Summary
With HYDRA disbanded, Rumlow is on the run, and he's taken the Winter Soldier with him. The Avengers are trying to track them down, while Bucky's brainwashed mind struggles to remember which side it's on.
When Bucky realizes Steve's life is at stake, he begins protecting him the only way he knows how - by disobeying his handler. Unfortunately, Brock Rumlow has no tolerance for noncompliance. He will do anything and everything to the Winter Soldier that it takes to remind it of its place at his feet.

The Soldier slid his eyes to Rumlow gratefully. He felt his trembling arms relax as he met that familiar expression of patient sympathy.
"I'm sorry, babe," said Rumlow, with a sad half-smile. "You know I have to do this."
The Soldier nodded once, steadily. He took in a huge breath, and silently took off his shirt. The blood Rumlow was about to draw would almost be a relief - liquid penance for the Soldier's inadequacy.
He was just lucky that Rumlow still cared about him enough to be honest with him about what a piece of shit he was.
