isn't fair
This nightmare
This kind of torture
I just can't bear
I want you here
Bakugou thought as he looked at his friend struggle to breath.
I want you here
Midoriya thought of his mom, mentor and friends.
God help me,
Bakugou thought in desperation. Let me save him.
God help me,
Midoriya thought as all he could see was black and his breath leave his lungs.
God help me
Breathe
One boy yelled while the other failed to will his body into the motion.
I wanna scream
Is this a dream?
How could this happen,
Happen to me?
Bakugou yelled. “COME ON, BREATHE.”
This isn't fair
“DON’T LEAVE US.”
This nightmare
“DON’T LEAVE ME.”
This kind of torture
I just can't bear
“I JUST GOT YOU BACK!”
I want you here
I want you here
Ooh... ooh...
Tears streamed down Bakugou’s face as he looked at the pale face of his childhood friend.
An ache
So deep
That I
Can hardly breathe
“IZUKU!” Bakugou yelled just as Aizawa and the rest of their friends ran around the corner, far to late.
