Summary

Summary
In a world obsessed with killing and dying, Seiko is mostly concerned with chasing off her boredom. The Academy wasn’t exactly intellectually stimulating, but dying in the second shinobi war sounded like a long walk off a short pier. Everyone is always so stressed about avoiding attention, or min-maxing skills in situations like this.
Seiko is of the opinion that those people need to chill the hell out. Maybe play a little shogi. Death comes for them all anyways. Better to enjoy this all while it lasts.

Summary
A modern man wakes up in a cart with his hands bound, and instantly recognises both his surroundings and the fact that, given where he's seated, he's due to embark on a wildly dangerous adventure in just a few short minutes.
Given he has even less combat knowledge than this world's average teenager probably would, this could prove hazardous to his health.
A self-insert fic in which the author overthinks magic, the Thu'um, and how best to translate a video game world into something not constrained by levels and systems. Canon compliance will be attempted, but only to the extent that the author actually knows it (which is not much).
Update: between posting chapters 10 and 11, the author has had a trans realisation. This will also happen to the self-insert, it has been decided.

He smiles for Lucanis and it’s so good to see that Lucanis’ knees grow watery beneath his weight, threatening to give out entirely. He could weep for relief at the sight. That near-need to collapse morphs quickly into something else as Lucanis’ leg muscles twitch, convulsing with a sudden urge to run toward Emmrich, a jerky start and stop motion, a single, stumbling step. His heart leaps and Lucanis suddenly can’t breathe.

Nick always sat up the night after Nate had to go away for a while. Not pining, no ma'am, not at all. Just dying, instead. Love could kill you. The flower disease. Ellie hadn't thought Nick would be so stupid. But in hindsight, she didn't know why not.
Except that Nick is a synth. Synths can love just the same, but they can't quite die of it. Not Gen-2s. And maybe there's still a chance for a happy ending.
