Summary
В глухой деревне на самом краю мира совершено ритуальное убийство – ужасающее событие, ведь ни великий Прародитель, ни Незримая с изнанки не принимают кровавых жертв. Из главного города присылают отряд ищеек, стражей порядка, — им приказано найти и покарать убийцу, что осквернил имена божеств подношением с особой жестокостью.
Жители деревни с нетерпением ждут правосудия, но ещё больше желают, чтобы с видного места наконец убрали окоченелый труп. Сильнее всех того хочет Варёнка, невзрачная подавальщица в местной таверне, которую запах крови преследует и буквально сводит с ума. Вот только с приездом сыщиков жизнь Варёнки только ухудшится – ведь Гярзу, ищейка из специального отряда Карающего Прута, затмевает для неё весь мир ароматом пышущей, горячей жизни.
Пока Гярзу и сыщики идут по следу, Варёнка противится зову крови – и не сдерживается, всё же пробуя её на вкус...

Someone rushed past them and Alhaitham stumbled back a step uncertainly. Kaveh shot him a look; Alhaihtam seemed way too pale under the grill in the sky. His skin looked clammy and dry, so unlike Kaveh's face covered in a thin layer of sweat.
Alhaitham blinked sluggishly and shook his head. "Then… it's the bazaar, right? I think it's that way."
Kaveh followed behind him, thoughts laced with worry. Alhaitham's steps were in a slightly wrong rhythm; each one seeming like a fight to get his feet off the ground.
Kaveh didn't check the weather forecast - now they're stuck in Port Ormos during the biggest heatwave of the century.

“Hm,” Alhaitham says, his eyes never leaving the book. “If someone saw the way you’re acting, they would not think so.”

Great. A week until Kaveh’s pre-cycle, and Alhaitham is suggesting that Kaveh try… what? Cuddling?
It's already frustrating enough to present as an enigma, but Kaveh's asexuality means he tends to suffer through his cycles alone and uncomfortable. When Alhaitham finds a study suggesting cuddling could help with Kaveh's upcoming cycle, it causes old feelings to surface and has Kaveh realizing Alhaitham might enjoy his company more than he previously thought.
