“What are you doing here?” the girl—mermaid, Andrea’s mind supplies unhelpfully—hisses, moving towards Andrea and out from under the dock. She moves through the water like she’s one with it, smooth and sure. A silver tail taps the water before she submerges herself completely, coming back up to the surface, water dripping down her face and neck and down her bare chest. Andrea doesn’t let her eyes linger, not without consent, and moves her focus back up to her face.

It’s fancy in the way kids have tea parties with their stuffies and have the time of their lives doing so, but the slight fall of Jean’s face says that it didn’t land that way. Cursing himself in his mind, Jeremy stands up, and reaches down for Jean to grab his hand. He does, and Jeremy pulls him up so they’re both standing. Like this, Jeremy has to look up at Jean, and he finds it charming in its own way. “I didn’t mean for that to sound arrogant,” he admits.

In a way, Lo’ak feels relieved. His dad finally spoke the words he’s been waiting to hear since Neteyam bled out on a rock while war raged around them. He finally spoke the truth. It was Lo’ak’s fault that Neteyam died and his father has finally admitted it.
OR, Jake is the one who finds Lo'ak on the beach during THAT scene.

The room is silent for a moment. I can see her shaking as she waits for me to respond.
“Okay! Thank you for telling me,” I said, calmly. I was a bit out of my depth here. I’ve had queer kids before, of course, but having one come out to me like this was a new experience.
She– he blinks at me, clearly surprised at my anticlimactic reaction. Should I have been more surprised? Enthusiastic? I don’t know how to respond in this situation. I didn’t want to freak him out by freaking out, but what if that was what he wanted? This has got to be a big deal for him. Do I seem uninterested? Crap!
