No one is confident enough to call it a person. It's an amorphous patch of dark against light, but no one can quite trace it to a source. No one can quite bring themself to try.
It lurks behind him, just out of view. Whenever Red Hood turns around, the shadow vanishes. It never lingers for him to see, but he knows about it. It's impossible for him not to know about it.
He's confronted it many times.
"Really, Jason," Tim says, mouth quirked in a little smirk that makes him infinitely more punchable than usual. "What need do I have to stalk you from the shadows? I can stalk you from the light just fine.""

"What?" Jason asked.
He had heard of Montauk before, of course; Percy had told him about the yearly trips he took there one night when they were both patrolling the Argo. Even so, the word sounded foreign to him. Although the dust from the war had cleared, that did not mean Jason had time for leisure.
"Montauk," Percy repeated. He crossed his arms, though his friendly smile still danced across his lips. "For a week. With me, my mom, Paul, and Estelle. We could swim in the ocean, and get ice cream on the boardwalk, and watch movies late at night. The cabin we got this year is nicer than the usual one—no broken AC or spiders in the sheets, promise. It'll be fun!"
"No spiders in the sheets?" Jason asked, his lip curling in his own wry smile. "Then what's the point in going?"
