“I thought you liked strawberries,” Kyouji says, watching as Satomi shifts the cold can from hand to hand, condensation clinging to his fingers.
“This kind of stuff is too sweet for me,” Satomi says. “Plus, this is just strawberry flavored.”
“Really? Should I go back to coffee next time?”
“I’m good.” He has to laugh a little bit at Satomi’s grimace. It’s cute, watching him try to act all adult, only for his childishness to inevitably shine through.

“Do you want to go to a hotel once we’re done?” Satomi had asked him in his usual dry, direct manner. It had been funny, in a way, how there’d been absolutely nothing coy about it. Somehow, it had matched the feeling of the restaurant they’d chosen for dinner. Fluorescent lights, decor 10 years out of date, laminated menus. The opposite of sexy.
Kyouji had finished chewing and answered: “Sure.”

“Why are you awake,” Daniel says, croaks, still trying to swallow down the sip of water that had caught in his throat.
Rashid laughs, low, and the sound ricochets through the room and straight into the cavern of Daniel’s skull. “You’ve stolen my line, Mr. Molloy.”

A remix of the middle of pickedaxe's Tether.
There was an article Satomi read once, back when Masami was in his bouldering phase and had pointedly never invited his homebody younger brother along to his climbing gym. Something about how mountain climbers eventually stopped being afraid of falling. Their bodies just got tired of the adrenaline and quit producing it, and after that they could hang off a cliff face the way other people hung laundry. The downside, the article said, was that they also lost the ability to tell when they were actually about to die.
Satomi, in the same bed as Kyouji.
