She focused her vision enough to count the number of steps in the stairs below her. Twelve more. I can do this. Whatever it takes. Her breath was an audible rasp as she descended, palm gripped for dear life on the railing. There were people looking at her as she muttered expletives and encouragement to herself in turn, but that was fine. She’d never see any of these people again.
Someone, an upstanding citizen, a kind stranger, opened the door for her at the entrance. The wind had picked up, invigorating her senses, chilling the sweat on the back of her neck. Sherry’s Maserati was parked close, but all Grace could see was a black coupe-style SUV blocking the curb in front.
A Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, to be precise.
Grace has an unpleasant medical experience. Her Gen-X boyfriend takes the wheel.

Slowly, deliberately, he stepped off the ladder with that little lopsided smile on his face. God, she hated how much she loved that smile. “Yeah, well,” he intoned, dropping the banana peel in the waste paper basket. That wasn’t where it belonged. Food didn’t go in there and he knew it too. “Let’s pray I can find a spare 9-volt.”
Grace loves working from home, but not when her husband is being a cringy Gen-X man.

Grace considered if maybe they should’ve just stayed home and waited for Tron: Ares to stream on Disney+ because, as it turned out, she was wildly unprepared for the whole theater experience with Leon. The clarity it brought to their age difference—high definition, 4K laser projected, clear and undeniable—was a hard pill to swallow.
