Gift giving is a way to declare to somebody that you want to conjunx them on Cybertron. It varies between cities, but the general consensus is the same.
Breakdown receives such a gift and is elated at first; at least until he finds out who sent it to him.
He forgot to check if gift giving meant something else in different traditions.

Including, a deadly dark energon powered war machine, that can be controlled at his own will.
TLDR; Starscream is used as the experiment dummy instead of Cliffjumper, as that raggedy mech got away! But hey, the seeker makes for a really good Second in Command when you can bend him to your every will.

Summary
Metal Sonic, Dr Robotnik’s greatest creation, built to perfectly replicate and surpass his organic counterpart, Sonic the Hedgehog. Has it actually succeeded in its task? Well, no. Losses upon losses have piled up upon the robot.
Until it takes one loss too hard, waking up in an absence of those who it had considered to be constants in its existence.
No Eggman.
No Sonic.
How much will it discover about itself without the presence of either subjects who’ve had the most impact on it? How much could it grow without those two drives pushing it from behind leading to its every move? How much would it even want to change in the first place?
Metal Sonic certainly had no clue… But maybe soon, it’d find out the answers to those questions itself.
