The funny thing about the whole thing is that Luca really sees none of it coming.
Because, yes, maybe he did have a tiny, very little crush on Ilya Rozanov growing up. And sure, maybe he did have his poster hanging up next to his bed. And okay, fine, maybe there had been a time in his life where he watched every single Raiders game with a hyperfocus on a certain player, and then secretly ventured onto his Tumblr feed after to watch and rewatch his favorite gifs from the game.

For the next two years of radio silence, Ilya grapples with the ghost of a relationship that could never be but almost was, wondering what he’d done wrong, yes—but mostly just coming to terms with the fact that his worry fits best by another name; one that neither of them can afford to call it.
In 2017, Shane returns to reclaim his position on the ice opposite Ilya, but things are different now. Ilya worries that there's someone else, and there is.
