Shane’s eyes do snap open at that. He can’t focus on Rozanov either, but he tries really hard. “What the fuck?” They did not have THAT kind of relationship. In fact, the last time he’d seen Rozanov, the man had fucked him silly then practically kicked him out of his hotel room without so much as a thank you or a kiss.
What the fuck was this love shit?
The man’s shoulders slump and he sits back in his chair. “Oh, Shane.” He sounds so disappointed. “The doctor said—I thought when you woke up again—”

They say most accidents happen at home. Shane has a catastrophic one in his parents' garage and loses 9 years of his memories. The last thing he can fully remember being in the elevator and almost sending several text messages after an evening with Rozanov in a hotel suite. All Shane knows is that Rozanov and his parents are in one place, and that's his biggest nightmare.

There were, maybe, worse places than Ottawa. Troy wouldn't know. Ottawa seemed pretty high on the list of shit places to be. It was clearly intended as retaliation for his outburst.
The list of good things about Ottawa could be counted on one hand. The Mediterranean place near the hotel the Guardians tended to stay at was spectacular. Troy always hoped there was enough time he could stow away and scarf down some hummus. The locker rooms had stalls that were just an inch or two wider than the ones at other stadiums, and that meant both his shoulder pads and knee pads could be hung up in a row instead of staggered. They were an easy win.
And Harris lived there.

Ilya had downplayed it as much as he could, and Shane hadn’t been there; he’d heard the fatigue and he’d seen Ilya’s tired smile, but he hadn’t felt the way Ilya’s hands were cold the entire time he was there, hadn’t seen through the screen the way Ilya dropped eight pounds in three weeks, hadn’t kept time when there were twenty hours in Ilya’s day instead of something closer to sixteen. Or, on the flip side, for the week or two after, when there had been approximately ten conscious hours in a day.
It was one thing to see something. It was another to feel it in your hands.
Ilya and Shane are so, so happy for their first year married. They’re playing in Ottawa together, they’re fucking winning, they’re together and out.
So now, after a year, Ilya should be fine. He should be great. He should not be flinching at small noises or nearly punching people off the clock or feeling like he’s drowning whenever he’s not on the ice.
