    “That’s what I said! I asked him three times if it was some kind of prank, I reminded him about our recording for content rules, everything. Says he’s genuinely here to report something that happened to him.”

    Shane’s brows furrow. The institute was well known enough that people in the general area felt free to whisper and speculate about it, a couple of their scholars had published in some bigger journals, but they had no involvement with the pop culture side of the paranormal community. So, how the hell did YouTube douchebag Ilya Rozanov hear about them? And what could he possibly have to say that he’d prefer to go in their archives instead of on screen for his millions of fans?

    The forest noise swells around him in a great gust of birdsong and tree branch rustling, as if the woods are huffing a laugh at him under their breath. Shane still doesn’t believe in fairytales or spirits, but he’s starting to think that maybe there is a personality to this place. He stops in his tracks at the thought.

    “I’m fucking losing it,” he whispers to himself. “That has to be what this is.”
