“I’m fine.” Whitaker’s mouth turns downward. “I just – just didn’t really think you were coming back.”
The scoop slips out of Robby’s slackening grip and bounces off the counter, coffee grounds spilling everywhere. “Fuck,” he curses shakily, casts around for a cloth, a paper towel, anything to try and clean up the mess. Anything to give him an excuse not to look Whitaker in the face.
“Sorry,” Whitaker says, unhappily, and Robby has to glance up after all. “Sorry,” Whitaker says again, “I shouldn’t have – “
“I wasn’t sure I was going to come back either,” Robby says, feels himself trembling with the weight of the confession, and Whitaker’s shoulders drop even lower than they already are.

“A bath sure would be lovely,” Tanjiro sighs wistfully, and Inosuke curiously studies him from the side. He doesn’t understand why Tanjiro always says things like that but then acts like he has to refrain. The longing in his eyes is easy to recognize, but somehow, he never allows himself to just take what he wants, even when it’s right in front of him.
It seems like a terrible affliction to deal with, and luckily one Inosuke doesn’t suffer from. “That’s what I was about to say,” he proclaims, puffing up his chest. “You are not entirely stupid, Gonpachiro.”

The title of the series is a silly pun that I couldn't resist using; but I did also like the idea that Rosie's ability to hold the Hundredth together, to hold people together, is a form of riveting, not unlike the riveters fixing actual planes. And, well, also Rosie is just that riveting.
All the characters in this series are the fictionalized versions appearing in "Masters of the Air," not the actual real-life people these characters are based on.

It felt like an old memory, a spirit-story his grandfather would tell him, clever tricksters making deals with the afterlife guardians. Or maybe the war stories Mama used to tell, brave and daring heroes up against impossible odds.
