He stands alone, and all else seems so very, very far away. Voices, footsteps, every single noise seems to blend into one, a cacophony of sound. Blood drops from his fingers, onto the already stained planks of the Hanged Man. Drop, and red petals bloom wide. There are people moving around him, he knows, and doesn’t react when one bumps into him, apologizes. It’s as if he’s watching from behind, a ghost of himself. Separate from his body, from all that tethers, until she gently places touch at his arm. “Fenris,” she says. He turns his head, slightly, white wisps of hair crossing his forehead. His gaze remains fixed on the floor. “What were you thinking of doing?”

Summary
The band of surprisingly nimble-fingered drunkards behind them apparently got their act together, and decided to start their portion of the evening with a long, raspy bellow. It took about two lines for every drunk Fereldan in the room to recognize the old tune — a naughty little ditty about all the different ways Ferelden could think to tell its Orlesian oppressors to go suck eggs. Hawke sang along, at the start. The first time she tripped up on the words, she blamed the booze. The second, though … it dawned on her that some of the words were simply different from what she’d learned in Lothering.
Funny, how quickly a room full of people could start to feel like the loneliest place on the continent. After all, there was a chance that she was the only one left who remembered that southern song at all.

Fenris leans against a bedpost and regards her smugly. “Sed tu non intellegis.” At Orana’s bell-like laugh, he shoots her a smile, and Hawke wonders again whether he truly doesn’t realize how charming he is.
She hurls a pillow at him. It hurts, but it’s worth it--Fenris lets it hit him square in the face, and just blinks down at her afterward. “So teach me,” she snaps. It’s a gamble, but his eyes flicker in surprise. She guessed right.

“It’s my natural right,” Harry says dutifully.
“Brilliant boy,” Remus says, which makes Harry grin that crazy James grin, the one with too many teeth, the one that used to get Remus’s heart dancing in his chest and some sort of half-baked alibi stirring in his head. “Sirius is right, you know. You’re allowed to be wrong, sometimes. We’re all wrong sometimes. Except me. I’ve never been wrong in my life.”
And Remus supposes that right there is the straw on the camel et cetera et cetera, because there’s a knock on the front door, two syllables, kar-ma.
or, the gnomes have an ultimatum, remus has angina, and what the three stooges lack in finesse they make up for in rubber glove game. they also have muffins, but that’s unrelated.

By the time it’s dark, there’s a fire crackling before them. The tent is set up. There are two chairs propped up by the fire. They have cooked and eaten dinner, and they are sitting in silence. It reminds Sirius of the dinners at home after he got sorted into Gryffindor, or after his mother found the letters from his friends, or lately, whenever he dares to show his face around the house at all. What lives in that space isn’t actually silence. Silence is absence. This thing that hangs between him and his mother, now between him and Remus, is the presence of something suffocating and cutting. It doesn’t serve as a placeholder for noise, it serves as a punishment. It cleaves him to the bone, flays him until he wants to cry. The soft, knotting feeling in his chest he feels when he wants to let tears out but can’t is rising in him. Sirius doesn’t know how to kill it except to hiss, “Well if you’re mad at me just fucking say so.”
