Foggy was at Matt’s side in an instant, hugging him carefully to not cause him any more pain. Matt clung weakly to him while he cried. Foggy didn’t need to ask what Matt couldn’t remember, because the answer clearly was anything. It didn’t seem like he was just dazed from the drugs, but had some sort of amnesia.
“We’re in a relationship,” Foggy lied, with a sad smile Matt thankfully couldn’t see and who was too distressed to detect the lie at the moment.

Matt thinks he would rather that his lungs were burning.
Any kind of torture over this. He is familiar with the kinds, is acutely aware of the effects, the way pain drags everything out like little bodies laid bare, exposed. The prolonged is easier, the knowing of everything, the temporary a kind of hairtrigger to his brain that tells him the truth of what an intermittent torture means, what Stick taught him. It’s better than prolonged. The not knowing is torture itself. The brain can hurt the body just as much as any man, which is why one must control it. Wrangle everything under control. Become a body that takes things in and does not let go.
