Summary
Shane has never been religious. But he found himself praying, to something, to anything, to the wind that can anchor every wish he had for Ilya—to keep him safe, to keep him healthy, to make him happy again.
He thinks of Ilya’s cross on his necklace, and thinks of his Mom.
Is he going to meet her now? Will he get the chance to tell her how wonderful her son grew up to be? Will he be able to tell her that he tried to love him for the both of them the best way he knew how?
Or: what if it's Shane's plane that almost crashed?

Summary
Shane can’t think of a better way to wake up than this:
The sun is casting rays from the big window, spilling all over their white bedsheets, blanketing them in luminosity and warmth. The big comforter is haphazardly thrown around them, half of it on the floor, and there is a glow, a light that he can’t even begin to explain, everywhere.
If he raises his head just slightly from the warmth of Ilya’s—his husband’s—back he can see the river, and make out the blue sky.
He chooses not to raise his head and instead bury the growing smile on his face to Ilya’s back. His husband.
Or: their first morning as husbands spent dancing to an old Japanese song and saying vows in Russian.

For a moment, he wonders with his eyes open fixating on the mole under Eddie’s left eye as he’s peaceful and serene and near that if Buck were to reach out and touch him—would he be considered holy?

Would this be a prayer?
Would this be talking to God asking him to do something divine?
Or: Buck realises his feelings for Eddie as Eddie learns to bake, shaves his moustache off, tries to bring his son back home and realises he’s gay all this time.

Summary
The truth is Evan Buckley can recognise Eddie Diaz by his breath alone.
Buck did not spend six years of his life attached to Eddie like a lost little dog without burning knowledge in the crooks of his ribcage, hurting every time he so much as breathes. Buck did not spend those six years expecting he’d ever have a life not following him around, not hearing his voice, not seeing his smile for every damn day of his life.
He did not expect he’d have a life void of Eddie Diaz.
But it has been three years.
Three fucking years.
Or: Buck and Eddie see each other at a grocery store three years after Eddie decided to stay in Texas.

Look, it’s just—I’m just trying to make sense of this, of all of my feelings. I’m just looking at the past thirty years with a different lens, and some of it makes more sense now. Some still don’t, and maybe those are truly lost pieces I won’t ever understand, but a whole chunk of it—it makes sense.
Which part am I?
What—
Which part do I fall into? The parts that make more sense now, or am I one of the lost pieces you won’t ever understand?
Or: Buck and Eddie finally put words to their feelings. Until they don’t. Again.
